Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

We're going Monday Apr 10. I also was able to secure fastpass for the second showing... so pending decent weather we'll have double the Rumor, double the Light!

I'm sorry, my goofy brain doesn't recall the dates of your sister trip. Our tiffins ressie is at 4:15, monday Apr 10. I think we're going to do Star Wars fireworks on Tues Apr 11, and planning on Galactic Nights for the 14th. I hope you're enjoying the planning, and it's gotten easier for you!

*running in circles* so excited!

One sister and I arrive Monday April 17th, with one night at the Contemporary, then our other sister arrives and we're at the YC until Saturday the 22nd (two of us decided to tack on an extra day on the front end). For some reason, I thought we overlapped! Galactic Nights sounds so fun! Wish I was there for that! Yes, planning is getting a little easier - still juggling very different interests. I'm glad we could nail ROL down! You will have fun on your double ROL night, lol! I'm very excited too!

A note on view based on JB: We had dining package seats and sat in the very last row. Wooden bleachers against the stone wall. We absolutely loved it. We could stand if we wanted, and had a nice wide view for the water effects. Rivers of Light might be a completely different experience, so I'm looking forward news from our intrepid, roving reporter!

Ah-ha! We DO overlap. April 17-19 is post-celebration recovery. We'll be at BWV. Send me a PM if you'd like to say hi on the 18th or 19th when you come over to YC. We'll be right across the little lake from each other. Whee!

You will need some time to recover! Cool! It would be fun to connect! Have fun on your trip!

Hey, folks, does anyone know the new link to the travel agent park hours calendar - the one I have always used just gives me errors now...did they move it? Or discontinue it????

Thank you! Last time I was looking for them for for my fall trip, and things were changing so rapidly, that they were accurate... when I went out to look for them at the old place, I just got the old dreaded 404 error!

Thanks for updating me!
No problem! I got that same 404 error planning my December 2016 trip and now have the thread bookmarked :-)

Hi loungers, here is my review
Just back, I'll try a spoiler free, honest review, coming from something that enjoys theater and the arts in general.
This is the perfect nighttime show for AK. AK to me has always been the relaxed park, where you take your time and instead of going from attraction to attraction, you stop and enjoy looking at an animal or a cultural show...from the moment I stepped into the theater to wait you could tell that a) everyone was excited to see the show and b) the music playing puts you in a very zen mood.
As with all shows, videos and pictures will not do it justice, so many vivid colors, transitions and effects that complement each other. The performers on the barges have very detailed choreographed moves and, yes the costumes that were so proudly displayed last year are gorgeous, I would've liked for them to be featured more.
I heard things after the show like "wow that was breathtaking" "beautiful show" to "it didn't really move me"
For those wanting the WOW factor, again that depends with the person. I think most people think of Disney shows and the wow factor in fireworks and other effects, and while this show doesn't have a loud Wow it left me with a feeling very similar to what I used to feel from Tapestry of Nations, the message that We Are One, all connected and interdependent to land, sea and animals , to me that is Wow factor enough.
I definitely recommend seeing it in person and not making a decision based on videos. Like I said in my previous post I sat in the fp section, last stone bench before the wood benches, and it was perfect.

For me, yes. The other seats were no more comfortable. Especially with your little ones I would aim for the lower stone seats because otherwise you will need to put them in your and DH's laps! The family in front of us the first time we saw JBAWM got up and left halfway through because they had children who couldn't see at all. I'm not saying you couldn't luck out, but the shorter rise really wasn't an improvement in seat comfort to me.

And there are always "butt cushions" or even folded towels you could bring. But to me, the other thing is that, from the photo, it looks like those upper rows are just crammed together...maybe the lower stone ones are too, but it just looks like there is a bit more "wiggle room" for those who may be tired of being "cheek to cheek" with hundreds of their newest friends.

But, really, this is a 15 minute show...I think I can sit on stone for 15 minute, heck I sit on the rock wall in front of Winnie the Pooh waiting for the FWs, and the stones at the Beast's castle waiting for dining. And, truly, for me, at that time of day, ANYTHING to sit on is appreciated.

Thanks!

Really enjoying reading the reviews! I spent some time on Instagram last night and it was very cool to hear the initial feedback!

Thanks for taking the time to do this review, FBs for RoL will go on our list for our July trip!

Thanks for sharing. The pics are beautiful. Sounds like the fp or dining package is pretty much a must have for us.

- Agree. "Pre-booking is way to go" at least until Pandora opens and we find out if the process changes.
- I saw photos posted last night on twitter that folks were in the FP+ line at 5:45 for the show which I think was 7:15. YIKES.
- It sounds like Standby has a small percentage of the theater (makes sense for Disney) so I can't imagine how long the folks who got in were in line.
- BUT will this change when they don't give out the FP+ to DVC/AP? Or will those just be folded into the FP+ pool?
- I expect the calendar, number of shows and how they handle FP+ to evolve over time.

BLOG MICKEY has posted a review, more beautiful photos and great video of whole show.
He had some comments regarding changes that were interesting.

@yulilin3, TOTALLY appreciate your feeling about this and the Tapestry of Nations ..... and it sounds like this is a perfect comparison. Tapestry was beautiful and creative, for it's time. I loved to sit and look at the intricate and stunning costumes and in awe of the "puppets". I have a zillion photos as I kept telling kids when they were big enough we would make those puppets for their Halloween costumes, they are so cool. But I think MOST Disney guests didn't feel that way, and that is my fear with this show. And the fact that Disney isn't listening to preview after preview makes me sad. I think MOST Disney guests (and that likely means none of us) want a clear story, flowing content and a finale. Even just a change in music can create a flow and new feelings ... the music sounded like the same thing over and over. SO many times at Illuminations - DS or I find ourselves explaining Illuminations to guests, they don't know the story, it's difficult to follow (heck I can't even see the images on the globe anymore) and they are confused what is going on. It's DS favorite show so he finds it sad when folks walk away saying it was slow and made no sense, but the ending was great. I just hate that when Disney was told over and over to fix very specific things on what they finally did put out ......... things that the average guest would be looking for, they ignored it for whatever reason.

I just watched video and most of it is VISUALLY STUNNING, but is that enough for long term? I could spend hours in an art museum with paintings .... not sure most guests at Disney would find that enjoyable. It's a perfect fit for AK which is an artful masterpiece of a park, but most of that goes unappreciated and unenjoyed by many. It was a risk to spend that much money on an artistic presentation - let's hope it pays off the way Disney hopes.

Had to love the few on twitter yelling at people saying "stop complaining, it's a soft opening" .............. hello? It has had 10 months to fine tune it's soft opening ........... there is just no excuses anymore. None.
