First I would like to find out if you can/has anyone gotten a AAA discount for the campground before. I would also like to know what it would be like weather wise for tent camping in the first week of Feb. Thanks

We got a AAA discount this past June, just ask when you book and they did ask for the AAA card at checkin. I would look at weather at that time frame for the past couple of years. We went at christmas one year and it was in the mid 80's, the next year at christmas it mostly cool and rainy. The weather will vary a lot.

cool nites /warm days.........50/69 + or - a few........bring an electric blanket:thumbsup2

This past summer I placed my reservation for next fall at the 500 day point (the earliest I could!) and at that point the rates for next year were not out so I couldn't get the AAA discount yet. I was told to call back when the rates come out and I should be able to get the discount applied then. I did call back the in August when the new rates were out and supposedly there were no more AAA discounts available by then! :confused3 I think a AAA discount is harder to come by than a reservation at the Fort!

I actually just got the AAA rate for an upcoming August 2008 trip to the Fort.

You have already received correct answers about the AAA discount.

The weather at the Fort in February is unpredictable.

We go almost every year for President's Day weekend.

Sometimes it is warm the whole weekend. Warm enough to not need a jacket, and to want to go swimming.

Other times it is COLD! This sign was posted on the comfort station doors on our last February visit:

I don't think that it actually went below 32 that night, but it came pretty darn close!

So, just in case, be prepared for cold.:cold:

Howdy!

Question, can you get the AAA Discout after you've already booked! We're going for a week in August, and of course would love to save some $$$

Thank You!

Duane, Thx again for the Trail Tip, we went last weekend and LOVED IT!

AAA discount, I have only gotten once, and yes it was gone the first day the rates were released for our Feb trip. I too book well before the rates were released and then called back when they came out and asked about the AAA rate and the were gone! :confused3 I have only gotten AAA discount once.

Yes, you can call back after you make the ressie and see if there is one available yet. I call back about once a week to check. So far no luck.

The weather is unpredictable. Bring a heater and electric blankets just in case. clkelly has some great tips on here somewhere about tent camping in the winter. just search the forum. Last Dec we were there in a popup with a heater and nearly froze until we bought wool blankets in Mexico at Epcot. Which is funny considering our first day we had to run the A/C. The weather can change fast. Good to know that the fort will post freeze advisories.:thumbsup2

We will be in a camper, but may send the guys outside in a tent to sleep if my friend and her 2 kids join us. I plan to bring a heater and wool blankets. I don't bring sleeping bags as they do not fit in the washing machines.:sad2:

BTW, the comfort stations are heated as well with an endless supply of hot water.:cheer2:

I've only used the AAA discount for our visits to FW. When you call, if your desired dates are available make the reservation even if the AAA discount is not available. As others have stated, you can call later and have the discount applied. There are only a limited number of discounts available per month but folks are always making then canceling reservations. For our last trip I called every week for about two months before I got the discount. Persistence pays so keep trying if you don't get it the first time.

As others have said.... Keep calling for the discounts like AAA and AP... I got our discount after I had made the original reservation and had to call them a second time to tell them that Sorcerer Mickey had made our trailer 7 years newer, 12 feet longer and put in a slide out…. I think I had the cast member in tears over that call, they were laughing so hard. But I can claim it was the fault of ftwildernessguy and the excellent Kungaloosh recipe he had posted. I was quite “happy” at the time of that call due to our purchase and the celebratory Kungaloosh… In fact I am on my second pitcher of some Kungaloosh now and waiting for our predicted winter storm to start… :cool1:
