Rude waiters

Jennasis,
Yes, I thought it was beautiful. I still do. Sorry.
I tried to post the actual gift card but can't get photobucket to work.

We had the all you can eat pancakes at work, we actually had a couple get furious because they could not share..They stiffed the server and then called the manager and complained because the server would not let them split it...I really think its common sense you cant share a all you can eat meal...people cease to amaze me..:)

3 of us go to Be Our Guest. Order 2 beers and 1 soda. Nephew doesn't like the taste of his beer and drinks his water and some of my son's soda. Waiter comes over sees nephew drinking soda and looks angry. Soon after waiter brings another soda without asking if he wanted a refill. Because of the chip on his shoulder, I decided to check to see if he charged me for 2 sodas instead of 1. He sure did. OK whatever, it's the last day of a wonderful vacation. So I pay with my personalized ebola hidden mickey gift card and credit card. When I go to sign and get cc & gc. No gift card.
So I handled it by deducting both sodas out of tip. Don't be mad, at least I didn't deduct $6.95 that disneystore.com charged me for my personalized gc.
Let's see. You didn't order or want the second soda, which your son partially consumed, but said nothing. Your nephew was unhappy with his beer, but said nothing. You deducted the price a soda that was ordered and consumed by your son. You wanted your GC returned, but you said nothing. I don't think this unpleasant encounter can be blamed on your server, who's only actually crime was bringing, and charging you for, a soda that your table didn't order, but drank anyway.

Limpy, That's about right. I guess I could have said to the waiter, "Are you mad, are you going to charge for that second soda? if yes, could you bring him a coke instead?" But what if his answer was "What! No! This is my regular facial expression. I would never charge for that second soda."
So you'd be OK with him charging for the second soda? What about your spouse, would they be OK with it? Like I said, I could be wrong. I'm still leaning towards that he shouldn't have charged though. But I do see your point.

I wouldn't worry about it, but then, I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt. He could have just been stressed and lost his cool for a second. I don't think I would go to the manager (and I just don't have the "let me speak to a manager" haircut lol) But I might mention it to my server.

Emily,
Maybe it wasn't stress. What if he was mad because I was drinking the beer and he was saying to himself:
Here's another lush trying to get wasted in the happiest place on Earth. Who does she think she's fooling. She was planning on drinking both those beers right from the very beginning. She didn't even finish her steak. Wouldn't want that food soaking up that alcohol. Walt is rolling in his grave right this second. I'm going to charge for both sodas. Hah!

or not.

I have encountered rudeness at a few Disney restaurants. One if them was Ohana, my favorite restaurant. We were treated terribly, and it's always been my favorite place to eat anywhere. I haven't returned since and I did wite a review on tripadvisor.com including the waiters name. Now we will be trying Boma as our Vaca kickOff dinner.

Ask for the manager immediately - there's not much else you can do that will have much effect.

Obviously, I wouldn't be ok with being charged for the second soda. But I would certainly have given him at least one shot at fixing the situation by informing him that we didn't order it and asking him to remove it from the bill. I realize that you are putting a lot of stock in the facial expression of someone that you just met, but it's entirely possible that he brought you the second soda by mistake (ie, it was meant for another table). I wouldn't dock someone's tip, especially for something I ordered and consumed, without saying one word to them about my concerns.

My Mom and I often travel together to WDW and split meals at table service restaurants. We also don't drink alcohol (Mom doesn't like the taste, and I can't due to medical issues). We are typically greeted by a friendly server with a big smile. Once they realize that we are sharing a meal and not ordering drinks, sometimes we pick up an attitude. If we do, we tip on the actual cost of the food we order. If there is no attitude and they are as friendly as before, we tip on what two meals would have cost us.

I have often had a server tell me they were just taking the drink order, or even the regular server saying that he just wanted a drink order now and would return for the food order. Sometimes they can be somewhat abrupt, but I figure that they are stressing out and trying to organize themselves most efficiently or they are just helping out the real server. I typically don't let that bother me much and wouldn't ask for the manager unless it was really bad.

. . . How do you handle that kind of situation?

1) I would just let it go.
2) After all, This-Is-Disney.
3) Now, if you were paying premium prices . . .
4) Oh.
5) Wait.
6) YOU ARE.
7) In this case, I would call a manager.

:cool1:

I will of course take your word for it..:).........weird is right! We have never seen it ourselves and to snap fingers is weird and odd as well! Why would any wait person do that, it could only reduce their tips.

I too have had another waitor/ress who handled the drinks at DW and it is not uncommon. I have worked for a restaurant that also uses this approach and there are many other restaurants that do so.

I also have had some rude waiters at DW. We eat mostly TS at Disney and that does increase the odds of it happening. Tips have nothing to do with being rude. Either your swamped, having a bad day and loose your composure or maybe you are burnt out and need another job. There are so many reasons. It happens no matter where you are. Less frequently in some places but it still happens.

I personally could never work in DW as a waitress. I am sure they deal with more stress from their customers than other waitstaff do working in restaurants not located in a destination like DW. Think of all the rude people we complain about on this forum and now imagine having to serve them on a regular basis.

I think what the waitor did to the OP was uncalled for. All he had to do was either; take the order and get the drinks, take the order and pass it on to the waitor for that table or let the OP know he would get his waitor for him. Simple. I personally would not complain unless there was another problem. But you definitely would not be wrong for saying something to the manager.

It wasn't a waiter, but a hostess, who was awfully rude to us. We just ignored it, but my husband is still fuming over it 5 years later. He refuses to set foot in Coral Reef again, thanks to that lady.
