Disney World Gives Animal Kingdom the Night Off

By Rick Munarriz Published August 15, 2016

The bold attempt at making Walt Disney's(NYSE: DIS)Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida an all-day and all-night park has run into a seasonal snag. The addition of several nighttime activities that extended the park's close from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. since Memorial Day weekend will be reversed following Labor Day.

Jungle Book: Alive with Magic -- the riverfront show that's been running twice a night to mixed reviews this summer -- will come to a close after Sep. 5, and with that we'll see the end of the 11 p.m. closing times. Disney plans to keep the nocturnal safaris, nighttime entertainment, and animated Tree of Life awakenings going, but Mother Nature may have other plans.

The park will start closing at 9 p.m. next month, but that will drop to as early as 7 p.m. come October. By the time November rolls around, the posted closings times drop to as early as 6 p.m., and that's even during the otherwise busy Thanksgiving Day weekend......................

Wow... late winter would make the opening almost a year later than projected. ROL is definitely off the list of things that I might schedule a trip around.

But not October.... :worried::worried::worried::worried::worried::worried:

Nope article says will drop to 7 in October and 6 in November. Now we all know hours can change and maybe if there is some interest in the night offerings during the party/F&W season they may restore a couple hours.

"Late winter" ..... to me that is January/February. Why would you premier when it's so slow? When folks joked about waiting until next Earth Day ... maybe they weren't joking.

ONLY HOPE HERE is Fox News is ............. doing creative journalism.

The hours currently posted for Nov. are for only to 6pm;
we booked 2 Yak & Yeti ADRs for @ the latest available times--5:45pm.
In my notes in MDE for those 2 evenings, I noted ROL.
We planned on FP+ ing ROL.

I wanted to see ROL on my birthday:(

This is getting ridiculous already...how are we supposed to plan ADRs 180 days out, FP+ 60 days out, without any guarantee about things as basic as park hours?

This is the new disney vacation reality...plan for every possibility using multiple MDE accounts

HAHA, exactly one thing they were trying to curtail with the credit card hold on ADRs (which we knew was pointless).

Of course this is only one of many articles and we don't know for sure if true but they finally did just adjust hours, not in ROL favor ..... why not do nothing to adjust the hours until you are committed to ROL rather than have to adjust multiple times - or does it mean what the article says, these are the hours, there will be no nighttime.

NONE of us know and maybe Disney doesn't even know but .............. from ROL to JB it's been a bust. I hear the crowds at AK are nominal so why spend the money at this point, most guests will be focused on other parks, parties and F&W. I can totally see them backing up and retry this in 2017 .................. but at the least TELL EVERYONE so they can plan.

Oh well, I want to book my fall trips but I might go creative on the rest of this year.

FROM INTERCOT - they claim inside source ??

Animal Kingdom Cast have reported that the Operational Calendar will not be updated to extend The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic show beyond the scheduled Labor Day (9/5/16) performance.

This "final" show date has been scheduled since mid-Summer, but it had remained unclear if the Operational Schedule would be updated for Fall shows.

Cast have reported that an announcement for the postponed Rivers of Light show has been delayed for the need of additional testing of show elements. The internally speculated opening date is now 'Late 2016'

Additionally, Cast have reported that the Tree of Life Awakening, Kilimanjaro Night Safari, Harambe Parti, and Discovery Island Carnivale will continue on days where the park shows after-dark hours. For example, late September 2016 dates are showing a 9:00 pm closing with sundown around 7:00 pm.

After the original issues around RoL opening, we didn't plan for it AT ALL for our Aug trip or our Nov W&D trip. Figured I'd add plans for it IF it was open by then. Looks like nothing to change. Maybe next summer! :)

This has always been an issue. Hours always change as a trip nears. But recently, the swings are definitely greater. It is annoying.

Our Rumors of Light might have to been broadened to Rumors of Light Parade in MK.

Good point! ::yes::
About the only thing that has been consistent with all this is the Rumor part. :laughing:

I'll certainly be on the lookout for that one...! ;)

Was sadder than I thought I'd be seeing MSEP the other night for probably the last time... maybe less "sad" than nostalgic... :(

There are so many options that could come about in MK that it could provide hundreds of pages of ideas here at ROL Headquarters.

:idea::idea::idea::idea:

To save money and get a parade back sooner ................

Pull Electrical Pageant Parade out of the water, drop them on some axles and use some cars from the Tomorrowland Speedway to pull them.
