Ruth's Chris Steak House

We have never shared an entree at Ruth's (I prefer my filet medium rare and DF prefers his with a faint pulse) but we do share sides and dessert. No fee to share those.

FWIW, I have never been to Ruth's when the extraordinarily attentive wait staff did not ask if we'd been there before and explain how the meat is prepared.

:)

Well, when we went there, the wait staff did NOT explain how things were made. And he was NOT extraordinarily attentive. He wasn't even mildly attentive.

But it was very busy that night (a Sat. night), so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Oh my god someone thinks its as good as Longhorns, ah have to disagree you can't even put it in the same category sorry. For a special meal Ruth Chris you can't beat it...

If you have to pay attention to prices, at that particular chain you cannot afford to eat there.

I know you are a moderator. But, I dont think what you said was fair. The Op, simply asked a question. A person can just simply want to know what they are getting into. Hence, wanting to know the prices. Instead of being blindsided when they get there. To suggest someone, probably cannot afford something is not fair. :sad2:

The Chris is great, I eat there about 5 times a year, on business of course. I haven't plunked down my bucks yet.

Funny thing about the gift cards. I sold about 5 different brands on eBay and was amazed at what they went for, all were 90+% of the original value.

I was thinking the same thing. I, personally, could afford to eat a $200 meal, but it would be nice to know it's going to cost that much before I go. Some people kind of like to budget. :confused3

Yes, I could have just as easily said to figure on at least $100 per person. But I was thinking of a very old joke when a person asked J.P. Morgan about the cost of upkeep on a yacht, and his response was if you have to ask you can't afford it.

Maybe I should have put some smilies in my post.

But, as a general rule, most people who eat at a restaurant at such a level tend to not worry about the prices. And most of those who worry about cost will very rarely, if ever, eat in such a restaurant.

My Dfi and I used to go there, and we like Jimmy V's MUCH MUCH better. I'm not sure where all the locations are, but wow are they good. Price range is about the same, but you get way more better food for your money. Plus the staff isn't as snobby as Ruth's Chris (at least in NC)

I disagree. We enjoy fine dining and a dinner that costs $100-$150 is something we do periodically, but we don't spend blindly when we are at the restaurants. We still pay attention to prices, often skip an appetizer, share a side or share dessert to lessen the total cost. And if I was contemplating going to a restaurant I had never been to before, I would definitely want to know the general cost before I went so I knew what to expect, even though I can comfortably afford it.

I am really glad this thread was posted. DH and I cashed in our Visa Extras rewards for $50 in GC for this restaurant. We planned on going in Orlando for our anniversary. I didn't realize it is so expensive. I was figuring like $100 for dinner for the two of us.

I would have been really shocked otherwise, so thank you OP.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Ruth's. Of course we've never actually had to pay the bill.:thumbsup2 Our cousin is a PA and he gets gift cards from the emergency room doc's all the time. I think the last time we went to the one in Jacksonville the bill came to around $350 for the 4 of us. And it was worth every penny!!!!!! Especially the Creme Brulee. YUM!!!!!!!!!!

I have eaten there 3 three times in the last 3 years. Every time I thought the steaks were pretty similar to Outback (which we eat at often). DH disagrees, and thinks Ruth Chris is wasted on me. :rotfl:

Let's see. Two petit filets at $32 each. Two sides to share, say a potato and a vegetable, at $7.50 each. That totals $79. Add one dessert to share (prices aren't listed but I'd assume under $10). That still leaves you under $90 for two. Tax and tip would take you over $100, but not by a whole lot.

I went there when I was on vacation in Hawaii. I loved it, best steak I've ever eaten, hands down. :thumbsup2
The prices are high, but I think it's worth it for a splurge. It's around the same price as a fine dining resturant anyway. I'm dying to go to the one here by us, but the price keeps me from actually doing it. I can dream about the wonderful steaks. :goodvibes

I agree I liked ours :) But I prefer Morton's :goodvibes

Yeah so I guess that's what we figured it would be. We don't usually get alcoholic drinks, so that saves us too.

:confused3 It's a popular saying: "If you need to ask you can't afford it!" That was my first response when I read the OP. I don't think it was meant in a mean way, especially by Cheshire Figment.

So true. It is unfortunate that we can "miss" so much of our communication when it comes down to black and white words on a monitor.

What Mike said is a cliche and I would be very surprised to know that he meant any ill will when posting it.
