Room only discount code club

I'm sick and tired of waiting, I have to make dining reservations, make ressies for my dog for a vacation villa at Best Friends and these things all depend on a room only discount, I can afford rack rate but I'm not silly enough to pay it as rooms are way over priced
($400-$500 per night at the Poly is ridiculous) by the time discounts come out I'll have to eat at a food court somewhere and board my dog elsewhere instead of Best Friends. Sorry just had to vent, does anyone agree?

No. If you can afford it and you want to go, go. That's what I am doing. Life passes by too quickly or one day it is unexpectedly gone. Make memories, have fun with your family. Enjoy.. :goodvibes

Well, that's a good point. And that's where I am at right now. We're going, and I'm still debating whether to keep my WL reservation or look to something in the Disney Village. But, there's no chance that I won't go. I just sure hope I'll be able to swing something "on property" this time! I did All Star Vacation Homes in April, which was nice, but I missed being on property.

Couldn't agree more. Yes, the rooms are over priced at rack rate. Yes, and given my history, Disney does know that I will go and stick with the resort I have now whether I get an RO discount or not. The only difference will be that I will go elsewhere next year.

I'm very happy for those who have received pins or upgrades (and I am one who does have a discount on an upcoming trip) but when I see how many faithful families who go every year and are being left out or at least strung along waiting for the RO discount which may or may not be coming, well, I am just tired of these little mind games that Disney seems to be playing this year and I really do feel like taking my marbles and going home.... or at least, maybe not home, but next year, I think I hear an island calling me for my 2012 fall vacation!

Oh, I got some mixed feelings now!

On the plus side, I got a direct promo email from Disney Destinations. Unfortunately, it's for Free Dining, but I'll hold out hope on some room movement.

On the minus side, I noticed that the dates were shifted from the original Free Dining offer. Seems like the dates we are there are no longer eligible for Free Dining - makes me worried that my dates are looking more robust and might not get a PIN deal!

We are a go every 3 years to Disney and have been planning this trip since
i found out I was pregnant. We are going no matter what, but a discount would be nice. My budget of $5000 is pretty much at it's limit so a nice discount would give me some wiggle room for some extras and spending money.

I am glad I was too much of a newbie to plan my vacation without discounts...
Disney is expensive in general. I don't think one should ever EXPECT a discount and then be upset when they don't get one. :confused3

I would never book something I couldn't afford... only causing stress and anxiety.

Ok, so DH and I have caved into the Free Dining offer. I'm having our travel agent check to see if it's available for our travel dates.

My thinking was we were willing to pay rack rate anyway, so why not save some $$ and get free food. And who knows when RO discounts will come out...

Fortunately I did not book something I could not afford at rack rate. And yes, I totally understand what you are saying regarding being a newbie...years ago I was happy to book my vacation totally oblivious to the fact that the person in the room next to me might be paying thousands of dollars less than I. But now, after the many years that I have been aware of Disney's yearly discount offerings, to have them suddenly stop, I am not happy about it.

For every two people who return to WDW each year, there is one new person who has never been. If you don't go back, you will be replaced and Disney will not miss a beat. Disney is not a mom and pop storefront that will be affected by the loss of one family's business. They will keep moving along. But if you truly enjoy WDW and its offerings, have the mindset that the price online is the price you pay and there are no guarantees of discounts at any time for any one. By now, we all know the dates Disney likes to discount. It's caveat emptor if you book during the blackout periods. Go to the island next year if you want, but although I'm sure it will be a lot more relaxing, I doubt it will be any less expensive and certainly a lot less fun.

You mean Disney won't miss me??? (lol) My self esteem is shattered....:sad1:

It isn't necessarily about being able to afford it though... Sometimes it is about bang for the buck. And the reason so many of us expect discounts is because Disney has offered them practically year round for the last decade or so... and raised their rack rates accordingly (Poly rack rate has nearly doubled since '04, for example, and is $200 per night more than the much more luxurious Waldorf at Bonnet Creek).

Disney created this dynamic - rack rate at their resorts is like suggested retail for consumer goods or sticker price on a car, something that only the least savvy/least informed guests pay. And while they might like to get away from that dynamic it isn't going to happen overnight, particularly in a weak economy and with their product priced so significantly above the competition.

Our travel dates don't qualify for FD, so we're back on board with waiting for a room only discount! ;)

Rejoining the group! :grouphug:

Any new release date rumors?? Still just early September?

Is it at all likely that the GP room-only discount won't come out at all?

I agree with this. And even if people aren't "expecting" a discount per se I think sometimes they set up unrealistic expectations. Regardless of what you're paying, no one wants to be disappointed on their vacation. We all want to feel like we got value for our money. For me, i'd rather plan for the worst and then feel like I got pixie dust when things do work out.

We're going regardless too -- air and F&W are booked. Just need the resort. But this one is a bonus trip, totally unplanned, very strict budget. So if the discount doesn't work for us, we'll stay at a resort we can afford. Not off property, just off the boardwalk. My resort choice list is about 7 or 8 deep right now. And if by some minor miracle we end up at BC, then it will be that much more awesome. :cloud9:

Don't you guys think maybe they were waiting for the Aug/Sept free dining offer to close?

The two have not been related in the past but who knows. I think generally they are delaying public discounts and putting out more super-targeted pins. I suspect this is a new approach we will see a lot.

The targeted upsell pins are really quite genius. They send them to people booked at Values and Mods during full periods. Get them to upgrade to a Deluxe. Then they sell the original room to someone else.

*lol* Well, we'll certainly miss you here. ;)

For us right now, Disney really is the most fun we can have at the best price. When DSis first got sick we decided to take a big trip. We looked at a number of different options both in the US and outside the country. It was no contest.

Of course i'm sure that will change over time. This will be our third trip (two short and one long) in a year. Prior to that I hadn't been since I was a kid. Next year we'll go once -- for Christmas (first time for the in-laws). After that we may make some short F&W trips but our next big vacation will be Hawaii 2015 for our 20th Anniversary (we went there for our 10th). Of course, I already know where we'll be staying in Hawaii this time around. :goodvibes

I really don't think that's likely. When the quarterly earnings report came out they said they would continue to offer fall discounts as always.

No new news but that's not necessarily bad. Typically the firm rumors start to come out when Disney offers overtime for the call center. Which usually doesn't happen until a couple days in advance. Best case scenario -- discounts come out on Thurs, Sept 1; we probably wouldn't hear about it until early next week. Any rumors hear before then are likely to be as unreliable as the ones that said Aug 13.

Disney is comparable to any other vacation. It seems expensive, but it's so worth it to be able to relax and everyone having a great time.

Ahhh, you made feel wanted once again..:grouphug: Seriously though, I do know that my taking time off from Disney will not affect them in the least, but I also know that my $$$$ will being going elsewhere and to me, I am taking a miniscule stand, for what it's worth.

And...the method behind my madness (or should I say the madness behind my method) is that with these new targeted discounts, perhaps when the computer notices a once faithful visitor has left the building, perhaps those pins will start showing up once more???:teacher:
