Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Well, at least we know *something* now. And I guess I now have to hope it's ready by late June when we're there. <sigh> It won't be the end of the world if it isn't up and running by then, but it would be nice to see it since we most likely won't be back until 2018. Now I'm going to cross my fingers and focus my energy on hoping that FEA and Soarin' are open by the time we're there (and as an added bonus, maybe we'd get to see the new Soarin' movie -- not just the new theater). Sorry to those of you going in April & May...and possibly June.....

April people--I am sorry:

"With the expansion of Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, we’re excited to give Guests even more opportunities to celebrate the magic of animals and nature as day turns into night. While we’d hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date as we give the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way we know will exceed our guests’ expectations.

We’ll share more information about timing on Disney Travel News by mid- to late May. We checked in recently during rehearsals of two key elements of the nighttime experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: the dramatic water and light show Rivers of Light, and the new nighttime magic at the Tree of Life."

Ughhhhhh :badpc: I'm gonna start drinking:drinking1:drinking1too bad i'm at work.....

The HUB posted their FAQ for guests who call about the delay of RoL

What is not opening April 22 as planned at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?
We had hoped to debut new nighttime experiences including Rivers of Light, Kilimanjaro Safaris, awakenings at the Tree of Life and other atmosphere entertainment on April 22. Unfortunately, they will not open as planned as we give the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way we know will exceed our Guests’ expectations. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to debuting these new offerings.

Why is the opening rescheduled?

Will there be previews?
We have not scheduled Cast or Guest previews and look forward to sharing more details later.

When will FastPasses and dining packages be offered for the new nighttime experiences?
We expect to share more information about timing on the Disney Parks Blog by mid- to late-May.

ha! - I feel the opposite. I thought I had accepted that I probably wouldn't see it, but now seeing the update I realize I was still holding out hope. :(

And since we're probably not due to go back until April 2018, it's kind of a bummer. maybe that will change...

Well, I can finalize some plans now, but still haven't recovered from the Extra Magic hour swap from a week or so ago...was just going to post about that before this blog post...
I'm with you 100%.
I'm actually mad right now. Nighttime Safari, Tree of Life lighting, Parties and Carnivale, EE at night.
I'm sure in a little while I'll get over this resentment, but it's just another Disney 'not understanding their customer' moment to me.

Oh man, poor CM
They are gonna be tired of repeating that over and over and over

I'm super bummed, AK is my fav park and was hoping to catch the show early May with DH.
We are hitting AK and MK for a few tours on our anniversary trip before heading to Tampa for another few days. Well at least now the kids won't be mad we are doing something new without them.
Guess that leaves my night open for taste testing the food/wine kiosks at Epcot F&G festival :)

Yes but what about park hours? Give us that answer HUB ;o) April and May peeps need to still know when the park closes and it won't be 6 pm as currently posted.

I think we should be grateful Disney provided us an update. Even if it's not the news we wanted, it's better to know. Besides, how can we complain about receiving information, when all along we've been complaining about the lack of information?

Agreed - I personally just need to grieve a bit since I won't be back any time soon - thought I had accepted I probably wouldn't see it in April but now I realize I hadn't...and I am also complaining that they must have known that the 4/22 date wasn't going to happen if they're saying that info on the timing in mid-may or late May ;)

things are happening so quickly I can't keep up--is the understanding that all nighttime events/activities have been postponed, or just ROL?

Well at least they announced something... we are going the week of 5/15 so I will now STILL be watching all the way thru the trip. I can see the opening delayed a month but the way that read it seems like there won't even be an announcemnt until mid May which means what? No opening until Mem Day wkend? June? This would be Soooo much easier if it was like going to UO/IOA, just book your room, show up, wake up and decide where you are going that day and actually get to do it.

Yes, they way they worded it, def. seems to indicate that it most likely will not be showing in May...I'm thinking at earliest mid-June and even that I'm not real confident on.
