RUMOR : WDW 5th Theme Park - "Disney's Night Kingdom"

It sounds pricey for something that isn't an all day event.
For my family to attend (5) it would cost 1250!
I am all for loosening the purse strings at Disney BUT 1250 for a park in the dark...an animal themed park at that where it will be hard to see the animals?:rotfl:

It sounds like Disney will have to iron out a few cinks for this park.

I like the idea of the low crowds and the more Cm's ... the pampering would be cool. I think it would be much better to offer it during the day and maybe throw in a few rides and shows..
Feeding a hippo is kind of cool but we have horses and well... hay is hay :rotfl:

We only stay deluxe (that site said they will be targeting the deluxe guest) and as that article stands, I dont see me spending 1250 for a night of seeing animals in the dark. :rotfl:

It sounds amazing! I have no clue whether I have the guts to do anything listed, but it sounds great none the less. Although the price tag... approx. 1500$ for my family for a day! Thats *almost* as much as a Wdw vacation in itself!

Sounds like an offspring of the AK. The cost of the park isn't enough to really show a "new park" construciton, but maybe a sub-park to AK....possibly replacing Conservation Station. Would definitely make sense not to re-create AK just for night time....not to mention AK already closes relatively early, so it would merely pick up where AK leaves off. I am sure people would gladly pay, there are already so many people doing the sunrise/sunset safaris for a pretty penny, just for a couple of hours.

I have to agree that it would cost a ton for a family. Definitely not what Walt would have wanted, considering he wanted everyone to be able to go to his park. I would love to do something like it, but I've wanted to go to Discovery Cove since it opened too. I just don't have that kind of money to spend for a couple of hours. I was hoping they would go more for a coaster park like Islands of Adventure for those of us thrill seekers. I hate that Disney has great thrill rides, but only like 1 or 2 per park so you have to hike it all across the world to ride some great rides.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure about this one. I do think that they should add some marine life to AK even though EPCOT has an aquarium, but that cost is high! Family of 4pays $1,000 for one night! Ouch!

Disney isn't about thrill rides. You can get those anywhere :rotfl:
The quality of ride is whats important at Disney... I wouldn't mind a park with no rides to get the Disney experience. My problem is the night thing. How well will you see the park if its dark? :rotfl:
It sounds like they are going for a lush tropical type of park with lots of animals. Yes, some animals are nocturnal but even then how well can you see them in the dark?! I could see where having a thrill ride park set up would bring in those thrill seekers though... if Disney did a coaster park it would widen the field of guests. A coaster park would fit in better with the night theme too rather than trying to view animals in pitch black. :rotfl:

It does sound like an add on to AK would be better than adding a whole new park off of PI. It also seems it would be more doable for CM's as this new park has a lot of animals... keeping the animals together would seem like the thing to do.

A) Sounds like something for which I would have ZERO interest.

B) Sounds like the Disney Institute which folded like a wet cardboard box.

C) Sounds like another weak Jim Hill rumor.

D) I always temper my opinions here with "anything is possible" and Disney can certainly start this or any other idea they'd like. They don't need my advice, but...

E) See A above.

just like Discovery Cove. We tried to get in for our trip but it was booked on the day we had available. That being said, there are six of us but it would have been either DH or myself with DD. It isn't something the boys would have been into

I've been hearing about this for weeks now from various places, and from what I've heard, this IS happening, it's just not announced yet

I don't buy this at all. Doesn't sound very interesting. I don't see Disney ever opening a theme park where only 2,000 guests are allowed in at a time. It works for Discovery Cove, but Sea World deals with maybe 10% of the crowds that Disney deals with.

Sounds like a cross between the old Discovery Island and the Disney Institute.

This really isn't a 5th park.. but truly and honestly - more like a half park.

Of course, this is the same Jim Hill that said Ratatouille would be an abysmal failure and DisneyQuest would be closed by now, so.. while his information may be correct at the present time - whether or not Disney actually goes ahead with this exactly as described is a big question mark.

Mind you, Disney's Night Kingdom will have no traditional theme park rides per se. But you'll still be able to get your fill of excitement & adventure as you strap on a pair of night vision goggles and then wander out into a pitch-black African savanna. Where you'll then be able to observe up-close lions & hyenas as they go through their nocturnal hunting routines.

You'll also be able to try your hand at spelunking as you explore a cave full of bats. Or -- if you're not a big fan of bats -- how about rock climbing? Does that sound too much like work? Then why don't you head on over to that Southern American-themed enclosure where you can frolic with some penguins?

I just don't see this as a "theme park". Maybe a diversion placed at Animal Kingdom.

I'm going to leave this here for a day or two so we don't get 17 more created just like it :) but then its heading over to the rumors board.

Thanks!

It sounds to me as if they are attempting something very similar to DC but their spin will be to offer this experience in the evening.

It would cost $1500 for our family of six. We would go BUT not with the entire family. I think that's the key. I don't think they will be targeting entire families or even just those who stay only in deluxe.

For example, we really wanted to bring our DD to DC. It was completely sold out for our entire LOS. My boys wouldn't have been into it enough to justify it sdo it would have been her and one of us!

As I said, they can do anything at Disney that they want (who better to do the "unusual?")

My main point was that it is spectacularly UN-appealing to me, and sounded so much like the previous Disney venture of similar ilk that was also of no interest to me, the Disney Institute.

When I'm at Disney, I love that I am INVISIBLE.
By this I mean I'm just one of the masses floating through enjoying all there is to do.
I don't want to join in a "classroom group" atmosphere to do things like hand-feed a hippo.
If this sounds appealing to some, that's spiffy.
But I wouldn't pay $5 extra to do it if they had a sign to that effect at DAK right now.

It smacks of those corporate retreats where everyone from the office has to fall backwards into each others arms, slide down a zip-rope, let out a primal scream and then sing Cumbya. Its just not my thing.

So if they can make a go of this high-dollar extra (its really not that expensive, by any means) it would be another way to keep some families an extra day at WDW.

I WILL be interested to watch and see if and when it takes off.

.

There must be a lot more to it than what was mentioned. $300 per person to climb a rock, look at animals with night vision goggles and play with a hippo?

My thoughts exactly.
