Rolling backpack update 2/4-2/13/05!!!

Strollers are necessary for people with small children. Rolling backpacks aren't necessary. I don't really care about them since I haven't seen many in the parks since most people carry BACKpacks on their backs. (And to preface what I am about to say I do not aim this at anyone in particular, don't want to start a flame throwing contest but hope I can just express my opinion honestly without starting one ok friends?) I try to teach my kids that rules are in place for a reason. It doesn't mean you have to like it. It seems that no matter WHAT the issue there are always those who think that the rules don't apply to them. No, reusing your mug from last year won't hurt anyone other than make the mug prices go up when enough do it. Sure I can squeeze 6 people in my room at Pop but there are fire codes that say it isn't safe to do. An extra family hopping to the Poly pool shouldn't be any sweat off anyone's back right? Except the lifeguards when it's not just ONE extra family. Rolling backpacks aren't "evil possessions" or anything :earseek: but apparently they have caused some problems in the parks or they wouldn't have the policy against them. I'm sure DW doesn't make rules to tick people off and they obviously aren't making money off of this rule so they must have a reason for it right?

Yeah!!! The Rolling Backpack debate lives on!

Hey, I pay good money to get in the parks too! Maybe next time I'm in the parks I'll just urinate on the sidewalk too. Why should I waste my precious time going to the restroom and following their stupid rules? It doesn't really hurt anyone.

While I tend to understand your point, I disagree that there is no reason to have a roller. Please read the previous threads on it, but it is necessary for some for listed reasons, and I think this is the same reason why you will not see Disney more strictly enforce this rule.

Listen, I totally agree that strollers are needed and it seems moreso than rolling backpacks, but the point is missed. No matter if strollers were required, the point is, it shouldn't be blamed on the strollers for running into people, but rather the people controlling them. I feel the same for backpacks. It's the whole thing with guns........it's really not the gun's fault, it's the fools using them.

I retract my first post that we need to stop posting on this thing.

In fact, I think we should "sticky" Roller threads.

I want to thank you for not flaming me because we may not see eye to eye on this issue - I hate it when discussions turn ugly. You are right it's not the stroller's, the backpack's, or the gun's fault, it's the person using them. The gun issue is far more serious but even in that case, there are states that outlaw owning a gun since they couldn't control what kind of person was going to use one. At WDW, they can't eliminate people whether just distracted or plain rude, they can't eliminate strollers and I'd bet they'd like to if there was an alternative, but there are alternatives to rollers so they CAN exclude them. They may not enforce it but if I know it's their rule I'm not going to bring one but that's just me. As far as someone NEEDING one....I have a bit of a hard time swallowing that. If they need to take medical supplies or meds to the parks they can store them at the first aid station. I think if you opened most of them you'd find they are bringing in food and drinks which if you want some gummy bears and crackers for the kids you don't need a whole suitcase, or extra sweatshirts which are supposed to be kept in the lockers. Sure, convenient to not have to go back to the locker but if you don't expect to walk in WDW???? End of rant. :grouphug:

the grill/cooler............oh, too funny! I howled. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

You know, I will have to agree with the posters about it's not the rolling backpack that hurts people.

Now, I am a rule follower. I can't help it. You see, I'm the one that gets stopped by the police officer the ONE time I decide to speed through a 30 mph zone. I'm telling ya, they see me coming! :moped: It almost makes me paranoid. So if Disney has a rule against them, I'm going to listen. But....................

If I saw one that was handled by a curteous owner, I really don't think I would care. I think there are times when someone needs to bring all that stuff..........who am I to tell them I need to see inside the pack and decide if that stuff is necessary? Obviously, none of us would do that.

But if I had a situation like the above poster with the speeding backpack, well, the least I would expect is an apology, maybe even a :mickeybar . What would be the difference? Not the rolling backpack, but the owner! But maybe that's why WDW had to have a rule against them...too many bad owners. Just like many things.......a few had to ruin it for all.

..just like people who smoke....i have seen many people smoke in whatever area of disney they want...and no cm is walking up to them saying excuse me miss or sir...you need to walk all the way down there..around the corner....and smoke...thank you..have a magical day...
Not true, my SIL was told she was smoking in a non smoking area and told to move.

Then your SIL clearly didn't pay a lot of money to get in the park...she must have used some resident discount.

are you asthmatic??? do you have panic attacks??? perhaps have seizures, perhaps have a mental disorder, severe allergies that if arent caught in seconds your throat is going to close up??? lots of folks who vacation at disney world do have conditions.. like to have the security of knowing there meds are close at hand if something was to happen to them...not all backpacks rolling for that matter are the size of luggage...ours is small..fits on hubbys back just fine...and until someone tells me i cant bring it in the park or otherwise which i dont think they are going to do under my circumstances....we will keep on a rolling....and everyone else who has them i think they should too..because you never know what is in that backpack and maybe they have no choice but to carry one..

Cyndibelle, with those conditons (which I truly am sorry that you have them and I wish you the best) you have extenuating circumstances so I'm sure DW would not have a problem. It's when LOTS of people bring them for unnecessary reasons it becomes a tripping hazard. And I'd bet more than not the people bring them (unlike you) not for valid reasons but just due to laziness. :umbrella:

i am not saying i have all those conditions and god love anyone who does  ..but i do have a few....all i am trying to make people see is ..is that sometimes you dont know the circumstances behind what they bring...or why they are doing what they are ...life is very different for every individual....just everyone live yours and enjoy it to the best...dont be so concerned about silly little things as backpacks...
