Rumor by agent - Blue Card min. going up

It almost makes me want to make my direct purchase first (which is probably the point). The problem is I want to buy August, Sept, or Oct, and while I don't really care which, the direct contract I want is SSR, but the resale contract I want to buy is BCV and those are by far the 3 least common UYs for BCV.

Blergh.
Interesting that you picked BCV as that is the one you said the math was hardest to stack up.
Personally I think you will be getting an excellent mix to your DVC portfolio

We'd want it in part for studios on weekends in the fall. That is next to impossible when renting points because it books up too fast to get a rental reservation put in. So the valid comparison for that timeframe to me is cash booking through Disney at 35% off, and the math is still very favorable there.

I got confirmation today that the minimum is going to 125 at the end of September. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the rumors were correct.
Did you happen to get any additional definition around timing? Is it when the current offers expire?

This seems like a really stupid move by Disney. They should at least get the annual pass benefit going again for blue card members before they increase the minimum. I've considered CCV direct but I just don't see the benefit currently with no moonlight magic and no annual passes. I'd be buying purely on FOMO.

They do come up but you're right, they're less frequent and also tend to go for a bit more of a premium. If you're happy to spend a little bit extra you can find your ideal UY.

Just got a DVC survey:

Question: Are you a Disney Vacation Club Blue Card Holder?
Reminder: Blue Card Holders own at least 75 points purchased directly through Disney Vacation Club and are eligible for additional benefits.
Yes
No

First of all, you could have a blue card with no direct points if you are grandfathered. Plus, it’s 100 now for new members.

Or you could be like DH and I who purchased resale in 2017 but were mailed a Blue Card anyway :cool1: We don't expect that mistake to be repeated when our current card expires haha :rotfl:

But I'm surprised at that survey - what else where they asking?

If you want it for a specific booking, then the UY doesn't really matter. You just keep it separate and use it for that only. I find it easy to deal with more than one UY, and I like being able to separate out the buckets of points for what I want to use them for.

No joke. What are the blue card benefits right now? Discounts on the spa or golf? Or are those closed too? The Epcot lounge? Anyone know if that self-serve Coke machine is even open?

There are no APs and no Moonlight Magic. Who knows what benefits will come back at all.

Basically satisfaction with DVC. One interesting question was when will you go with Covid. Answers were as soon as they open, as soon as they open with safety measures, when there’s a treatment, when there’s a vaccine, never. The question was repeated for theme parks, international, Hawaii, coastal locations.

...which shows that although not the best bang for your buck, BCV still has that something special to make people open their wallets...Stormalong :beach:Bay!

Seriously though, that is exactly why we did it as well. Ten years of being shutout during the month of October resulted in us finally adding on this summer.

Yes, Another way to read ”the worst value” in a free market is “the most popular”! Over the next 12-18 months I will be buying SSR for value and BCV for BCV!

Let's hold off until we hear something official. There's not much to go on so far other than some rumors. It may be true, but it's pretty far from confirmed.

Oh, for sure. I still don't like the idea. I do agree with the other posters who said that it doesn't make much sense in this economic climate.

I'm hoping to buy at the Disneyland Tower DVC, and hopefully the minimum will still be 100 then.

Do we expect them to announce official plans of an increase in minimum points for Member Extras? I've been talking with a guide who has stated that the minimum will "increase soon", but stopped short of giving me a deadline. The existing discounts/promos expire September 16th, so my guess is that any increase would coincide with the promotional expiration. Anyone know how this has been handled in the past?
