Room Key Charges - two CCs?

Got a question about room key charges. It seems that my BIL and my wifes SIL (I don't claim her!) might be going with us this Jan. The SIL is stupid (and I am being nice) and doesn't know restraint when it comes to money even though she has never had any.

My question is if we get a grand villa can we dedicate a cc number to a certain number of keys and another cc to the other set? I don't want her to be charging to my cc at all but, since they might be able to put down cash for charges, I can see them doing that. Or, at least, allow them to use one of my 'unimportant' cards for the trip.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

I've never tried it, personally, but this question has been asked on the board a couple of times, and the general consensus appears to be "no."

However - apparently the bill will indicate which key was used to make each charge - so you could break down "who owes what."

I "do know" that the front desk will take payments from multiple sources... So you could, at least, go up maybe the night before you check out, get a print-out, and have them apply the totals (at the time) to the two different cards.

Hope that helps.

While I agree this can be done, BEWARE.
On two separate trips we have paid a portion of our bill with a second credit card. On both occasions that card became the 'card of record', and everything was charged to the new card. It appears that once a new credit card number is entered into the computer, it sees that card only.

Good luck...

Only one card will be entered as the "card of record", but each room ID has a unique number and the statement will reflect that number.

We go to the front desk the evening before and get a print out of our charges and figure up the amount charged to eech key. Instead of accepting the "express checkout", just go to the desk and apply the amounts you want charged to each card based on the room id charges. it works very well and the CM's at the desk are great about assiting with the process. Make sure you don't sign that you want the "express checkout" and let them know you will come to the desk and settle up the account on departure day.

Enjoy!

On our last trip - I wanted to apply everything I could on my Disney Visa Rewards Card, then apply any remaining balance to my Visa.

I went to the front desk the night before check-out, and BEFORE our PS at the California Grill - chCHING - and had them apply the entire balance at the time to my rewards card - taking me to zero.

I gave them instructions to take any future charges and apply them to the rewards card, first, then apply the rest to the Visa. The CM said that she would put some notes in the computer, and that it "could be done," but that those working the accounts (around 4:00 am, or so) may not always read the notes, and to check on it in the morning and make sure it worked.

It worked like a charm - no problems at all.

We expect a trip report on this one!!

Hello: Here's an idea. Use your SIL credit card as the room card and you pay her for what you spend. If she over sends it doesn't affect your credit at all. Or. Don't allow credit prevledges on her room key, just treat her as a kid. Good luck. I like #1 better.

I think this is a good idea. However, if I were in this situatioin, I'd tell everyone to just use their own credit cards for each transaction and would not allow anyone to charge to the room.

Best wishes -

You had the same idea I did, Carol. Why even bother with charging to the room cards? Just use the credit card directly. We like to do that anyway. Less margin for error.

Yes - seems like the small convenience of charging to the room isn't worth risking problems with the OP's wife's family. Sounds like a no win for him, IMHO. I think the OP is "doing his duty" just by agreeing that these "not so favorite" in-laws can stay with them!

Thanks everyone for the input. It looks like I either go without key charges, let them put down cash at the desk, or let them use a limited CC. Let me now answer a few questions/comments posed above... :)

1. SIL won't have a CC in her name. The family isn't well off so they mostly do cash transactions. Its not that I don't trust the BIL if I told him to use the key and we will figure up everything later. I know he will show restraint on the purchases. And he would be too proud to let me pay for everything. At least I think so ;)

2. My wife wants to try and get a OKW GV. I am pushing for 1 2br and 1 1br.... seperation!!!! I hope the wife understands. MIL will be with us and that will be a treat in itself.

3. Its for the kids, for the kids. Honestly, these kids will be lucky to get to go to a local amusement park (Kennywood in Pittsburgh) one or two times in their childhood. My wife and I just want to show some magic to them. Like I said before, I could actually go for paying for everything and then even up at the end if I knew that SIL wouldn't go bonkers with an open CC.

I can see it now. When she is told that they are going to DW and we are taking care of the accomodations, she will try and get her mother and/or sister to go! That's when we have problems in the family.

Edited to say that I just booked a GV for Jan 16 and Jan 18-22. Waitlisted for the GV on the 17th. Studio and 2br for that night right now. I guess my wife won out (again!). ;)

1) Only one credit card can be applied to room charges.
2) It can be changed throughout the stay, but only one at a time.
3) You can decipher charges by the hotel key number.
4) We used to let everyone charge, and just repay at day's end.
5) One year, this got sticky
. . . "it is too bothersome to settle every night"
. . . "let me pay you at breakfast"
. . . "oops, I forgot my wallet in the room, I'll catch ya later"
. . . "darn, I forgot I bought that"
. . . "are you sure that purchase is mine"
. . . "check the receipt, in case we were overcharged"
. . . "did you add my charges up correctly - they seem high"

6) We finally said no more charging to the room (except us)
7) Everyone used their own credit cards in the parks.
8) Has worked out well ever since.
