Hi all -

Apologies for the 101 question - hoping the experts can help - here are the details:

I own both CCV and BWV in Dec UY - same membership #.

I currently have a March 2025 stay booked at CCV using my CCV points but would like to stay at BWV, which is currently available if I use my BWV points.

But I need to use my BWV points for an Aug 2025 stay, booking for that opens in Sept.

Question: Can I book the March 2025 stay using BWV points and then at the 7th month mark (August) go into the existing reservation and change the contract used to CCV or does that risk my losing the room? This way I can save my BWV for the August trip?

TTIA!

Follow-up: I believe I found the answer and it's no. Bummer (even though I understand the reason why)!

Only if the unit is open and available otherwise at 7 months (basically, another unit has to be open at 7 months). You cannot block a unit at 11 months then switch out to other points unless a unit would be there for anyone.

Thank you - I assumed this was the case. I guess my question is that IF the room is available, would I have to book w/ my CCV points and cancel the reservation using my BWV contract vs modifying the BWV reservation to use the CCV contract.

When you book a reservation using the home resort advantage, that contract will remain locked, which means you have to use it first.

At 7 months, if there are any nights at the beginning or end of your trip availabe, you can book those with the CCV points, if you have any left, and then free up the BWV points you used. I have done that many times but I also didn't want/need those points for something else..

So, you may just have to wait until 7 months and hope if you want to guarantee you have your BWV points.

ETA: Now, one thing you can do...its risky, but worth a try, is to book the BWV now, with BWV, and then at 7 months, try with CCV to book new. if it is not available, then you could drop a few nights at a time from BWV, and hope to snag them right back. The risk is a waitlist might grab them...but I have done that too....it took time, but I accomplished what I wanted.

I have a mostly related question I’ve been curious about for some time: if I use VGF points to book at VGF at say 10months for nights 1-5, (assuming same membership number) can I modify the reservation and use my AUL points exactly 7m out from night 1 to book nights 6-7? I assume the answer is no unless the entire reservation is available before I modify?

Technically, you probably shouldn't be able to do that, but IIRC, there have been reports of others being able to do it. If my memory fails me, I'm sure someone will jump in to correct me. In the meantime, my "I think so" will keep your question near the top of the forum. :)

I had a reservation this past May for a 2-bedroom BCV. I booked 7 nights with my BCV points at 11 months. At 7 months + 1 day out, I called in to add 1 night with transferred PVB points (this was when there was a glitch and transferred points were not showing online to book when at 7 months). At 7 months + 2 days, I called again to add 1 night, and again the next day, until I had 10 nights. The only thing I'm not sure of that you bring up is whether the whole stay was available and that's why they let me do that.

I haven’t done this but I have asked MS and was told it would work. Of course, I’ve also been told all sorts of incorrect things by MS so… 🤷‍♀️

As long as nights 6-7 are available at 7 months, yes, you should be able to book them with non-home resort points. You aren't trying to replace the home resort points, you're simply adding on to your reservation. If there are any snafus, I'd call MS. At worst, you might have to wait until 7 months before night 6 and book a separate reservation for those two nights with your AUL points, then chat/email/call MS to note them as a Continuous Stay so you won't have to change rooms.

Yes, just check the AUL contract and it will use the VGf on first, and then finish for the last night with your AUL points.

That seems like a good loop hole to get a head start on other owners trying to get a reservation at 7 months! Good for when you don’t quite have enough home resort points but competition is tough at the 7 month mark, as your home resort booking would block 7 month walkers! Great tip!

I was unable to do this for a VDH stay last summer when I tried to add a couple of nights using SSR points.

So, did you have to make a separate reservation (with its own 7-month booking date) for the additional nights using SSR points? And then ask MS to note it as a Continuing Stay?

I had tested it beforehand and knew it wasn't going to work so I ended up walking a 7 month reservation using SSR points and then trimming the VDH reservation as I had overlapping days. It was annoying but it worked.

It may be because you were trying to modify a DL resort using WDW points? I know that I have had no trouble using other contracts to add nights at 7 months from the start.....
Possibly, but honestly I don't think it should work (if we play by the rules). I shouldn't be able to get a non-home resort until that is "day 1", or in this case day 8 of an existing reservation as days 1-7 were done with the home resort advantage. It to me would be like not grabbing days 1-7 at 7 months but instead being able to get day 8 by itself.
