Room Service Timing?

Hello -just curious if anyone can speak to how long it takes to receive a room service order on the Dream? Sorry if this is a goofy question... but on our last cruise (not DCL) it would take over an hour for it to arrive, and if that is typical cruise timing I'll plan to order the kids milk and cookies waaaay before bedtime. :) Thank you!

We were on the Dream last week and were always quoted "30 minutes or less". I don't remember a single order taking more than 20 minutes.

ETA:. We only ordered in the mid- to late- afternoon timeframe.

It seems to me that this is something that could be incredibly diverse in possible times. It really would depend on how many other people have ordered room service at the same time that you have. If it's no one, I would guess the order could come really quickly. However, if lots of other people have ordered at a similar time, it would take longer. We don't use a lot of room service, but I can't remember either voyage on the Dream seeming especially long.

Same here. We've never waited an hour, but maybe it was the timing or more people on that cruise ordered room service. The longest we've had to wait was for dinner -- and that was about 30 minutes.

Timing of the order is very important. That's why I had the after-thought to add a comment on when we were ordering. The order that took the longest was after we reboarded on Castaway Cay day. We got back on the ship a little after 3:00 and ordered almost immediately. That one definitely took 20 minutes. We had some other orders that were at our room probably 10 minutes after ordering. But then again, those were the orders for just Mickey bars.

There is only one time I remember waiting an hour it was mid afternoon when everyone was coming back onboard from a port day and I guess we all had the same idea to call for room service, all other times was 30 or less.

My favorite room service order is the afternoon after a port day when you can't wait any longer to eat LOL. We love to get some cheese platters, a salad and a couple of sandwiches to hold us over, and eat on our balcony while we watch everyone return.

Edited to add: No matter how long the wait, at least you are not on NCL where they are now charging $7.95 for room service delivery :rolleyes2

Thank you everyone, even up to half an hour doesn't sound bad at all, and I'll keep in mind the times of day.

Seriously?! Wow. I won't worry that much about wait time since it's free! ;)

What kind of cookies can you get?
Big Island Cookies are large choc. chip cookies, and there are oatmeal cookies (regular size).

The wait for room service is going to depend a lot on how many others have ordered also. There is a finite number of servers to take care of the whole ship.

I believe I read that you can place a standing order for room service? For example-- cookies and milk every night at 8:30pm, please!

Experienced cruisers will correct me if that's not the case, but perhaps try speaking with room service about this option once onboard?

My cousin just left on NCL, Saturday to Bermuda. She told me about the charging.... holy moly that's a lot of money for the service and a tip on top. I think that's a bit much.

I believe when they implemented the room service charge, they also added a rule that says you can't take food out of other dining areas. IE can't go to the buffet and take a plate back to your room.

Just another reason to appreciate Disney. I enjoy going to Cabanas and getting breakfast to bring back to the cabin, since room service breakfast is only cold items.

Of course, but one would hope that DCL was aware of the patterns of when people generally order room service and would staff the room service kitchen and delivery staff accordingly.

Yeah, that new "rule" blew up in their faces and they changed it back. People were doing it because of the room service charge -- so who can blame them. But you are allowed to take food from the buffet now. The article I read said that the crew are going to suffer tips since people will be less likely to tip them when they bring the food because of the upcharge. That is a shame. I think if you order a basic continental breakfast you are not charged. This new CEO must be trying to destroy their business since their customer ratings right now are the lowest they have ever been. Oh well -- we'll make the most of it. Luckily I earned a lot of OBC with with credit card, so we'll just chip away at that and when it's gone, they don't get any more of our money LOL
