Roundup at the Fort - 2024 Fort Dismeet

That said, Melissa did make it in last night without issue. Her flight was even 12 minutes early to the gate. We made it back to FW around 01:45, and quickly off to bed with no alarms set. I woke just after 8. Today we are going to tool around FW a little then head to EPCOT. One day a meet will happen when she can join me.

James, I'm glad DW made it to MCO with no issues. Have a great time and we hope to catch you both on a future Fort trip.

Back from lunch at Wilderness Lodge/Geyser Point.

We rode the bus over (down to Settlement, transfer to WL) and I made it a point to check the Exercise Trail that runs along Wilderness Road (the road running between WL and the new TCD Horse Barn).

We had received reports that it was fully paved and I can confirm that. However it is still blocked off from use.

This is where Frontier Way (that runs over from loop 2000 and Creekside Meadow to Wilderness Way) crosses the Exercise Trail and it's also blocked off.

Down at the WL, it is also blocked off but the end circle shows the new pavement that was put down for paving.

It's my belief that, although fully paved, the Exercise Trail remains closed because non-Disney traffic is crossing it on Frontier Way (namely, the DVC cabin contractor employees). It also has traffic from the R* contractors who cut a road from the staging lot near the old Disney runway to the R* build site for material, equipment, and people. The new parking lot across from the Horse Barn is likely for Disney CM's to park at while working around Pioneer Hall. Previously they had parked on the dirt R* construction site behind PH but since the R* work has resumed, they needed a new place to park. As a reminder, the old Exercise Trail was torn up to use as an underground utility corridor from the WL area up to the R* site.

Walking to Geyser Point, there was plenty of wildlife. SquirrelNet had been activated.

I also noticed that the outside vertical set-of-five log poles (buttresses?) on the outside of WL appear faded and cracked (all of them on that side of the building) and some dues money needs to spent to repair/repaint them.

It's a bad look right now.

Geyser Point was not too crowded but all the lakeside tables were taken and that was okay.

DW got the salad with steak (well done) and I got the steak sandwich with fries (sorry, no pics, hungry).

After the meal, DW wanted to sit at the outside seating area and relax and I looked around.

I don't know if those tall cranes in the distance across the lake are on Disney property or not.

What else did I see?

Hmmmm.... :scratchin

Thank you for the update on the exercise trail. Due to Hurricane Helene flooding our house, we had to cancel this year's annual December trip. I hope next year the trail is open and we're able to use it.

We enjoyed Jollywood. There were some good (and not-so-good) cocktails. I was looking forward to the Sugar Cookie Martini. It did not taste like a sugar cookie. But I dipped my biscotti in it, making it taste a tad bit better. The Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls were not that great.

We had reservations at the Brown Derby. The menu was limited to appetizers and beverages. The food was tasty (wings, chorizo arancini, and pork belly bao).

The Tip Top Club was our favorite. The Market ran out of drinks.

The Photopass was included with the ticket. So we took lots of pictures. I even stood in line for 40 minutes to get my picture taken with Minnie. I had to tell her she was wearing the wrong outfit, and we do not look like twinsies. She laughed and gave me a hug.

We left around 11:30 pm because we were just plumb tired.

Glad to hear those heading north are making it safely. Melissa said it was finally cooling off up there and we heard yesterday might have been the first measureable rain in well over a month.

Saturday was a late start for us. We slept in with no alarms set. I think I finally stirred around 8:30 in the morning. We had no plans for breakfast as our goal was EPCOT food and wine. Once showered and ready, we did some small amount of looping as I pointed out where everyone is or was. Then a stop at the outpost to build our mental shoppng list and pick up some tums.

While looping about I got a message from my DVC guide and stopped over to talk to him by the show cabins. We got some updated info, looked at the new cabins which really are not much differnt then the old ones. Little more modern then restick, yet felt like half the cabins I have ever rented aroun the east coast simulating a bit open view window.

Once done with that it was off to EPCOT, and the bus took what left like an eternity to get to us, stayed at the Wilderness Lodge forever, and took their sweet time getting to EPCOT. Once there we needed to activate Melissa's AP which was an adventure because the line was so long with others on the same plan or those lookign for refunds on thier LL purchases since Gardians was done for hours at that point. (It never reopened Saturday.)

