Rude resort security guards?

Yes, there was a security guard at CR who really was stern when we went to check in last fall. The reservation was under my name and he took forever to supposedly check us the list since my DH was driving and handed over his license. We didn't say one word to him but Hello, we are here to check in. And my husband answered his questions as the reservation was under my name, not my DH's. While I wouldn't call it rude, he was just stern, a no nonsense kinda guy, and that's fine with me since he is working the gate.

with all this said, I am sure that CR security has their work cut out for them since it's the closest to MK in terms of having a pathway to walk to or go in and hop the monorail, and I bet alot of folks try to park there when they don't have a legitimate reason for parking there.

We just got back and honestly every security guard we encountered at the GF and Animal Kingdom Lodge were very welcoming & hospitable and all said "welcome home."..especially a wonderful, friendly guard from our homestate of Pa when we checked into the Grand...he came right out of the guards station & shook my DH hand & told us to make sure we drank plenty of water since the heat index was over 100 degrees... We found unfortunately a particularlt rude female cast member in the winery at Germany in Epcot on two different days...must have been having a bad week? but she was that way to everyone, couldn't believe it!

Funny how you get such a hard time when you are going into a resort. Meanwhile ANYONE can jump on the Disney buses from parks or resorts or DTD and go thru the gates at any resort without a blink of an eye......:confused3

In the past when my family and I would return to the Contemporary we never had problems with the Cast Member security guards, because a lot of them would say welcome home. When we went to visit other resorts like the Boardwalk once again they were nice to us and all they would ask for is photo ID and to see our KTTW card.

I have never had anyone ask me anything at any other resort...they would just say HI!!!! :confused3

It's been my experience that showing my DL to the security guard is a necessary thing, as they've always looked up my information and compared it to a list of arrivals that day. If I'm on that list, they hand me a parking tag good for my length of stay. After that, as long as that tag is in my front window, they just wave me by. There may have been one or two occasions where I didn't get the tag until I checked in at the front desk, but that didn't really affect my treatment in the overall sense.

I've personally never been treated rudely by security staff at the resorts.

yes it is wdw BUT you do NOT have to let them be rude to you in fear of being banned! They can not bully you.The lady in the evening gown should have went right to the front desk and made a complaint. That was uncalled for and rude....disney is not always right and there ARE some undisney like people who work there.

Oh I hope when making the complaint she mentions leaving her car at the GF while going to MK.

We have always had pleasant experiences with the guards, but because some people break the rules they tend to get jaded when they think someone is not where they should be.

It is really silly when you think about it any joe blow can take the bus, boat etc to get into a resort.

There is really no reason to be rude even if someone is rude to you. You get more accomplished with Honey than vinegar.

Was not sure where to post this, but it has been bothering me since returing from our latest vacation at WDW, and I wanted to know if anyone else has run into this.

It seems as though we ran into the rudest, "un-magical" security folks at our recent visit to the world, across multiple areas. It started when we pulled into our resort, CSR, and didn't really end the whole trip. I'm not talking about gate\park security, or anyone in the parks, but rather resort security.

This was our first trip driving, and the guard at CSR acted more like a drill instructor telling my family where to go when I first pulled up to the gate. No biggie, it was hot, he was standing in a little shack. The trend continued however when we drove over to the Boardwalk\Beach\Yacht club area for dinner that night. THe CM at our resort told us we could use our key card at any resorts parking area to get into the lots. Again, our first time driving, so we didn't know any better. I pulled up, inserted card at the BC area, and it didn't work. The guard immediately came over, and began to give us a "lesson" as to why, and pretty much gave us the feeling that we should have known better, and since 9/11 they made changes, and just deal with it. We were like, uh, OK, another real happy guy here. Mind you, I don't mind being told the rules at all, however, I do mind being spoken to like a 10 year old who has just broken a neighbors window playing baseball, rather than someone staying at a Disney resort, LOL.

The trend continued at nearly every resort we drove to. We had a LOT of dinner reservations at different resorts, so driving made it easier. Same type of thing happened at the GF. We were promply told, again, in a drill insctructor like fashion, that we had to park in the self parking area, and also told we were not to use the resort parking lots to get to the parks.

OK, we are a family of 4, two adults, two kids age 7 years and 8 months. I don't think we looked like terrorists, and we were paying, Disney resort and park guests. (Have been MANY times for the past years). This type of treatment, really really bothered me. It made me uncomfortable, and definitely took some magic away.

The few incidents I list above were not the only one's, and they may not seem like a big deal, it was just a bit frustrating. Is this the norm with these guys when dealing with people in cars, or did I just hit a bunch of grumpy, hot, rent a cops? (I mean no disrespect to anyone working in the industry).

I'm not normally one to write and complain, but I'm really thinking about it over this, although I'm not sure who the guards actually work for, i.e., Disney, and outside company, etc. etc.

Thanks for listending to the ramble........

I don't understand why you think your resort ID would open up the gate at at different resort? Do the resorts actually look like they have enough parking for just any resort guest who decides to drive? I think you misunderstood the CM at CSR about using your resort ID at a different resort.

Also, didn't you see the signs at each resort connected to a theme park that they are sorry but they cannot provide parking for the theme parks?

I know just about every time we pulled up to our own resort in our car, there had to be at least one car that got turned around at the guard shack because they weren't supposed to be there. The security guards at the resort car entrances have to be the most patient people in the world because they hear so many bad stories.

By the way, I don't think they are rent a cops. They are Disney CMs just like the people at the front desk.

I'm not sure you read the OP very well. They were not going to the resorts to park for the parks - the OP stated he had lots of dinner reservations.

And you must go at really busy times because we stayed for 17 days during our last trip. We went to nurmerous resorts for meals (all of the monorail resorts plus BC and BWI), and came and went out of our own resort (SSR) many, many times and we didn't see one car get turned away. In fact I don't ever remember seeing a car get turned away.

And here is the payoff of all those people who say "Go park at a resort and go to the parks... it doesn't matter.. they don't care."

Basically .. when SO many people try so hard to constantly get around Disney policies... yeah, I'm sure they get a little blunt with the warnings.

Case in point: A bus driver on our trip in June when he told us that they used to run buses directly from DTD to the 4 theme parks, but so many people were parking at DTD and taking the bus to the parks in order to avoid the parking fees that they discontinued the direct service.

They are also taking a photo of your license plate while you are showing your drivers license so they know who is entering the resort.

Didn't realize they were getting a plate number. I'm glad they are looking at room keys. A little safer I guess. I know they don't look at the expiration of the room key. I drove by flashing a plastic card.

I don't understand why you think your resort ID would open up the gate at at different resort?

Because that is what the WDW CM told her.
If you read the post you quoted, you would see that the OP stated "THe CM at our resort told us we could use our key card at any resorts parking area to get into the lots. Again, our first time driving, so we didn't know any better."

Again, as stated in the post you quoted ( but apparently didn't actually read), the OP was there for dining, not for park parking.

I guess we have been lucky with the little dealings we've had with guards.

The only one who really left any impression on me was the one at the Contemporary, when we pulled in that first day in May to check in. He very matter of factly asked me my name with his little clipboard in hand, which I gave him and said that we were checking in. He then looked at me all seriously and said..."well what took you so long?" This was just the best comment in the world to me because it truly fit...I felt like it had taken FOREVER to get to the day where I would be staying at the Contemporary...my "dream" resort. I just laughed and said "I know I know....I got here as fast as I could!" And he gave me this huge smile and said "welcome home." :lovestruc

Again, no. The Guests who've had negative experiences with resort guards are apparently the exception. They have been UNlucky in such encounters. Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Guests every year - such as the quoted poster and several others in this thread - have the expected positive experience.

Respectfully, Guests with positive experiences are not 'lucky'. We simply have normal encounters with these Cast Members. Luck has nothing to do with it.

I am sorry you say no disrespect to the industrie but you seem to still call them a "rent a cop" that comes across as some one that has Issues with Security!. By no means Is any Security officer even close to the Inforcement level of a Police officer. Did you stop to think that maybe the "rent a cop" was Inforceing the rules of the resort and doing what they are being told?.Was It bad custumer service ya by the way you explained, but was he doing his job the way he was told, you might have asked him oe her or a resort staff.

We're at a Disney Resort 3-4 times a week (dinner or lunch) and I have never seen a car turned away either. I'm not saying it can't happen, but......
To make life easier for all involved, have your picture ID out.

It's posts like these that get me frustrated on these boards. :( Don't take things so personally. Life is too short...be happy. :) I meant no harm with the "rent a cop" statement at all. (Hence, the problem with message boards as it is very difficult, even with emoticons, to show your tone).

My intention when making the original post, was not to start any type of argument, I just found it rather odd that I ran into quite a few security personnel that seemed very "un-Disney". I was not trying to scam anyone, get away with parking at another resort to get into a park etc. etc., just simply making an observation.

I post on here, as many do, as it is a great community. A place to share experiences at the parks, resorts, and to share a love of all things Disney.

Sorry if I offended anyone, or my original post was taken the wrong way.

It does not matter if she went to MK....I have been told many times when I have been to the GF that we could get on the monorail and go to the MK to watch the fireworks then come back, we were just told that a month ago when we were there. There was no good reason for the guard to treat her that way! There was a better way of dealing with it...she was RUDE.If I am not mistaken the guard that was rude to her was not at GF anyway so that had NOTHING to do with what was going on.It is so funny that some people will defend disney at all cost even when they are clearly wrong!I love wdw also but not everyone there SHOULD be there. What that guard did was waaay beyond just cranky it was uncalled for.
