Rumor by agent - Blue Card min. going up

Toured the Copper Creek Cabins while I was there last week and it sounds like DVC is not going to offer the smaller add on contracts either. This could affect people who only need to add a small number for the Blue Card. I believe they said they are only going to offer 100 points and up.

They are selling smaller contract now, even with the current 100 minimum. I’ve been talking to a guide about a 50 point AKL contract.

If I buy 50 points today will I be grandfathered in to the 100 point blue card minimum?

so long as you purchase a total of 100 direct points before the increase, and maintain those poinTS, yes you will get the blue card.

Assuming you haven't already been grandfathered in:

Yes, if you already own 50 points purchased directly (to make a total of 100 directly purchased points).

No, if you won't have a total of 100 directly purchased points before the minimum is raised.

Is the minimum being raised actually a certainty or just a rumor at this point?

From a potential buyers perspective it is puzzling to raise prices during a slow time but from a marketing perspective, the threat of a price increase is as good as a "sale". That is my take on it.

Does anyone think they will increase blue card benefits with the minimum price increase?

Issue is historical buyers.

What I can think of is possibly a move from APs to a ticket discount for days booked on direct points. Book 7 days and only 3 of them with direct? Only get a discount on those 3 days.

Another would be a worked out discount for food (although right now food plans are offline as well).

Example
  • Raise minimum to 150
  • Discount on tickets during direct stay
  • Discount on food packages during direct stay
  • One time offering between now and September 30th (end of fiscal year) to upgrade points to direct for $50-$100/point (possibly varies by resort so that older or cheaper resorts are less while VGF is more expensive)

which owners does this apply to? I have 35 points from direct add-on in 2011 and have sold my other resale points. I bought annual passes and booked members cruise based upon those 35 direct points. I assume I'm a 1a?
Resale buyers who purchased after the first round of restrictions (which prevented people to use the costly exchanges) but before the second one (which introduced the difference between blue and white cards).
You bought a direct addon before they raised the minimum to 75 points (later 100), so you're grandfathered into a 1.a member.

There is an additional category:

1.a) Blue Cardholders
1.b) Blue Cardholders who cannot use the poor value exchanges (ABD, Cruises...) or book the members cruise
2) Pre-2019 white card holders
3) Post-2018 L14 white card holders
4) RIV resale white card holders

Does anyone know the specific date for 1b?

"As of March 21, 2011, you will not be able to use the vacation points associated
with this Ownership Interest to make reservations for the Concierge or Disney Collection options such as Disney
Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, or select Disney resorts. Further, as of April 4, 2016, you will not have access to
other Disney Vacation Club incidental benefits (also known as Membership Extras) such as Member discounts on
dining, shopping, Member-exclusive events, and certain special Member offers. Do not purchase your Ownership
Interest in reliance on access to or the ability to transfer these Disney Vacation Club incidental benefits. This
purchase does not negate any access to Membership Extras that a current Member may still have based on the
purchase of a prior Disney Vacation Club contract purchased and recorded prior to April 4, 2016. Effective January 19,
2019
, only Members who purchase directly from Disney will be able to use their Vacation Points at the 14 existing
Disney Vacation Club Resorts or future Resorts—such as Disney’s Riviera Resort or Reflections – A Disney Lakeside
Lodge. Resale contracts purchased for the existing 14 Disney Vacation Club Resorts will only be able to exchange
Points into those 14 Resorts. The eligibility rules for Membership Extras and RCI access remain unchanged. Resale
contracts purchased for Disney’s Riviera Resort may only be used to book stays at Disney’s Riviera Resort and RCI
Collection."

Thank you! I purchased a couple around that time and forgot which ones applied.

I would think that raising the minimum would have the opposite effect. We’re white card members who are planning to buy in with 100 points at the Disneyland Tower. Raising the minimum would make me reconsider that plan. We won’t be staying more than four nights in Disneyland so we won’t need any more than 100 points.

I agree that it's counter-intuitive, but I just wonder if Disney is targeting current members instead of new buyers. I believe the current direct offers also apply only add-ons, which means only current members can get this deal. I'm not sure what discounts new members would get...