Wait times where insane, but we didn't care as F&W was our goal. First stop we made was in the port for a pair of Remi scavanger hunt and redeem for our prises. (we still did the hunt afterwards, just did not have to redeem later.). We stopped for a photo on the way to the showcase.

1731334724045.jpeg

We then went off towards Mexico with our first stop at Australia for a shrimp skewere (it was nearly 2pm. we where hungry!!!). AFter that it was over to Meixco for a margarita, and we saw the lines to go into the pavillion and chose to just carry on slowly.

1731334781312.jpeg

We made it to China for a Boa Bun and dumplings (one of my favorites). No drink as we stlll had the margarita. While the lines looked long they moved quickly which was nice.

1731334822890.jpeg

We continued on to Alps and Germany where was got some swiss and ham dish, and a ham and cheese strudel like bite and some wines to wash it down. Think the alps line was the longest we waited in the entire day. After that we made our way to Spain for a Charcutery Board and some Sangrial. By this point we are starting to feel a little full so we backed off on the foods.

Italy was of course packed and even the little wine room had a long long line. Being full and a bit tipsy, we chose to get some water and then heard the drummers start over in Japan. So we wandered over there to take in the show. When the show was done I had to get their sour grape cocktail again (think its my favorite this trip) and we got some Waygu sushi along with it.

After that and not having much interest int he next few kiosks we continued on working on our scavanger hunt towards france. Once in France we looked at the wait time for Remi (105 minutes) said no thanks, but we did stop for some Boujulie and an orange slush!

1731335258689.jpeg

We stoppef for a quick waterfront selfie then continued through the shops in England, and onto Canada where somehow we managed to fit in both the filet minion and bacon and cheese soup and some wine (of course) into our stomachs.

1731335675795.jpeg

From there we wandered up to Comunicore Hall for one of the scavanger hunt locations and to get our stamp from Macatizer for a mac and cheese.

Thouroughly stuffed we went back to work showcase to get our desert from Hawaii, the passion fruit cheese cake and our final stamp for the Emil's Fromage Montage and went to collect our special treat. This was a berry and vanilla swirl with some cheese cake!

1731335606195.jpeg

Now that our stomaches where PLEADING that we please stop, we chose to skip Harmonious and finish our scavanger hunt with the last Remi near Misson: Space. Feeling happy we completed it, I took Melissa over to see the new Journey of Water exibit. It really is pretty at night.

1731335802588.jpeg

We wrapped up our night with the only ride we did that day. Spaceship Earth

1731335846834.jpeg

By then we where D. O. N. E. and headed back to the busses. We did catch some of Harmonious while riding the bus back to the fort. We made it to the camper around 9:30pm and pretty much went to bed.

I highly suggest if you do food and wine to share plates, and seriously do not eat till you get there. Even then we both where questioning how we managed to do that other then it took us 6 hours to eat all that food.

I will recap our Sunday adventures later, we are off to get some replacement sun glasses (I broke hers last night rummaging for the keys) and then off to MK for the day. Dinner tonight is Narcoosee's....YUM.

Sunday recap: We did not have as late of a start, though still went with zero alarms. With our early bed time of just after 10pm, we both where moving around 7am. I got some coffee started and got myself showered. While it was Melissa's turn I started to some bisquits and sausage gravy for breakfast. Who could eat after a day of eating....right??? Well I was in the mood and had packed it, plus our plan was off to Hollywood for a couole hours, maybe a few rides and then hop over to MK.

After breakfast we took a few to say hello to Jim and Donna since it looked like they where home. Donna was feeling a bit under so we chatted with Jim for a little before heading out. Once we got to Hollowood RRC was a low wait so I left Melissa to shop while I went solo. Turns out single rider was a 55 minute wait....ugh. Still had a blast.

1731365299746.jpeg

After that we made our way over to toy story which was about 30 minutes for some root'n toot'n shoot'n fun.

