Rose and Crown or Brown Derby?

Our ADR window is getting ready to open and I’m trying to decide which restaurant to choose for a special meal for me and my fiancé. We are either going to elope before or during this trip, so it will essentially be our honeymoon. It’s his first time at Disney World, and though I’ve been many times, I’ve never tried either restaurant and I want to try something new.

We like both restaurants but Brown Derby is a bit fancier and would be a better choice for a special meal. I also recommend Monsieur Paul in Epcot.

These are two different experiences, IMO. I haven't been to the Brown Derby in many years, but it is considered "signature" dining and many continue to rave over the quality of the food and service. The last time we were at Rose & Crown was January, and the food there continues to be very good for us, and sitting outside can be nice depending on the weather. For a honeymoon, I'd have to say the Brown Derby might be more appropriate for your special occasion.

Out of those two I say Hollywood Brown Derby. We really didn't like the Rose and Crown that much and it was pretty noisy. There are a lot of restaurants in WDW to choose from. Good luck and congratulations!! Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two totally different retaurants and experiences. If you are looking for something more upscale, then Brown Derby is much better.
Other places for special meals that we like: Jiko, California Grill, Monsieur Paul at EPCOT. All would be very good for your special dinner.

Brown Derby has much better food. If you are looking for something special in the EP/DHS area, you may also want to consider Monsieur Paul. Great food, quiet, romantic atmosphere.

While Rose and Crown is perfectly good, Brown Derby is a much more special experience. It is a must do for us every trip for the food, service and atmosphere, and I think it would make a more memorable honeymoon meal... to us it always feels like a special little oasis in the parks.

I know most people so far are saying Brown Derby, but after several visits to both over the years, I've received consistently great service with a friendly attitude at Rose and Crown, while some servers at Brown Derby brought the wrong items, and service I received there was not as stellar nor as friendly. Also I currently prefer the menu items at Rose and Crown, so I'd go for that one. YMMV.

Personally I would go for R&C during Illuminations, if you get a patio seat you will be able to see the show from your table, and if you are seated inside they have an area for their guests to view the show from. We have only been to Brown Derby once, it was fine but not that memorable, we do like the outdoor lounge at BD, but that's even less upscale than R&C. Have a great trip!

I've never been to Brown Derby, but Rose and Crown is a must do for my family every vacation. We've been going there for a decade and they've never failed to please us. I'm sure you may have heard about Disney CM service quality going down; however, at RC the service is impeccable every time....has that old-school Disney CM magic. I personally enjoy the food especially since there isn't British food where I'm from. The most spectacular part of their restaurant is the phenomenal view of Illuminations from their outdoor patio. Even if you aren't seated outside they will take you to their private standing viewing area.

Rose & Crown, consistently a favorite, never disappoints. And if you can get the res. what would be more romantic and special than to share Illumination together. Brown Derby equally delivers, but with a more upscale cuisine. Another option, Cal Grill, the food is also more upscale and if also timed well, can be enjoyed with MK’s fireworks. Few venues at DW offer quiet meals, Victoria & Alberts probably, but at a high premium. All depends on what would make it special for the 2 of you. Congrats & best of luck.

Brown Derby serves really good quality food, and the old Hollywood actors walking around stopping at the tables make it fun. They also have a great drink menu.

Congratulations! It depends on the "vibe" you want for your celebration. We have been to both restaurants several times each and enjoy them- great choices. However the "feel" is different between them. Ask yourself these questions: 1. do you want to celebrate at a pub or fine dining restaurant? 2. do you want your servers dressed in British costumes or formal black and white attire? In my experience, you can get a wonderful meal at both places... I've had one of the most delicious steaks at R&C as well as dessert... but it is pub casual. I've had wonderful dinners at the BD, too... but the vibe is more old Hollywood chic. Your decision might also depend on proximity... will you be at HS or Epcot? Regardless, enjoy... and have a magic experience.

As others have said, Brown Derby has much more of an upscale feel to it (well as upscale as you can get in one of the theme parks anyway) and I think the menu feels much more upscale as well. With that said we have always had outstanding service at Rose and Crown while our service at Brown Derby has always been "fine." I would still choose Brown Derby for what you are looking for though.
