Rumor on possible new DVC resort

Huh. I can't say that I find this suggestion appealing at all. I'm shocked at myself! I normally find ALL things DVC appealing! :-) Just not this idea, I guess.

Give us something to get excited about!!! :-)

I disagree. The whole purpose of DVC is to constantly bring people back to staying on Disney property and spending money on Disney property.

touché, but selling contracts is a means to that end. My point was that DVD doesn't really care if all the rooms are filled as long as they can keep selling contracts. If they are successful in selling someone a contract, they know they will be coming back and will add to the bottom line

I hope this is just a rumor.
I am still hoping for a Polynesian DVC or something completely different closer to MK. I did the tour of BLT and while I like the location, the decor and layout of the building did not appeal to me. I love another DVC resort connected to the monorail.

I would contend that if there was/are plans for DVC rooms at the Dland hotel they were put on hold due to slow sales. I have heard of no delays for WOC or Carsland, what have you heard?
I have not heard of any delays either. I've heard everything was on, or ahead of schedule here.
I think a California themed resort could be a lot of fun. With different areas of CA being the theme, I am wondering if all the buildings would have a different architectural style. We recently bought a mid century house in Palm Springs. We are seeing house after house being snapped up here, and restored. Mid century modern style is VERY popular, and a lot of fun to work with, and I'd love to see Disney's take on it at a DVC.

I think we are talking about different things here. WoC was supposed to debut a couple months ago and they have been putting off soft openings and CM previews and all sorts of other events according to the WoC Superthread. What I heard was from a bellman at VGC when we checked in on April 16 that they were briefed on the new DVC tower and then it was taken off the plate shortly thereafter.

As far as the new Florida resort, I think a CA theme would be awful! I mean, I live here! Why would I want to stay at a Disney conceived themed resort of what they think CA in FL should be? I love the Grand Californian and that theme is great. They already have the VWL and AKL/AKV, another theme would be great, but a CA Beach theme would really suck. I live 4 blocks from the ocean and make it a point to drive by the beach and check out the Queen Mary and the ocean every time it is convenient to my driving route because I can. Why would I want to stay at a forced themed resort that tried to mimick my home town or one so close by that I could visit it more often than the resort?

I personally would love a Huntington Beach, California DVC future
location!

Stayed at the GCH on incentive points last summer and visited Huntington Beach! GCH by the way was awesome!!!!!!!!

Being people who love the beach, we had an awesome time!

Just dreaming............!!!!!!!:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

DVC sales are are very big chunk of WDW's bottom line (BLT netted about 500 million), they can not give this up without a very obvious drop in the Bottom line. It is also improtant to remember that on site guests are a minority of the park visitors (I think I have seen 15-30% quoted). Disney is "hooked" on the DVC sales net profit and are not going to give it up willingly. Now I am sure that on site attendance helps as these are higher expending vacationers, but since the increase in CRO rooms has been minimal, it cannot be the driving force.

I think the location seems pretty good. I like the idea of being within walking distance of a waterpark. I wonder of the waterpark could be the main pool with quiet pools at teh hotel. I think it is important to have the walkway to Hollywood studios as well (it looks very close depending on where exactly they put the hotel).

I am just not crazy about the California theme either. Could be too many Disney execs live out in California:hippie::hippie::hippie::hippie:. I could think of many other themes that would be better:
Australian
Haunted
Piratepirate:
Asian
Similar to Poly
Similar to GF
Ocean Theme
A clown theme :scared1::scared1::scared1:(just kidding here..really..no one would stay there) California:hippie: is not much more appealing.

The devil is in the details though. Disney has a way of making these thing work. :wizard: I orgionally thought OKW and SSR were bad concepts but I love them both.

I think a ski lodge theme would be cool to go with the whole blizard beach theme.

It is funny that you mention an Asian themed resort, since there was originally suppose to be an Asian themed resort where GF now sits. http://land.allears.net/blogs/jackspence/2009/07/hotels_that_never_were_at_walt_1.html

I wonder if BB would still close down for 2 or 3 months each winter.

The whole purpose of DVC is to constantly bring people back to staying on Disney property and spending money on Disney property.
But, once you have a Member, they are going to come back---because it is already "paid for". If the Member doesn't come, they'll either exchange their points (someone else comes), rent them out (someone else comes), or it goes into breakage (which CRO can fire-sale if they need to, and someone else comes.)

Every DVC Member instantly becomes part of the largest captive audience WDW has ever had.

think this is a bad ideal.

first if you really wanted to walk to BB - you can.

there are value and moderate resorts right there. for your maintence fees you could probably stay at the value resort.

DVC has a problem - BLT - to kept most DVCers happy they need something better than BLT - and this is certainly not.

but then who knows it might be like SSR - it was the next after BCV - and it did better than expected.

I can only see a California theme being successful if it has direct access to DHS. It looks like there is some space to put a hotel with a gate close to the car stunt shows. There is some kind of road back there, but it may just be an access road.

IF DVC MUST go around a moderate...PLEASE do something across from POFQ.

I'm sure there are thousands of ideas that could be a huge success.
Just like there are thousands of ideas that could be a huge failure.

How many people thought Walt was crazy for buying swampland?

Only time will tell if the concept is good or bad.

This is exactly how I feel about the Boardwalk DVC. I live in NJ about 20 minutes from Seaside, 40 minutes from Atlantic City, and an hour from Cape May. All places I go to on occassion. The last thing I want to do on vacation is feel like I am at home! I want to feel like I am at my vacation home - so for me California would work, since I don't live there and for you the Boardwalk would be a good pick - see something for everyone!;)

I am wondering when the rumors for a new park are going tostart coming out:confused3 With all these resorts we could certainly use another park to put everyone!

A new resort next to a new park would draw HUGE sales IMHO

With all due respect, I really hope not. New parks require hundreds-of-millions of dollars worth of infrastructure alone--everything from utilities (plumbing, sewage, electrical) to roads, parking lots, security booths, backstage areas, restrooms, gift shops, landscaping and on, and on, and on. And that's before you add a single attraction to the park.

We would be much better off if Disney spent that money to expand the current parks. Hollywood Studios and DAK in particular could use entirely new lands with multiple attractions. I would much rather spread my travels over 4 parks rather than 5, particularly if each of those parks have more to offer.

I agree. Finish the parks they have before building another 1/2 park.

Ewww No!!! Huntington Beach is gross!!! Dirty sand & cold polluted water from the sewage treapment plan that discharges 4 miles off shore. Swimming in sewage.... Yay Fun! :crazy2:
