I'm just curious. How many of you try to maximize your points by staying at a DVC only Sun-Thu and elsewhere on Fri and Sat nights?

Many have reported doing that...it's a fairly common thing here.

Equally common, I'd say, is for people like us who hate to move on vacation and go ahead and stay through the weekend.

We are in the process of purchasing a DVC resale. One of the reasons we decided on a resale was so we could afford more points and not have to move during our vaction.

I just closed on my resale last month but I have no intention of staying weeknights on points and weekends on cash. I intentionally got enough points so I wouldn't have to worry about it. I really think of it more of pointe per stay, than points per night.

Fri and Sat night points are my excuse to try out the resorts I haven't stayed in yet!!! We unpack only one bag for the two nights and don't mind moving the one time.

Yeah we are doing the same thing our first trip home. It wasn't by choice though and actually it isn't a weekend night we are staying offDVC but since DH could not make his mind up we lost the 11 month window...yes I want to punch him and see this may be a problem for our family in the future if he can't get with it. But I do think we may pay cash and save points I am still not sure. It woud be nice not to pay any $$ on accomodations :) (apart from what we already did I mean)

We have started doing that last year... (We still stay on points, but will usually move on the weekends to a different resort to experience something new.)

No, we don't change resorts or use cash to avoid the weekend point penalty

I've used cash for Friday and/or Saturday nights to save points. I really don't want to commit to extra points. We don't move, we stay in the same room. I got an AP rate of $301 incl tax for a Friday night last month (OKW 1BR). It would have been 48 points, so that was the equivalent of $6.27 a point, about the same as maintenance + the initial cost of points spread out.

There are plenty of situations at resorts where the prices go up for a room on Friday and Saturday nights, I don't have a problem with that, it usually is like $230 weeknight to say $300 weekend, but at OKW if it were cash it would be like $200 weeknight $700 weekend, that is a stretch for me. I just will not pay that much more for the same room. These money examples are just made up to show the big difference in the cost of points. I just will not do it, well I did stay one night on the weekend. On the other hand I have rented two rooms at two different spots on Sunday so I won't be "left out in the cold", so go figure.

Since we live in New York, our week long stays usually take in two weekends. One weekend we usually stay at Universal at the Hard Rock and then move to 7 nights at a DVC in a 2BR. So yes we stay weekends but usually only one per trip.

We don't move and don't plan to . It is too much trouble to be homeless for the day while we are waiting for the other place to have our room ready. Plus you have to pack everything up and it isn't even time to go home yet.

As long as DS (15) is still vacationing with us, we will be spending the weekends at USF/IOA, then checking into DVC on Sundays. We did purchase just enough points to stay Sat - Fri during the off season (if we need a 2 br). I also LOVE !! AKL, so I know I'll want to spend some weekends there and then move - another plus, - if we only stay Sun - Fri there are enough points for a second "mini" trip each year !!!:smooth:

As I am from the UK I am going for 3 weeks in October. Also being new to DVC I am trying out as many resorts as I can....so we are staying in three in Oct SSR, BCV and OKW/BWV ( on a waitlist for BWV) !!!

We are therefore going to Universal at the Weekends as I like FOTL access. I guess I will be an expert at packing by the end of it !! but I am so excited at the chance of trying out 3 resorts.

We will do the same next year in August. I am hoping to buy an add on / resale so it will be nice to see which one to go for.

There is only myself and my two DS aged 5 and 8 so it will be easy to move ( hopefully ) I guess with a big family it could be a bit of a bore to keep moving resorts.

That though is the beauty of DVC...the flexibilty!!

If you move to a Disney resort like we are probably doing, if the waitlist does not come through, they will take your luggage for you from SSR to any other Disney resort. That is really awesome. We never really unpack at our room. Normally we live out of the suitcase since the o0ne time we unpacked DH lost some clothes because he left them in the drawers. One of the items was his suit (dh usually only has one since he is an electrician). SO from then on we just hang up what needs to be hung and the rest stays in the suitcase. So packing up isn't as big of a deal as it could be for others :)

So far, our DVC trips have been 6 or 7 nights, and we don't want to move from one place to another - that's why we bought enough points to do what we want.

As for leaving clothes behind: DW can't relax until the suitcases are unpacked; when we get ready to go, it's my job to go through and do the "drawer / closet / under.the.bed / bathroom check".
