Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That's cool, I'd like to take the family to the NC Zoo. Being mainly outdoor (compared to even a theme park) I feel Zoos are nice transitions into "being open" and good test beds for getting people back into large gatherings.

Are they offering a discounted price? Just curious. Not sure it is really needed, but with some "experiences" closed, you are getting less bang for your buck.

Most Zoo's are hurting financially. They usually rely on donations and ticket sales to operate. Some Zoos are supported by their cities, but even those will be hurting because city budgets are going to get slammed this year.

Please think about those zoo employees that are probably going to lose their jobs and Zoos will be left understaffed and the keepers are going to be frantic trying to take care of the animals that they protect.

Thank you, @AtlantaDisneyDreamer for understanding!💕

Next up in The Great Mask Debate: airlines won’t “force” passengers to wear masks once up in the air Reuters

They will encourage it and remind passengers and “de-escalate” conflict arising between masked & unmasked passengers.

So if you aren’t cool with unmasked passengers, stay off planes.

I can see Disney following this playbook too... Required for entry, required in park, people reminded of it, but not “forced” after park entry.

I am pro mask- however, there are many studies that show due to the way airplanes regenerate air, you're less likely to catch a virus on the plane that on other portions of your journey. That said...I'll be the guy wearing the mask the entire time.

This is exactly what I’m afraid of. I will be super bummed if I cancel my trip over this requirement then start seeing a ton of reports that it’s not even being mildly enforced.

Is anybody else just losing interest in going at all if we're going to have to adhere to a bunch of restrictions? It sounding like a miserable vacation IMO and I'd just rather not go if they're going to suck the joy out of the place.

Oh .. I don't "EXPECT" Disney to drop prices right away (or at all), I don't think Disney is a "right" .. I am just stating what I feel from a "value" perspective. Which I do everytime I plan a Disney trip. Do I stay at the Poly or Pop? I decide how much money I want to spend for the value I personally think my family is getting. It is an individual choice.

So I guess .. if Disney offers me some sort of discount to keep my June reservation, that will go a LONG way in helping me decide if I want to come. But, like you stated, they may not need me to come since they want to keep capacity low. So they are happy just taking the money from people who don't mind paying full price for a reduced experience.

Long story, short: Disney hasn't provided ME personally with enough information yet to know if I will go or not in mid-June.
I know not everyone feels that way, but A LOT of people are doing the song and dance of saying that Disney has to lower prices or do special promotions because it's probably going to be a reduced experience. Disney isn't forcing anyone to come, you're either willing to pay or you're not. End of story. I haven't been given enough info to make a decision about my July trip either, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, but I in no way am going to be angry if Disney doesn't offer me anything. From a crisis management stand point they are handling this in a rough way, transparency is a great way to instill confidence in consumers in times of crisis, and they just don't have it. I've worked in crisis management in healthcare, the best thing you can do is come out and at least say what you are hoping for, what is in your sights, and at least try to calm the anxious minds of the collective group (be it employees or consumers). Silence is probably the worst thing you can do. It's like if you're having an argument with someone and they just stop talking, give you the total silent treatment, does it help? Usually no, it just gets you more worked up/angry. They don't have to have all the answers, but letting consumers know they're at least trying is better than all this mess.

I am also waiting to see what my July trip looks like to see if I will cancel (or if they are even open)... but I will be extremely upset if I have to cancel and not able to rebook with the same discount I had booked, or a similar discount. I was up at 3a on 1/2/20 and booked immediately when Free Dining dropped for the summer (and not give me a fall discount that I cannot go to.. I booked Summer because that is the only time of the year my family can go w/o pulling my son from school). It is ridiculous that Disney is cancelling people and not allowing a similar discount to rebook. Disneyland Paris is allowing previous discounts from cancelled trips for future rebookings. WDW needs to step it up.

Same. I am absolutely at the point of just wanting to cancel and start getting myself excited about a trip a year or two down the road. But this was going to be a big family trip and my dad isn't ready to accept it. So I guess I'm still going through the motions of booking FPs and all that next week for our mid-July trip, but if by then it's still masks on and no fireworks, I know darn well he won't want to go (or will go and be crabby and wish he hadn't.)

