Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Just read a report that JB is officially ending on 9/5 so they can continue testing on ROL. No open date for ROL mentioned, but did say the other nighttime activities at AK would continue. No idea if there's any truth in this, but thought I'd pass it along. I'd assumed JB would continue until ROL started? But perhaps Disney is getting rid of all nighttime entertainment....???

I read this too, and it did not say the source. I couldn't find it anywhere else and nobody's talking about it. I also thought they would keep JB until ROL was close to ready. Wow, our fall trip just keeps losing stuff.

Read as well; so what I am reading is ... still testing, needs more testing .... aka still not working .....................

We have been happy to host “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” this summer and will be saying a fond farewell to this limited engagement show on September 5. We thank the talented Cast who brought it to life along Discovery River.

As we approach fall, park hours will fluctuate with the season but we are excited to continue to offer Kilimanjaro Safaris from park open to park close, Harambe Wildlife Parti and Discovery Island Carnivale and the awakening of the Tree of Life.

Pretty sure at this point the word "soon" will need to have an extra entry in the dictionary with there being "soon" and "Disney soon".

Honestly with sunset coming sooner, they can offer the night activities and then close way earlier than 11. Without ROL crowds will be low and no reason to spend all that money operating until 11.

No more Safari at night (which is fine since you really couldn't see anything) I doubt they will turn on the fake sunset and lights during the last hour.
The Tree of Life awakening will happen just once I guess, sunset for early Sept is around 8:10pm and the park is closing at 8pm

I am so with you! YEARS ago when they would have night EMH (you had to show your key card for a wristband) I LOVED IT! Completely different experience, just beautiful and peaceful. Everest is awesome at night, better than day.

So I guess we can truly say this AK new nighttime offering was a full-ledge FAIL. Basically due to the failure of ROL.

WOW, who knew the LOUNGERS would still be doing our therapy come fall ............ and that we are WORSE off than we started.

They are not. They are not sitting AROUND a table talking things through, bouncing ideas like the old days. It's a bunch of emails and disconnect. Time and again ........... what do they not get here? How many fails, missed deadlines, blown budgets will it take?

MSEP is another .... apparently some execs knews, some WDW CMs knew but then other execs blow a gasket, scrambling and pacifying occurs and BAM ........ we are sitting in the dark wondering what is going to happen.

This is all a HUGE bonus for the other offerings in Orlando and if I worked there we would be hunkered down and ready to throw all kinds of bait out there.

Agreed....planning a trip for after thanksgiving, and back I March/April when ROL was such a bust and I was so neurotic, I didn't think I'd be doing this again in the fall!!!

Both were talking about all the work they were doing, so at least they are still working on it... Whenever RoL finally opens it better not disappoint, that would be the end of everything night time-wise at AK

I live in Montreal, Canada and I saw some Rivers of Light posters in public transit a couple of weeks ago! I get Quebecers love Florida, but to target people with posters in Canada and have nothing ready MONTHS after... that is more than a terrible waste of money!

Well to stir the pot o' rumor some more ...............

"The hope, and rumor, is that Paint the Night will make the rounds and come to Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom will celebrate 45 years this October, so it is likely we could see it as part of a huge celebration. Another persistent rumor is that SpectroMagic will make a triumphant return to the park, bringing an updated soundtrack and new lights. Another rumor will bring Fantillusion from Tokyo Disneyland to the park. Fantillusion is another version of the Main Street Electrical Parade that ran in both Tokyo and Paris for many years."

I'm reading this as AK going back to 7-8pm closings until RoL is sorted. It's a shame, even though I wasn't a fan of the nighttime safari I liked everything else about AK at night. It was a fun atmosphere.

My friend said there was a press event in October and the aim was to have RoL ready to debut then. Does anyone know when that's meant to take place?

Does she think that is viable? I mean at this point they could have rebuilt a good portion of this thing.
