Room service and tipping.....

Ok... I'm trying to get this correct. This morning I prepaid my gratuities through my TA. I paid a total of $192 for four night/four people. I assumed that this would go to the waiters and the room cleaning/service. Who is it that I need to tip aside from the standard 12 bucks a day. Now I'm soo confused.

That money goes to 4 specific people for the service they provide you during your trip. The person who brings you the room service item is not these people. We always tip a couple of dollars when they bring us our morning coffee. You may see a different person each time. My first cruise I hadn't realized this service existed. We felt terrible the first morning as we didn't have any small bills, so my husband went to guest relations and broke some bills so we were prepared the next time.

Last year we tip dollars wrapped around a Hershey bar. So I've got tipping covered. What is the All Hands On Deck Platter?

From the Room Service Menu:

ALL HANDS ON DECK A special selection of international cheeses served with crackers.

Really??? Get the All-Hands-On-Deck-Platter and the 4-cheese pizza. This is great to go along a glass of wine while we get ready for the show (we do 2nd seating). BTW, if you bring your own bottle, they will gladly give you wine glasses and a bottle opener as well. I try to get about a dollar an item. Remember that sodas (they come in cans) and snacks are not free.

What are examples of "snacks" that are not free? Are the Mickey bars free?
Thanks :)

Snacks that have a charge, available from room service, and outside the theatres: Chips, candy, nuts. Basically, packaged snack foods. Popcorn used to have a charge, although I've read recently that there is no charge now. Can't confirm that.

Mickey bars (from room service and in the MDRs) are included in your cruisefare.

Thanks. Are any of these snacks free at other places on the ship (ie., not room service or outside theatre)? Or you can only get chips, candy, bars, etc by buying them?

We've gotten things like chips (tortilla, potato) at some of the late night snacks in the adult lounges onboard. You can see (center back of this picture) the little glass covered food display in the Promenade Lounge here:

Diversions also had a big late night snack bar with hot dogs, chips & salsa, veggies.

We've gotten a little container of nuts in the Piano bars on the Magic & Wonder.

And I think I remember that my sandwich from room service came with a bag of chips (I could be wrong).

But, basically, if you just get packaged snacks, you pay for them.

We tipped $1/item.

I also recommend the All Hands on Deck platter. It was the perfect snack for our family after we got back from Castaway Cay. We hung out in the room, took turns showering while we ate the platter and watched "The Jungle Book." Strangely, a really fun memory for me!

OK... you have me curious. I'll have to try it!

Thanks..
