just wondering if anyone else already had thiers pruned and if anyone else was doing cuttings already:) didnt do any cuttings on mine yet for my self, but three other people have stopped to get cuttings from my old style pink that my granny rescued from an old civil war era plantation about 40 years ago, and we have 2 bushes thatwe grew from cuttings off of when we moved here. most of ours are hybrids and dont propogate well, have 2 old fashioned rose bushes that i do cutting every year and then friends seemto claim all the plants:) this year a customer gave me about 20 limbs off of an old fashioned rose she has had for years and i ended up with about 30 cuttings in the dirt out of those, couldnt resist after the 70 degree weather earlier in the week, had to get my hands dirty:p now to prune out my ferns, ( hoping they havent died over the winter, prune a few more of the roses here, and get cuttings in the ground off my semi climbing pink, most of my jonquills and snow bells will be in bloom by next week, my tulipos are up and looking good, daisys are starting to take off, my mumsare all starting to poke thier heads out and green up..... begining to look like spring:) keep wanyting to check my rose of sharon bushes and the plum trees for green,,, but i know its still to early, still havent fixed the drainage problems in the back yard, but the kids are already in line to help spread sand under the deck. was out there yesterday and started laying out where the beds are going to go:) Is ready for yard time, only thing is,, when i start iun the yard... i wont have time to dis:)

I had done the pruning part, but my husband does the cuttings and since he was sleeping, I had tossed those branches. Our rose bush grows really fast, so I will have him do some cuttings during the next round.

It's way too cold here in the NE to do anything but dream about the warm weather. My roses look awful sticking out of the snow.
I think it's wonderful that you can propigate roses. I have had very little success rooting them. The civil war rose sounds lovely. Do you have pics of it? That must be exciting when it's in bloom. Does it have a strong scent?

Here in snowy RI, roses are still pretty much a far away dream :(
I was able to see bare grass for a couple of days, that was pretty exciting!

the only pic i have of the civil wr era rose is the one i posted with the christmas lights,,lol,, it blooms from march till after frost, this yera early dec we still had roses. i think i might find it in an old pic or two, will look and try and find them

I pruned all of my roses last week but haven't fertilized yet. They are all starting to sprout. I've tried rose cuttings a couple of times and never had any luck.

Thanks for posting the pic. I like the way you did your lights. Is that your driveway? Must be so nice to drive up to roses in bloom. Pretty pink & huge. Must be healthy. I thought the old ones weren't as healthy. That is so cool, a bit of history in bloom!

yeah deb thats the drtiveway, we have another old fashioned semi climder on the oposite side, but its a young bush ( year before last cutting) and doesnt hold the blooms as long yet,,,,we jhave about 20 rose bushes in that bed next to the drive.

Froggy, that rose is beautiful. I love the shade of pink. I also like the way you have the driveway lit.

i'm debateing taking out my rose bed and rebuilding it this year, its sinking, and i am wawnting to ad d sand to the soil to raise it up a few inches, but my main concern is damging that rose by digging up the area around it.