It`s only true If Disney let you cancel your already "paid in full" vacation without loosing ANY MONEY. Unfortunately the international booking conditions won`t let you get a full refund even I f you cancel 12 months ahead! If you cancel less than 56 days in advance you`ll loose substantial amount of money.

Not being able to float a discount is a horrible move on their part, IMO, I do think that's the least they can do! We have a BB offer with a big room discount that I have been told I can use if I have to move my trip to my back up time in November (that I hope I get to cancel). Since they haven't announced any new discounts it's just really awful that they won't allow people to keep them. They might be trying to not incentivise people to come back since they don't know when they're officially opening and want to keep attendance down, but it's probably doing more harm than good at this point with some people so hurt they'll probably write Disney off for a good long time. While I don't think Disney has to lower prices or offer anything in the future, I do believe they at least need to let people hold on to their deals and use them on a future trip.

My family isn't going until December of this year and I am even worried that it will still be a limited experience by then. My DD's and DH will be there for the first time and I haven't been since 1999. I know my girls will be totally disappointed without character meet and greets. My oldest older talks about meeting Belle and the beast and Gaston (too many YouTube videos lol). I don't know when we will be able to go back after this so could be a once in a lifetime experience for then don't want it to be limited.

I can only speak from a US guest point of view, which a majority of people on these boards are, and how the cancelations are being handled on this end with Disney returning funds on trips canceled due to the closures. International travel is a completely different ball game and handled entirely differently than US bookings, but from what I've seen from one friend who had an affected trip in May, they did get their money back because the cancelation was of no fault of their own.

True - if you don't like what Disney is offering, don't pay (or go). They are in a tough spot for sure. But without a direct way to give Disney our opinions, I guess this forum is it.

That is another good point, the silence isn't helping. The fact that I have a booked vacation at WDW and don't know (with 4 1/2 weeks until supposed check-in) if the resorts will be open and IF they will be open what it will be like is odd to me.

Is anybody else just losing interest in going at all if we're going to have to adhere to a bunch of restrictions? It sounding like a miserable vacation IMO and I'd just rather not go if they're going to suck the joy out of the place.

Disney is in a tough spot for this. It isn't going to be a "vacation" to a lot of people even if it is the social norms to socially distance and wear masks for the near future (even though I feel this is an overreaction and hopefully won't last long). What Disney has "sold" in the past (magic, escapism, friendly customer service), just can't happen with a lot of restrictions.

We can get take-out food from our favorite restaurants right now, but it still isn't the same and I've found myself just not wanting to go out to the same places as much even though I can still get food there. I don't enjoy my food half cold and in a styrofoam container. I want my burger and fries hot and I want to have the energy of being in a busy place with lots of people. I want to be able to share a table with friends and family. So .. ya .. even though the restaurants are still open, I am just not going as much. It's not the same.

Same with Disney .. it won't feel like an escape or magical if half the attractions are closed, everyone is wearing a mask and it feels like you are in a sterile hospital, not a theme park.

Not Disney's fault, I am not saying they should just open like normal right away (gotta start somewhere), I am just saying a LOT of people won't want to go vacation there with the restrictions because, like you said, it just will suck the joy out of the place.

Yes, If Disney cancel your vacation you`ll get a full refund. That part is true. That`s not what I or you suggested.

But what you said :
"Disney isn't forcing anyone to come, you're either willing to pay or you're not. End of story. "

If I make the decision that the reduced experience is not worth for me and want to cancel I CAN`T without loosing money.

So in a way Disney is forcing me....

Of course it`s understandable that you are not familiar with international bookings why would you?
Although I do thing there are quite a few international users in the site ... in the same shoes as me.

Again. Being cancelled by Disney because of closures is quite not the same to cancel by me when I learned some new information about reduced experiences and not wanting to go.

It's my opinion.

I have no desire of paying all that money to be hit with a never-ending list of restrictions and basically be treated like a prisoner. Forcing everyone to wear a useless mask in 95 degree Florida heat for hours straight is a joke. It's not wearing it for 20 minutes while in a store and putting up with a little inconvenience, it's all freakin day in the sun. That's insane. If it's that dangerous that they have to force everyone to wear a mask in those conditions, they should not be open. That's my opinion.

Or you can just choose to not go. That is my opinion, as someone with a trip booked, debating the whole thing.

Btw, the masks do prevent the wearing from sharing their saliva and other liquids with others. That is the point.