1731365319144.jpeg

Due to wait times we decided to skip Slink, another time buddy. We went over to M&MRR and the wait was 50, we decided to wait since we liked it and it was the last ride we where even trying for there. We made it through in cloer to 80 I think.... Still worth it for us.

After our ride we cose to head over to Tune-In lounge. I was hoping thye started to do some appetizers again, sadly not yet but soon. No biggie, I got to say hey to David the bartender who I have talked to over many trips at the tune in lounge.

1731365488900.jpeg

After a very decent drink we started to wander, Melissa wanted to hit up the Christmas shop which we decided to head on over to. Turns out stll closed since COVID, bummer. However, Rizzo is right there so we got a pizza to fill our stomach. After that it was a quick run through Muppets before heading off to the shops on our way to the bus back to FW.

After FW we went to MK and picked up @MrsPAHunter along the way to join us for a bit till she went to her dinner reservation at Wilderness Lodge. We got to ride Pirates together before she had to run and we found a spot to watch Happilly Ever After. We LOVE this fireworks show, the main song was our chosen last dance song at our wedding.

1731365756273.jpeg

After the fireworks we went back to adventure land for a ride on the Jingle Cruise together, at this point wait times were dropping quickly and we kept hitting up rides. Seems when wait times get low enough for Haunted Mansion the wait time becomes 13 minutes. We thought that was kind of unique and fun.

1731366176469.jpeg

After Mansion we pretty much walked onto Peter Pan and it was then that we realized something more is going on up on the stage in front of the castle. We decided to check it out if it was still ongoing after the ride. After we found we had to walk the long way to get back up front, and since we passed Pooh with no wait we decided to stop there, and then I managed to talk Melissa into a riding Space Mountain with me. Not that she hates it, she just usually bows out if I have Lauren to ride with. So we had some fun with the photo....

1731366119528.jpeg

Now pretty much 11 and thinking park is done, they will start to kick us out we headed back to the hub. Only to find they where still doing takes for the holiday special final shot.

So we stuck around for them and got some photo proof we where there for it!

Tired and have had a good time we made our way back to the RV to catch a good nights rest..... More later....its time for dinner resverations.

I have not been posting during this trip as we were totally thrown off because of having to switch gears from rv to hotel. So glad we were able to pull it off and a big shout out to @Bishoparc & @Teamubr for getting us in and helping us get set up at The Fort. It was great seeing all and meeting new people. With DD and new husband being there and DS and gf (she has never been) we did lots of running. Hopefully next trip will be less chaotic. Looking to maybe do another Gatlinburg trip next summer if anyone is interested. God Bless everyone

We got home about two hours ago. 11/10 we made it from WDW to the TN/KY border, fighting rain and the ATL, Chattanooga, and Nashville traffic (albeit they we all pretty light, thankfully). Then up early this morning and the rest of the way home. 1200 miles doesn't fit well in 2 days, but it was worth the pain to see everyone.

I'll write up a summary post of our time with pics when I can see straight.

Great to see everyone.

I’mmmmmm backkkkk!
Checked in early this AM for a final two weeks.
—copying @bama_ed, I arrived pretty early, pre-8 AM, hoping to solidify my chances of getting a great 1500 loop …guess what… I couldn’t get 1500 loop at al!!! the entire loop is being blocked off at some point in the two week period for a group… Fair enough
So, 2000 loop it will be…. no sites available as yet they said they would call… Turned out they were gonna give me one of those right by the road. I asked for the same spot I had last week cause it was an noce enough site, & empty. They checked and came back with a “no,sorry”. There’s a group coming in the day before I go and taking most of that canal side …. good grief!!!
Bless Eddie at the front desk, though, he told them this also happened to her for 1500 loop request… and they worked a bit of magic and I’m in the same site I was in last week! Set up again And even a few strings of Christmas lights this time.

I’m enjoying reading the reports of others, especially put a face to the words!… For me it’s an early rise to try to do a rope drop in the morning at Magic Kingdom and activate my annual pass… I figure 5:30 AM is early enough? Lol lol… Hoping lol.

THAT was a LOT of eating... I think I got a stomach ache just from the read...:crazy2:

We then went off towards Mexico with our first stop at Australia for a shrimp skewer (it was nearly 2pm. we where hungry!!!).

