Rogue One catch all thread

We agree...and I'm old...so to have me giddy and consciously thinking about this 10 days later is an amazing feet. I think R1 will continue to have more appeal long term...TFA is not poised to...we'll see.

And by the way...I've been falsely accused of being a "skeptic" in the past...so if that were true, would I be so easily be amused?
And I'm not even a die hard Star Wars fan. I saw my first Star Wars movie maybe 4-5 years ago.

And no this won't be a trilogy. It's a stand alone. The sequel to this already exists, it's called episode 4.

Well thats what I was thinking. Just saw that post about Rogue One sequel so wasn't sure. I didn't bother checking the link.

There's no timeline space for a "trilogy"...though you could see another crack at the "interwar" period...can't see two
? I was talking about if Carrie Fisher can't perform they could do CGI to maker her appear in the film. As we now know, they can do CGI well (Tarkin).

I felt like it was 1983 when I came out of it...the kids were amazed too...

I so desperately wanted that in 99...and last year...tried to convince myself last year but I knew right away that they didn't try hard enough. Just call it a damn reboot...don't have Abrams present the best director Oscar as somekind of Disney protest (which they did...check the film)

Like he did something...he spent $250 million dollars building real sets and paying Harrison ford...and recycled the same damn character stories from 1977 to put to the new characters...

Big deal...you don't win the game punting on first down.

Oh I got you...principal photography is done - you would have to think - on 8. How that affects 9 would be the problem...they are not going to cgi a 60 year old fisher into a substantive part in 2 years...that's beyond reasonable goals.

There was talk of actors having sequel classes...but Edwards stated those became moot when they shot the ending the way it is...which they didn't think disney would allow.

In one of the articles I read about her condition currently, it mentioned that she has recently finished her filming for episode 8. It may still change the story/require reshoots..just wanted to put that out there.

Principal photography is complete...so maybe they dodged a bullet with the next movie...but what if she has something for the 9th? There's no way to account for that now

They can use the same technology they used for Rogue One.

Only for cameo type sequences

And let's face it: the most awkward part of the force awakens was fisher and her severe breakdown physically...

I'm not talking age...I'm talking the amount of abuse that left her unable to act/enunciate the lines. It was hard to watch...how do you cgi something that doesn't work?

I feel like TFA was a necessary first step/re-introduction to Star Wars for a mass audience. It was a fun, entertaining movie that left us with questions that are to be answered in the future. Was it flawed? Sure, but not so much that people walked out going, "Well, that was stupid." No, instead, we, the public, were eager to go a second or even third time to see if there were any clues about the future and to enjoy the ride again. And, we were introduced to new characters for the future Star Wars movies.

If they had produced a film like R1 for TFA, would it have captured the imaginations of the younger generation? I tend to think not. I think fewer kids would have gone (if it had the gritty feel of R1) and fewer would have enjoyed it.

I guess @lockedoutlogic, you would argue the entire TFA story needed to be stronger - completely redone. But, I think it accomplished Disney's goal of creating a new generation of SW fans while mostly satisfying the current generation.

Yes...I would argue that...

And even if the reintroduction was needed (remains to be seen)...the adult fan community...ahem...is the economic market that is first and foremost.

The mistakes of the prequels...was that kids determine all the spending. That is true with disney products...but Star Wars is a bit of a different animal. The dad/mom has to like it to really feed this beast. There's a difference between the toys that sell and the toys that dad buys on his own. Big difference.

And a lot of the defense of force awakens..."have to reintroduce to kids" and "it sets the stage for better movies to follow"

Yeah...that's eerily similar to 1999...exactly. Fool me once.

Hopefully the "suck" factor is 100% george lucas on this.

Except the prequels really did suck. I think TFA is very entertaining and I can watch (and have watched) it multiple times. I only watch the prequels for backstory.

I'll give you that...but if 8 is a bland rehash with another attempt to force us to revere Rey and Finn...it's gonna fall flat.

TFA sucked a lot less prior to 12/15...when Gareth Edwards proved that a simple Star Wars fan can come up with a memorable, rewatchable Star Wars movie without ridiculous pretense and holier than thou...

This will be determined when R1 comes out on digital/DVD...frankly. The key factor of Star Wars always is and was that you can't stop watching when it's on...that's what has drove the machine.

Not sure that 7 caused me to "revere" Rey and Finn - it just introduced me to their life stories and left me with questions about how it all fits together and what happens next.

I don't think TFA has to suck because R1 was a great movie. They are two different styles of story writing and film; they can both be loved and appreciated!

I wouldn't stop watching TFA should it be on, and I don't think I'm alone in this. But, I'm more of a casual fan, not a super-fan. I truly believe that Disney making TFA the story it was, and it being a HUGE success, secured the future of the franchise. R1 bumped it up a huge notch, no doubt. But, I know I will never change your mind. ;)

This 100%. My 16 year old brother just went to R1 - and he said "Meh". He found it too drawn out in the beginning - too much story, not enough action. When we were waiting in line to go in the other theatre let out and there were several comments of "not enough Vader", "not enough action" etc..

As my husband said - it's a good SW movie for the adults, to fill in the story. But I highly doubt the overall impression from kids/younger generation will be as good for R1 as TFA. It didn't feel nearly as engaging. My son would probably get through it, he would enjoy the action at the end, but my youngest? No way. She'll never sit through it. And thus - they won't get our money on tickets for the kids, buying the DVD, buting merchandise etc... like they did for TFA.

Honestly...I musta watched different movies...

:rockband:
TFA...and I have watched it twice recently...is really just a reboot. You can find all the 20 year old actors you want...but if you have no other plot lines to use...it doesn't reasonate.

That may be a generational thing. I'm sure 12 years olds like it. But I'm not sure I believe in the generational continuation of Star Wars. The world is different - I don't think you can reboot and have it still be Star Wars. It will become bland to younger generations...and cheapen/fall flat.

They have to try different things...get some cutting edge...go "unsafe"

I wonder what deep story is behind Rey?

Is she a long lost Jedi relative who can balance the universe?
Stashed on a desert planet because the great evil knows she's too powerful to beat?
Her parents killed and she has
To be hidden to fulfill their destiny?
The secret brother/sister/cousin of the torn, conflicted bad guy?

Wow...the possibilities are endless :sad2:

George lucas said it was days of our lives for 7 year olds

Is that still the plan? Cause reboots aren't even quite good enough for that. Maybe snoke is Susan lucci?
