Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I'm right there with you - trying to figure out the best option with my traveling party!

Well, I booked a 5:55 dining package at Tiffins then a 1:45 lunch ADR at Tiffins as well.

I'm going to try to book a FP+ and then compare that options sounds better. With 20% AP discount at Tiffins thats going to be hard to beat.

for those who have booked the dining package -

The website states that the Dining Plans are accepted. I'm assuming that this will be like F! in that the normal 1TS credit restaurant (Tuskar House) will still be 1TS, and the 2TS credit restaurant (Tiffins) will still be 2TS? Is that a correct assumption?

That's great that they give you the AP discounts on packages...I've been thinking about bumping up to an AP this year since I have this extra trip planned but haven't figured it all out. But anyway, I've been thinking about the FP option too - my booking window opens up in a week - but I've wanted to try Tiffins and I think I'd rather do that and use the FP for something else, especially given it's a night show. Sounds like the FPs will go fast! At this point we're thinking lunch, so we can go back for a break and then not have to rush back to make an ADR, but that could change...

Sorry for the confusion....they don't do any package dicsounts with APs or TiW..

My thought is if I can snag a FP+ then I would do better paying OOP (with the 20% AP discount) at lunch or an early dinner rather than paying full price for the dining package (assuming the seating areas for FP+ and dining package are similar).

I think the dining package at Tiffins for an app, entree and dessert at $67 per person is a GREAT value...but I also think thats more food than we need and so long as I have a FP+ we can spend less with the AP discount.

It will be important for you to get a good spot if not doing Dessert Party (and I don't even think that is a prime spot). The old big intense fireworks and booming music are gone, the launch moved out of the park and show replaced with a SW Projection show with some lasers and some fireworks, and music. We did twice last trip and first was just in front of Dessert Party and the other was a dead center prime spot. HUGE difference.

It's good, better than I expected, different but def not the great fireworks show it was before. I think the reason some are getting concerned about the new MK show is that it could end up being more projection and less fireworks like this one and that would be a bummer.

Now that you and @ArielSRL mention it, I remember the fireworks changing...however I have a feeling that one may not be in the cards for me this trip. My traveling companions have zero interest in Star Wars anything...which doesn't mean I may not have the opportunity to lone wolf it at some point, but it may be a game time decision, if I might mix metaphors...

I would vote yes to your assumption. Not sure I would burn it at Tiffins though.

@LSUfan4444 explained what they meant, but yeah no discounts, not even for CMs. But CMs are getting 40% off at Tiffins so WOOT! that is a nice perk as long as it lasts.

I know you have a busy trip planned so if they are not in to SW then it's really not worth trying to force into your trip this time. :goodvibes

Ah, okay I gotcha....

Yes, it seemed like a pretty good value to me as well, although now I have a question...the blog post says that Tiffins now has a new lunch menu, but the cost for the package is that same ($67) for lunch or dinner, or at least from what I can tell. Do we think it's like a price fixe menu or you are just going to end up getting a little less value for your $67 for lunch? Like I said, I like the idea of lunch a little better and was okay with it being the same price, but would like to get a handle on things...

Yes, I have found over the years, there's really not a lot of forcing my sisters into doing anything, lol! But, my family went to the Star Wars dessert party last time, so I feel okay if I don't get to see it this time around, and like I said, we agreed for our sister trip that we can all go off and do our own thing if we want!

I think lunch and dinner are the same menu. Sometimes at lunch they offer a special, I know DS got last time he ate there, but I know some have reported unable to get the special.

I know Mama Melrose has the whole menu available for the dining package so I would assume it would be the same for Tiffins.

From a value standpoint, 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 desserts for $134 is a bargain....but its ALOT of food.

I haven't done a package like that before (we had Mama Melrose planned for last time, but had to cancel), but that's what I figured. Yes, especially for a signature restaurant, definitely seems like a good value. It will definitely be a lot of food for lunch, but we figure we'll go float around in the pool for the afternoon and then go with low-key snacks, etc., when we eventually get hungry again...haven't been to Tiffins yet, so excited about that!

Looking at it again, it looks like it's a menu in addition to the regular menu, with smaller portions. Doesn't look like it takes the place of the menu? I could be reading it wrong...

That is what my DS ordered from but there was just a discussion a couple weeks ago that folks at lunch had been refused the special menu, told it was only some days. We figured it was more to get folks to try it so maybe they offered only slower days.

He said it was in addition to the regular menu.

I think it's a great value at Tiffins (OOP, I would not use 2 DDP credits) and would feel I had value even without ROL. DS loves it there, says it would be his first pick every time but so far he's had the 40% discount.

I've only been to Nomads .... drinks and appetizers :drinking1 yummy stuff.

When we did the dining package for "Jungle Book Alive with Magic" at Tiffins there was no limitation at all on what you could select from each category - you had your run of the full menu. We had $152.50 worth of food and non-alcoholic beverages for two people (pre-tax) for the fixed price of the dining package. You can obviously maximize your value by ordering the most expensive things but everything we had there was fabulous.

I'm not sure it is 100% responsive to the question about the dining package, but when we had lunch at Tiffins in December the "Taste of Tiffins" was not on the menu. We were not interested in it since we were on a dining plan, so I did not inquire about whether it was still available.

That's kind of nice, you get to try a couple of things and it's a smaller portion...I don't know a lot about Tiffins at this point but looking forward to it...already second guessing my lunch choice, there's probably nothing available for dinner that night at this point, lol...I booked a dinner a different night, but I don't think it will work...I'll figure it out eventually!

Thanks for your response! Like I said, I'm not really familiar with Tiffins, but now that I've re-read it, sounds like with the package, for lunch or dinner you get the same menu, like you mentioned. I might need to familiarize myself with the menu, lol - sounds awesome! ...and then that "Taste of Tiffins" thing is something separate...glad to hear everything was so great!

DS had it in December. I have a feeling it's not a guaranteed thing, they offer when it works for them or slow day. DS also went a weekday and said maybe they don't offer weekends.

PS He LOVED the 72 Hour Beef Short Rib.

Has there been a map depicting the RoL (or Jungle Book) seating for dinner packages, FP+, and standby? I assume it will be similar to Fantasmic! and that dinner packages have the best views, but I am trying to figure out where FP+ will end up.
