Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

Rey does not fail, she has tiny little setbacks occasionally that end up having little to no harmful effect to her or her mission. Just exactly the way proper Mary Sue's are written, and also why many say she had zero character arc.

Well, she felt that she had. She fully intended to exile herself to Anch-To.

He should’ve had the Knights of Ren trying to resurrect the Emperor, and Rey and Ben ultimately teaming up to stop them.
Right, they could've been the kids from Luke's school that went with Ben when he turned into Kylo Ren. They become super Sith radicals and stay on the Dark path even after been return to being Ben. Then Ben and Rey have to stop them as you say. Instead they were just dudes with masks who ultimately served no purpose other than they looked cool and provided easy targets for Ben to cut through when he does his "I Need a Hero" montage to get to Rey.

Because the movie didn't need another Emperor. Kylo Ren was the villain. We keep repeating the same things again and again. Hux, the other First Order people who didn't want to see Kylo Ren lead could've revolted and wanted to destroy all the other planets that were "disloyal". Rey gets Ben to return and they team up to win in the end. But no, let's just bring Palpatine back from the dead because reasons. Now we have Star Wars content having to shoehorn in those elements to their shows. I hope Ahsoka doesn't.
I just think you underestimate how much backlash there was to TLJ. The studio was literally catching immortal hell over what Rian Johnson did. Many suggest Johnson's movie "split the fanbase down the middle". That one movie basically launched about 90% of the Star Wars YouTube channels that you all hate. Lucasfilm was reeling and felt they had to course correct to try and make the OT fans happy. The result was a bunch of member berry crap that didn't really make anyone happy.

Focus groups suggested Rey was not well liked as a hero, and her backstory didn't make sense. Focus groups suggested Kylo was considered weak as a villain, who was not an adequate big bad for the final movie. Focus groups suggested people hated how Luke was treated. It was a mess, and they simply freaked out.

I agree with you that the choices they made were stupid, but I believe it is all a result of letting Rian "Subvert Expectations" Johnson just do his thing in the prior movie. I think he is a solid filmmaker when he is just doing his own thing, but this was a trilogy and the largest movie IP in the world! I think Looper is a good movie, and I thought the first Murder Mystery one was pretty good to.

At least there is some consensus on here now as to what a mess the last two films ended up being in the ST.

I certainly don't hate it as much as TLJ. I guess I didn't love it, but to me it was at least an admission of how bad they felt they had screwed up TLJ. No way they course correct that hard, unless they truly believed they had screwed up in the prior movie. I just saw it as JJ having to try and fix everything Rian Johnson screwed up, I felt sorry for him a little bit. He took the hit financially to his movie, due to RJ ticking 1/2 the fans off.

Here is how I rank the Disney ST:
#1 TFA by a large margin
#2 TROS

#7684 TLJ

The way I see it, it built on TLJ. I know people seem to think otherwise, but it's all in how you look at it.

Really not sure how you see it that way:

Rey is a nobody = Rey is a Palpatine
Luke is a loser = Let's try to redeem Luke and make the ticked off fans happy
Kylo is a weak villain = Let's replace him with a resurrected Palpatine

Well, Kylo told Rey she was a nobody - either he was lying or Snoke told him that because they didn't want her to know! Luke was not a loser, but he does make his turnatound from hiding to hero IN The Last Jedi. His characterization in TROS is consistent with that. Kylo was always going to turn back to the light-side, so another villain made sense.

Here is something I read recently that makes a whole lot of sense to me:

All movies require a suspension of disbelief, but Luke’s shutting himself off from the Force, when it was the thing that gave him access not only to commune with Obi-wan Kenobi and Yoda, but his father as well, seems so outside of the character of the Luke Skywalker I knew and loved growing up.

The Luke I knew wouldn’t just give up on himself, the Force, or the Jedi Order, or, at least, if he did, he’d acknowledge after that he was wrong to do so. Which is what we get in The Rise of Skywalker. I’ll never forget the vindication I felt when I heard Luke say, “I was wrong,” to Rey on Ahch-To.

I agree with the author as I saw this as a direct Retcon and vindication that it wasn't the real Luke I saw as the angry bitter old man in TLJ, drinking milk out of a Dinasaur's teet. Like Mark Hammill so perfectly said it wasn't Luke it was "Jake Skywalker".

Whereas I felt Luke getting involved when they needed him to save the day and buy them some time was him acknowledging that shutting himself off was wrong.

Exactly. He recognizes "I was wrong" in The Last Jedi. That's why he goes to help. The movie didn't end when he tossed his lightsaber over his shoulder!

I guess since everyone takes everything so literally, he had to actually say the words out loud for everyone to understand. This is why movies have no nuance anymore. 🙄

Or they could have not just made him do a 180 degree turn in his personality to start with. PTSD doesn't completely change you to another person altogether. Just a hurting and slightly more cynical version of what you were. The complete and total personality change is what people thought was stupid. Even the character himself (Hamill).

We've done this dance before.

No because we are allowed to have opinions you disagree with.
And I am allowed to respond to them with my disagreement. So, stop telling me to move on if you are not willing to.

When I agree with you, I have said that. But I am not suddenly going to agree with your opinions that the Disney ST was well done, because me and a very significant portion of the fan base don't believe that. You want us all to go away and just leave Star Wars to the ones who like the Disney crap, that's not how this works. As long as Disney makes crap, there will be people wishing for the return of Real Star Wars.
