Running Down a Dream 2: It's All About the Swag

Hi Scott!!! Hope you are having a great weekend!!! Tomorrow is the 9 Miler! I know you'll just rock it out like usual. New distance for me in this training plan...which always makes me nervous. But it's cool to know you'll be out there running it too (albeit a LOT faster LOL ).

Take care and enjoy the weekend :sunny:.

Hey Scott,

I hope your weekend is going well. Have a great (9mile:scared1: )run tomorrow.

Take care,
Beth

Hey Scott,

How did the 9 miler go, Scott? I hope it went well for you.:goodvibes

Have a great week!:cheer2:

HI! :wave2: Just checking in! I looked for MFM, but I couldn't find it this weekend... I wanted to compare to the Couch to 5K to see which I would prefer... Oh, well. Maybe I'll modify later...

Yes... so... your 9 miler??? hmmm??? :scratchin Amy Kicked butt on hers. I'm pretty confident you did too. Let us know! We're waiting...

Peace!
Stacie

Wow! Thanks all :)

Ahhh....October 1st :goodvibes: Such a great time of year...the temps are awesome, baseball playoffs are starting up, the Quest for the Cup (hockey) begins this week, the new fall linup of shows is in full swing (Rules of Engagement, Office, Survivor, Kitchen Confidential, just to name a few) and the training plan mileage starts to ramp up. Good times folks, good times.

Yesterday I did my 9 miler at a different location due to a big festival being held in my normal stomping grounds. I went to the path that I bike ride on (Silver Comet) and have to report that it was an awesome run. The first two miles were a bit sketchy but something happened around mile 3 or 4 and things just clicked...my breathing got easier, I was able to relax and I felt very strong. It ended up being my fastest long run in recent memory. Gave me a lot of confidence going in to the 10 miler and half marathon coming up, and it was just nice to log a good run.

Thanks a bunch to everyone for posting here...nice to see these boards alive and well :)

Hope everyone has a good day!

I'm w/ you on the temps! It is soooo nice here in NC today!!! Too bad I'm stuck inside! :sad2: I'm tired of this hot/humid stuff!!! Ready for much cooler, run-friendly weather!!!

Have a great day!!!

Stacie

Hey Scott-

Glad to hear you had an awesome run! Especially on a new course, that is great. You are going to do so great in your half marathon coming up!!!!!

I agree about the temps..so good that it is getting cooler. I love this time of year!!

Keep up the good work!

Great job on the run Scott.

I have to agree that October is my favorite month.

Hope training goes well this week.

Take care,
Beth

Awesome Scott on your run! The weather here has been unbeatable as well. I hope we have a long fall and short winter like last year.I hate the indoors.I am still waiting for that autopilot feeling to come back.I felt it before but wish it would return soon. How often should someone increase their distance?

Hope you have a good day!
Linda

Scott -
This is my first time posting here on your journal, but from the posts i have read of yours - you seem like a HUGE inspiration!! I am just starting out (see my journal) and need all the help i can get, so to hear all your great stories/tips,really helps!

Keep up the great work!

Awesome job as always Scott!!! That 9 mile run sounds like a dream to me :cloud9: . I really wish I had the mental capacity to zone out during a long run LOL. I have been waiting and waiting for that elusive "runner's high" but alas...not yet. Maybe this Sunday? Hmmm...ya never know :). Anyway, you continue to keep me on my toes with the running. I aspire to be at your level someday. It's pretty awesome to read about your success and continued drive, not to mention the incredible effort and discipline you continue to show in your training.

:goofy: is no match for The Scott. :)

Hope training is going well for you this week buddy!!!!

Hi THE SCOTT,

I like it.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi. Are yu starting to look toward your long run on Sunday, or is it just a day at a time?

Hope you have a good one.
Beth

Hi Scott!!! Just checking in! How's the week been??? What up for this weekend?

Have a good one!!!
Stacie

Hi, Scott. Just checking in after being MIA for a few days. Congratulations on such a great run - I know you will be in great shape for your next race! Hope all is well with you and that training is going according to plan. Since Stacie has convinced me to run the 5K at Disney in May with her, I'm going to be following your journal looking for tips!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday! :woohoo:

Thanks a LOT for the posts!! Been a little preoccupied with things so I haven't been around here as often as normal...I'll do better with that :)

First...answers to some questions...

How often should someone increase their distance?
Linda

Well, the rule of thumb here is to never increase more than 10% each week. I personally feel the best way to accomplish this is by building a base for yourself first. A base can be any amount of mileage...something you feel comfortable with doing every single week regardless of races or special training. Once you've built that base (meaning, you've ran that base distance 4-6 weeks in a row), you can then increase by 10% (example...if your base is 10 miles, you can add one and do 11). The most important thing is to make sure your body can handle any increase in distance, and be sure to back off if you feel any aches or pains. Hope this answered your question :)

Are yu starting to look toward your long run on Sunday, or is it just a day at a time?
Beth

I have to admit that the Sunday long runs are my favorite runs week in and week out. I love getting out there early, zoning out and just running. As I've said before, it's therapy for me...just me, my music and the occasional rabbits and deer crossing the path in front of me. I NEVER thought I'd say something like that, but it's come to define the "new me" that I've created over the past year and a half.

What up for this weekend?
Stacie

Saturday I plan on doing a 5 mile walk/run. Sunday I'll be out there doing a 10 mile LR, which will be the last LR before the half marathon. Other than that, it's just putting together the final preparations for my trip to Cali (CAN'T WAIT!!).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week has been just a normal week for me. I took Monday off, ran 6.6 miles on Tuesday, did 30 minutes on the elliptical on Wednesday and ran 4 miles yesterday. Tonight I'll do another 30 on the elliptical before settling down with some food and water, ready to watch the Thrasher's season opener :goodvibes:

Thanks again to EVERYONE for the continued support, encouragement and well wishes...I'll be getting to your journals over the next couple of days...I do hope everyone has a great weekend!

Scott - good luck on your long run this weekend!! When are you leaving for Cali? I am going out there in Feb. and i am so excited, it's been 10 years or so since i have been to DLR!
Have a great friday!! :)

Did I miss something??? Where are going and what are you doing??? I'm confused! :confused3 Are you going to California to run a 1/2 marathon or are these seperate events?

Hope you have a great long run!!! It's amazing that you run a 15K(more or less) for a long run in your training! I am just hoping to get there one day! It's amazing what the physical body can do (if your mind to it!)

I have a quick question...Is the course the same every year for the marathon/half marathon???

Good to see you've had a good week! Hope your run goes well this weekend! Have fun prepping for Cali!!!

Stacie
