Room noise levels

My wife and I are debating between Port Orleans Riverside, Art of Animation, and Pop Century for a late Sept 2020 trip. Our top priority is a quiet night’s sleep for us and our kids, who are sometimes light sleepers when on vacation.

We haven’t stayed at any of these three resorts - is there a significant difference in nighttime noise heard inside the rooms between these three choices?

Thanks in advance!

In our experience having stayed at all 3, the only difference will be how courteous the guests that you have around you are. It's the luck of the draw. Unless you're thinking of a Family Suite at Art of Animation as those have interior hallways which we find to be louder than when the room door opens to the outside.

Not always the resort but where your room is. Top floor is always the best if you don’t mind the stairs. You have no one above you jumping around on the floor. We have stayed at Pop many times and haven’t had any noise problems.

POR would be my choice from that list. Given the layout of the buildings you are more likely to get an end unit than you are in the others, that eliminates some of the chances of noise! That said, the most noise we ever had was a DVC Wilderness Lodge Villa! haha so I guess its all the luck of the draw!

I agree, completely up to your neighbors. I've heard absolutely nothing, to nightly tickle fests to keep the kids squealing & laughing til midnight.

I recommend the trifecta of a good nights sleep:

1) mild over the counter sleeping pill
2) eye mask cover
3) ear plugs &/or white noise app (or pack a fan)

Really play with the white noise app before you go. You'll find what works best for you & at what level. I've had situations where my app is at full volume, but it does work.

AoA is the loudest resort I've ever stayed in. POR one of the quietest. That being said, I agree with PP's. It all depends on your neighbors.

Well, I have never heard of a quiets night sleep in any resort...let alone one filled with kids.. We just know going on vacation, particularly WDW or DLR Its not going to be quiet until at least 0200 then a lot of folks back up at 0600. ish.
Honestly, Alligator Bayou i suppose is the quietest. at POR I think that's probably the quietest. Just due to the design of the resort.

It’s all about the neighbors around you. Top floor means no one above you to make noise, but there may be noise from next to you or below you. Get the kids used to ear plugs and bring a sound machine. Every hotel we’ve stayed at has had noise from neighbors, even deluxes.

I agree that it depends on your neighbors. I stayed at AoA in a Little Mermaid room and it was very quiet. I've actually never had a stay at disney where noise from other guests kept us up at night, and I am a very light sleeper. Of the resorts you mentioned I would think POR might be quietest but you just never know.

I agree, it all depends on the neighbors. I've had value rooms that were very quiet, and moderate and deluxe rooms that were loud.

For a quiet room I ask for a top floor facing away from any nearby pool.

I'd also recommend staying away from the pool. The pool does have set hours which shouldn't be when you'd be sleeping, but I've also experienced kids/families at the pool as early as 7a and adults at the pool still at 11p.

I would go with POR Alligator Bayou somewhere in the area of Building 39. When we stayed there (many many times pre DVC) we found it to be nice and quiet. Be aware that they don’t have elevators in AB so if you do second floor you are hauling yourselves and your stuff upstairs. The Mansions DO have elevators though.

I don't tend to be a deep sleeper and can have trouble falling asleep on vacations. I've only stayed at POR from that list, but found it to be very quiet at night both times we went. AB is especially quiet. I have had great success with the white noise deep sleep app for iPhone - I use the fan sound. I actually use a normal white noise machine to sleep at home, as well.

We've stayed on arrival night at both Pop and Art of Animation. We heard loud people, were once by a soda machine, and loud ac units. If you're a light sleeper like my husband, you would not like. You could try ear plugs or a sound app as suggested, though.

I haven’t stayed at the values but have stayed at all the moderates. Our loudest stay ever of all our hotel stays was at POR. :confused3 We always request quiet location. They put us on top floor - away from pools. But the noise wasn’t from our neighbours. Our room was located beside a faulty boiler room! There was a constant clanging sound throughout the night. Maintenance couldn’t do anything & that vacation was near Mardi Gras so the resort was full. We just dealt with it. We were at Disney. But I can never convince myself to give POR a try again.;)

As for noisy neighbours - that can happen at any level of resort. Whatever resort you choose - ask for quiet location (whether upper floor or away from pool or away from elevator) - but at the end of the day some things are out of our control.

At home I wake up umpteen times a night, but after a day in the parks, I sleep like the dead at WDW, no matter what resort I stay in. But I do agree with those who suggested a white noise machine or app or a small fan. That constant little drone of noise may help no matter where you go.

From your list, I'd probably go with POR, simply because I think of that resort as being quieter in general.

Good luck!
