My mom is the DVC owner and I am her associate. This will be our first trip "home" to BCV. Mom has congestive heart failure and walking any long distance affects her breathing. I know we might get a chair for the parks, but being proud I know she wants to do without that for the most part. Not having to walk down a long hall would be great. Is there anything she needs to request or tell them? I know it's rather late in the game but I didn't give this much thought before. She doesn't want, nor do we need a handicap unit. What can she tell them, or is it too late to make any request seeing we are going to be there in May? Thanks so much for reading and replying.

Call MS on Monday and explain the situation exactly as you did here. You are not too late to have it added to your reservation that you need a room by the elevator for medical reasons. Now the bad part is that it is still quite a walk from the BC or the bus stop to the BCV. The hallways really aren't that bad there. It may be best to get a chair for the whole time.

My Mom now always rents a scooter from Walker Medical in Orlando. You can contact them by phone and they have it waiting at your hotel when you arrive. You leave it at the hotel upon checkout and they pick it up. The scooters are great because there is so much walking outside the parks, and getting to the parks. At night you plug it in, right in the room, and in the morning it is recharged and ready to go. These scooters can go right on the monorail on the buses, and often on the boats.

Make sure your Mom understands HOW MUCH WALKING is involved at WDW. The scooters are everywhere. No need to feel foolish about using one so as to best enjoy the trip!

I second both calling MS and making the request AND calling Walker to rent a ECV for the whole stay.

We did this when my FIL went with us. He walked a lot the first day and I, being preggo, rode... which was nice... the second day he really felt all the walking he did the first day, and was grateful to the ECV all the time. It gave him the freedom to enjoy the whole resort (OKW) and he loved that....

Getting onto the buses was a bit tricky and most times one of 'the kids' did it, but over all he found it very easy to use... and he got to walk when he wanted... ride when he was tired... and he didnt feel a like a burden and never slowed us down.

Enjoy WDW.....

It is a bit of a hike out to the BC/YC boat launch as well for access to MGM - I would consider a chair for the duration as well and if she does not use it every day bully for her

thanks

We just made our first trip home to BCV last month. My inlaws were there part of the time so we went from a 2BR to 1BR after they left. The 1BR was very near the main entrance elevator and a much shorter walk. I didn't realize how big the BCV was until walking that lonnnng hall every day! MS should be able to accomadate you on a room near the main entrance elevator given your mother's condition.

I hope you and your mom have as much fun as we did!!!

Thanks for the advice and replies. I think I am going to send this thread to her and let her read it herself. Thanks again!
