A Sebastian River Middle School student died Friday afternoon after collapsing suddenly on the soccer field.
The student, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was in physical education class when he collapsed, said Indian River County School District Communications Specialist Patty Vasquez. P.E. class is required of all middle school students unless a child has a doctor's note excusing him from class.

Vasquez said the school had no indication the child was not to take P.E. class.
The cause of the boy's death is still unknown. Psychologists were brought to the school to help other students.

How sad. I haven't seen it on the Orlando news, it will probably hit the 11:00, but I"ll be :faint: by then.

His parents will be in my prayers.

How sad. Prayers for his family and the students.

How devastating for that family. I can't even begin to imagine...:(

How sad, very sad. My heart breaks for his family. They'll be in my prayers.

I have 2 middle schoolers. This news is too shocking to me. I can't bear the thought.

I just keep thinking about it.

My DH and I were just talking about kids getting tested for medical conditions. The local hospital had a huge event here last weekend for 13-18 year olds. They gave them all sorts of heart tests for free to prevent this type of thing from happening.

I can't imagine. My son's friend died when they were in first grade and he still thinks about it.

:guilty:
