Hi all!!!

Planned to do this immediately after vacation, but my computer died, and I am just today back online. I kept telling DH how guilty I felt, after all the GREAT help and support I got on these boards, I hadn't done my duty by posting a trip report! Now I can sleep comfortably!!!

RECAP (since it's been so darn long!!!!)
People: Patti and DH (37), DD (9), DS (7) and DS (5)
History: Disney lovers! DL Ap holders, WDW 4/03, 3/02, 6/01, you get the picture. UO Patti several times, DH several times, kids NEVER
Dates: UO 8/6 through 8/11, then driving to Asheville, NC for a week-long family reunion
Tickets: MC 5 day (but 4 get 1 free) use or lose tickets
Budget: TIGHT (but I took some extra hidden cash SSSHHHH!)

8/6 - Wednesday

We woke up at 5 am (remember I work until 1 am on Tuesday nights!!!). LOADED (caps on purpose) the minivan full of stuff I'm sure we thought we needed, and drive to the airport. About 30-40 minute drive (obviously no traffic) and park in long-term parking. We leave the receipt and $20 in the van. Late that night my BF and her DH drove to the airport and picked up our car. They left the airport, paid the $10 fee for one day of use, and took the van to their house. They brought it to my house a few days later when they checked on my house. Stroke of genius!!!! Nobody loves us enough to drive to the airport at DAWN, and a taxi would have been $60.

8:30 flight (SWA $99 per person) leaves on time and stops over in Nashville. Full flight, but that's what we expect with SW! Less than 1 hour layover, and we are off to Orlando. Land on time, and head to National for a car.

Got an intermediate car, and EA was BAD! Nothing above a full size available at about 6 pm. Loaded everything (very carefully like a jigsaw) into a Mitsubishi something, and took off.

Red Roof Inn on Major Blvd was $31.99 for the first night, and WORTH IT! Room was clean and fairly roomy. Continental breakfast the next am was adequate.

7 pm---HEAD TO US!!!
I'm sure nobody remembers this thread, but we had discussed what to do that first night, and the final consensus was Curious George so the kids could run around and yell after a long day of flying. GREAT DECISION!!! Went there and closed the joint down. Kids and DH just ran and whooped and got soaking wet! Between Curious George and Fievel, it was a HUGE hit!

9 pm---Leave US, dinner at Wendy's near hotel, COLLAPSE!

8/7 - Thursday
10:30 am - let the kids sleep in, DH brought breakfast to room. Checked out and headed to RPR.
11 am - Got a LOVELY front desk woman, who promised to give us a perfect room, even though it wasn't quite ready. Picked up keys and headed to IOA.

Nice, easy walk to IOA, and headed straight to Seuss Landing. The first time we did the FOTL key thing, we were all a bit skeptical, and nervous, BUT IT'S AMAZING!!!!! Rode Cat in the Hat a few times, one fish two fish, then ate at Circus McGurkus, which I know is terrible. BUT, the Grinch spent the entire time in the nearly empty restaurant playing with my kids and joking around! It was the cheapest character meal ever! LOL!!!!

After 2x on Flying Uniforn, we had to hide out from the rain, so we headed for the Jurassic discovery Center. It was a bit of a disappointment, but the kids like the baby trike.

Walked through toon area, into Marvel and ran onto Spidey. After being very brave, DS(5) burst into tears after the ride, saying it was scary. After a few hugs, he wanted to go on it again, and I held him and told him what was coming next, and when to close his eyes. By the THIRD time in a row, it was his new favorite ride!!!!

After DH did Hulk, and the four of them did Storm Force twice, we headed "home" to RPR to check out the room.....

RIGHT THIS ONE DOWN, FRIENDS----1644!!!!!!!!! Great room with a view of the water taxi, hulk, Dr. Doom and the FIREWORKS!!!!!

We ordered Flippers (cheap and good!), rested and put on our bathing suits for the evening.

6:30 pm ---head to IOS in the POURING RAIN!
Did Spidey 2x while relatively dry.
Did Dudley Do-right---my butt was lifted WAY off the seat! Great!
Did River adventure---all kids LOVED the T-rex effect! Another soaker!!!
Went on Popeye (which is my FAVE) and never got off! It was raining, getting late, and the ride was empty, so the workers didn't make us get off of the ride. Moreover, the water was HEATED, so the rain felt cool. What an effect! We stayed on for either 5 or 6 times, before I said enough is enough!!!!!!!

Headed back to the room at 9:30, to find out COOKIES AND MILK!!! What an awesome treat. While we were eating our snack, the fireworks started right outside the window at 10 pm, and I had tears in my eyes, I swear I did!!!! When DH hugged me and said "thank you for this. You are awesome!" I thought of all of you guys, too!!!!!

See you at Part 2 (I hope!!!)

And who said Universal didn't have magic??? Isn't it great? We stayed in 1623 and had the same view you did!!! I loved the resort and loved your report! I can't wait to go back.

Going to part 2 now!!!! Keep it comin'!

Ahhhh yes! We experienced alot of the same magic as you did. We were there right before you (Aug. 2-6). We were on the 2nd floor but could still see the fireworks and everything else you mentioned. It was a wonderful trip and I am now addicted to Universal and all there is to know about it! I enjoyed reading Part 1 so now I am off to Part 2!

Thank you all for your responses!!!

I love the threads on "magic"!! Magic is where you make it, and if you don't have it in your heart, you can't find it anywhere!!!!!

Re: getting a good room. I didn't ask for anything specific, but I put on a big smile, was very friendly to the front desk person, and asked very kindly if she could get us something with a great fireworks view. I'm a firm believer in the "few kind words" technique to getting what you want!
