Room only - magic bands or keys?

We booked a room only rate at the BC, will they give us magic bands, or room keys to get into the pool? If it's magic bands, do they scan them so you can get into the pool? I'm assuming so, or anyone with a magic band could use the pool.

When we stayed we had MBs & they scanned them for entrance to SAB.

So you had MB's with tickets on them, or did they just give them to you to use as a room key with no tickets attached?

No we ordered them online through MDE & thereby our tickets etc were all linked.

With Room Only you get new bands. Had this in May.

We already had bands for from our last trip with out APs on so got new ones again, this was before you could say you don't need them.

Yes, you do get magic bands with all reservations, whether they're packages or room-only. If you purchase tickets separately, you just link them to your magic bands yourself.

What if you are just staying at the hotel, and not going to the parks, therefore have no tickets? Do they still give out room keys?

You still get a Band

There is no such thing as a room key. They haven't used keys for over a decade. Before the advent of magic bands, resort guests used a card for room access. These have been replaced by the magic band. All guests ( whether they have a room only or a package) receive a free magic band. The magic band simply allows access to your room and any other elements in your MDE account, which includes tickets, dining plan and charging privileges.

They still have the ability to generate key cards, but apparently will do so only under extraordinary circumstances (your band doesn't work, etc.).

You'll get a band. Resort stay generates a band, not tickets.
Our experience is they scan your band at the entrance to SAB and give you a wrist band (like those at the MK parties) and that is what prevents you from having to scan your MB every time you come/go