I saw that skewer and it was big and looked delicious!

That doesn't surprise me. Since the group camping area (Creekside Meadow) on the far side of loop 2000 is closed because of all the construction traffic on that road, they have to put groups in 2000 and 1500 (and even when Creekside Meadow was operating, they still at times had to overflow into 2000 AND 1500 - it happened when I was in 2000).

But the moral of your story, @WalkingintheFog , is that BECAUSE you showed up early and negotiated kindly, you received at least SOME Disney pixie dust. If you'd waited till, say, after lunch to arrive, they might have given that pixie dust to somebody else who arrived before you and you would have been stuck in that site along the road (listening to the busses drive by early in the morning and late into the night while you tried to sleep).

I'm glad that Jack and Joe also made it home safely.

THAT was a LOT of eating... I think I got a stomach ache just from the read...:crazy2:

Yes, thankfully when its two people, lots of walking around and taking in each pavilion, meeting random people we shared tables with it was a little much, though not too horrible.

@bama_ed it was a bit big, yet DELIOCIOUS and since we stuck with only liquids for our Mexico stop it worked for us.

Monday recap: Today was planned for MK all day and dinner at Narcoosee's and then watch the holiday fireworks from the DVC lounge at Bay Lake if time allowed. After a late night and getting to sleep after midnight we agreed no alarms.

We still woke up in the 7s fully rested and mostly ready for our day ahead. It started with me making us a couple bacon egg and cheese sandwhiches. Fueled up for the day it was off to the outpost to pick up a new pair of sunglasses for Melissa. In searching for the keys I took her already slightly cracked pair and made sure then where good and broken....whoops.

Once a festive vacation pair of sun glasses was procured it was off to the boat launch to our favorite park and ready to soak in some warm Disney Christmas magic. We found out that if Melissa carried the back pack through the scanner she would get pulled into the inspection line, while I could walk through it with the same bag and items and NEVER got stopped. Once in we B lined it for some pictures.

1731441396202.jpeg

Don't those new sunglasses look amazing????? Once inside we stopped for a quick sarinade from the Dapper Dan's as they rolled by.

1731441482980.jpeg

We took a quick check of wait times and thought, lets get Mine Train done and it was only a 40 minute wait at the time. So it was off and through the castle which looked so different without all the extra trees and the red tinsle drape over the door. We had a blast on mine trane and of course I had ot be my normal goofy self and was still holding my AX as we marched with the 7 dwarfs....

1731441650736.jpeg

From there it was around back for a cold refreshing La Fuo's Brew....and I suckered myself into one of those sugar bombs they call a Creme Brulee Croissant....it was sooo good and so bad at the same time.

1731441850791.jpeg

Right about that time we got a message from @MrsPAHunter she was on her way to MK and asked us where we are. We had her meet us at Carousel of Progress which is Melissa's favorite ride there. We enjoyed it and Melissa pointed out something neither of us ever thought of before. In the first scene there is a little girl helping with the wash. She is not the daughter, and we never see her again.....questions are raised!!! Jenn pointed out that the timeline is a bit of a streach these days. Melissa and I where talking about it later that day and thing thye should roll that one back to the older scene of the late 80's/90's. And I suggested they build a second story and call it "Another Story" which tracks the family as they pass through the Melennium and into the future.....I really should sell them this idea..

After carousel I joined Jenn on Tron since the wait time we pretty reasonable and she had not been on the ride yet. Once again, I had to have my fun for the camera....

1731442171142.jpeg1731442191294.jpeg

After tron our plan was another run on Haunted Mansion as that was about the time we had left. On our way there Melissa and I stopped at the Ye Ole Christmas store for a few trinkets.

1731442309379.jpeg

All of us being a little hungry we stopped at Columbia Harbor house for some late lunch and then it was off to Haunted Mansion in hopes that unlike the previous night when we got someone elsees photos that this time we would get our own. Instead we got none....seems that system was down. At this point Melissa and I where out of time and planning to shower up for our dinner out...

We had a nice cruise back home in the waning sunlight.
