My Dear Husband is in the Oregon Army National Guard. Ever since 9/11 we have known there was a possibility he would be called up for duty. He has been in the military since he graduated from high school- first in the USMC reserves based out of San Francisco, CA and when he moved to Oregon in 1993 he switched to the Guard. So, he's getting close to 20 years in the military. I'm very proud of him. He also has his college education and is a professional investigator for a large school district here in Portland. (Trying to bust some military stereotypes out there).

He came home last night from a Nat'l Guard meeting and he tossed a desert camoflouge water pack onto my lap and said this was issued to me. I didn't get it at first (we knew he was on the list for Afghanistan fall of 2005) but then he said, "They called me up for Iraq. I'm scheduled to go June 15th." I was stunned. He had told me something about how they wre short of men for the next tour, and they were looking for people with his specialty, but he said a couple of weeks ago that the chances were maybe 20%. So we went on with our lives and I didn't think about it.

I'm stunned. I have two small boys- 6 and almost 3. They sure love their daddy. My parents and my in-laws still live in California, so I don't have family around me. I have several good friends though. My parents bought their retirement home up here last fall...maybe they will be able to retire early, I don't know.

Just please keep me and my family in your thoughts. I will keep ya posted.

Thanks so much.

That must have been quite a shock for you. You can be sure that your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Come visit us often if you need to talk.

I'm so sorry he will be away from you and the boys. I thank god for men like your DH everyday::yes:: Come and chat with us everyday, we will make you feel better! :grouphug: Sending out some prayers to keep your DH safe while in Iraq.

Prayers going to you. My best friend just found out she is pregnant, but her husband will be in Iraq when the baby is born and he probably won't even hold the baby till it is almost a year old. Stay strong, there are alot of military support groups out there. If you need some info, please pm me.

Hugs, prayers and PD go out to you and your family. My best friend's DH got called up this winter and leaves his wife, DS8 and DS9. It is difficult for them but they do their best to keep in touch (he calls almost daily). She has become involved in her unit's family readiness group and I think that has helped her a lot.

Take care of your family, I hope all goes well for you.

I'm not in a military family per se (my father was a civilian in the army for 37 years) however there are LOTS of DIS'ers with spouses, children, parents, etc in Iraq.

Stay strong. Your DH is a hero and needs all of our support to help people who can't help themselves over in Iraq.

I don't even want to imagine what you must be feeling or going through.
Please know that your family and your husband is in my prayers.

I know we all appreciate him going to serve our country. Here's hoping to a quick and safe trip home.

God Bless!

Another "thank you" for your DH's service to keep our country safe. We are very proud of him.

He is in our prayers -- as are you and your two little ones.

"Thank you" to your husband for keeping our country safe. It's wonderful to have good friends around for support. That would be great if your parents move close to you, I know that would help you and your children. Your family will be in our prayers.

You're DH will be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks to him for serving our country and the sacrifices he and his whole family are making to make this the best country in the world!

My best wishes, Robin, for Bob's safety and well being. Him, and so many like him, are much appreciate, our thanks. Do hope you guys do well, know we here can provide a little mental comfort at times. Maybe post here too, asking for Oregon DIS'ers, may be some in your area. God bless.'s
