Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

You are correct, but the damage was done by Rian Johnson by then. He pretty much split the fan base in half with his deconstruction of Luke Skywalker.

JJ tried his best to fix things, but TLJ had screwed everything up so bad.......that it was unsavable at that point. Rian killed the big bad a movie too early, Rian Johnson killed Luke a movie too early, Rian Johnson killed the love of the OT fans completely. Rian Johnson pretty much killed Star Wars.

Mandalorian was/is a massive hit. I'm an OT fan and I loved TLJ, outside of the Canto Bight portion. At least it tried to be different. I didn't care about the big bad dying in TLJ because he was nothing more than JJ's hack version of the Emperor and was totally unnecessary. Kylo Ren was always the villain. Agree that Luke dying was probably too early but he sacrificed himself to save his sister and Rey, much like his father sacrificed himself to save Luke.

JJ didn't try to fix things. JJ just did his typical hackish job of making something that feels familiar so you'll go along with it only to realize it's not really anything original at all. I'll argue the problems with the ST mostly stem from all the mystery boxes that JJ tossed up in the air for the next writer/director to have to/be required to figure out. JJ destroyed most of the New Republic with his Death Star on steroids. No, see it's not a Death Star, it's an entire planet and it doesn't just shoot one laser, it shoots a laser that then can become multiple lasers, complete with lens flare! Rey isn't Luke she's just a plucky young spirit who can handle herself that just so happens to live on Tatoo...Jakku, a desert planet. It's playing safe and playing the hits.

Mandelorian was really good for two seasons, then the ratings plummeted. Absolute peak of this this show was the return of the real Master Jedi Luke Skywalker and not the old grumpy bum in TLJ.

Book of Boba was a flop

Obi Wan was a flop

Andor appears to be good, but no one watched it

If you think Star Wars is in a healthy place right now, I am just not sure how you can come to that conclusion.

100%.

Even on HERE, there were those after TLJ that said it was time to move on from the OT and accept the new group.

Which wasn't a bad idea-if done correctly (AKA simply cut Luke disappearing) when he's shown worn out on the cliff from what was a very cool (Not life/hero ending) Jedi trick. Carrie was gone long b4 it came out, so they had plenty of time to keep Luke for one more "Live" adventure. Not just a crappy part in the middle of 3 movies.

He got more airtime in Mandalorian-thank heavens.

But obviously backlash was enough to actually have the name Skywalker in the last movies title.

I like TROS enough for trying, but when they "tie" it all together with Rey "claiming" (Identifies as) she's a "Skywalker" to the old lady?

Oh I get it, that's why they named the movie........Please.

Andor is incredible. My favorite Star Wars in years. If people didn't watch it, that's their loss.
People didn't watch it because Boba Fett was terrible and Obi Wan was terrible and cannon breaking in the process.

Ultimately the viewership and financial viability is what determines the success of any show / movie. Andor is the least watched star wars content on Disney+

She is Rey Palpatine, she is not a Skywalker. Basically Palpatine wins in the end, and his blood line inherits the universe.

The movie should have been called The Rise of Palpatine

That's just silly. He didn't want his bloodline to survive, he wanted HIMSELF to survive in another habitable body. Rey has renounced him - that's no victory.

So most money = best content?

if that's the case, then TFA is the best Star Wars movie.

TFA was leaps and bounds the best Disney Star Wars movie, by a very large margin imho. I loved that movie and left it fired up for what was to come in episode 8. Enter Rian Johnson and his desire to subvert expectations, and it all came crashing down hard. Film classes will be taught in the future about how to destroy a franchise, and TLJ will be the prime example of how to do it.

How to tick off the fans of movies that came before this movie - 101. How to destroy the hero of a generation - 201. How to mess the story up so much the next director will have to do stupid stuff - 301. How to blame the fans and call them manbabies on twitter - 401

So Rey can just identify as a Skywalker and all is well? Does she also identify as having a proper heroes journey and a character arc, instead of just being uber incredible at everything she does on her first attempt?

Palpatines's bloodline did win.

Saying your a Skywalker doesn't change that.

But the whole point is that it doesn't matter what your bloodline is. By that Logic, Vader's bloodline "won" because of Luke. That's an odd way to think about it. Sure, you can not like that Rey took the name, but I don't think it symbolizes a win for the Emporer at all.

Based on the fact that Lucasfilms has been scared to death to put a Star Wars movie out in 5+ years seems to suggest a lot of people had a lot of issues with the last two movies. I personally give JJ a pass, as it was so screwed up after TLJ......he simply was putting lipstick on a pig at that point.

How is Rian Johnson's announced trilogy coming? Release date on his first installment?

Andor had the same amount of views as Obi Wan at around a little over 4 billion views. It probably got less views because it doesn't involve any of the typical characters that casual Star Wars fans would know. It also was a more adult show in the same way Rogue One was a more adult Star Wars movie. I think what Disney is finding is that Star Wars fans may just want their nostalgia played to and are more risk averse to new content. I guess we'll see with Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and the Acolyte.

I would argue Disney is the more scared group to put out a Star Wars film because all the OT content has been used up. Instead of just churning something out for the sake of making a deadline, I'm much more happy that they give the producers more time to fully flesh out their ideas.

And people love to crack on Rian Johnson but Knives Out was a pretty big hit, so much so that Netflix and Peacock wanted to do deals with him which led to a sequel film and a critically acclaimed show in Poker Face. I hope he gets a trilogy where he's free of Star Wars OT mythology that people dare not want messed with or they might feel their childhoods were ruined.

I agree that Rian is a talented guy, but him with an existing IP with a dedicated and passionate fan base was a really bad idea. The guys MO is literally to have half the viewers of his movies love them and the other half to hate them. He was a terrible choice for Star Wars!

Which of his other movies had that sort of reaction?
