Rogue One catch all thread

I feel like I would have a different feeling toward empire if I had watched it in the theater when it first came out compared to years later when the whole surprise of "Luke I am your father" was ruined by pop culture...

Ha. Definitely. I was 12 when I saw "Empire" in the theatre. I stumbled around for years saying to myself: "It can't be true! He's the baddest of the bad guys - and HE'S LUKE SKYWALKER!!" Honestly, I was waiting for it to be a cruel tease until Obi-Wan confirmed it to Luke in "Jedi." People complain about how clumsy that scene is in Jedi, but trust me, it was absolutely needed for kids like me at the time.

Oh my. That exceeded expectations in our group-by far.

Genius move.

For about 40 years kind of pondered/dreamt of what must have went down in that far away galaxy.

Padme actually died because Palpatine killed her (via the dark side) so he could have Vader as 100% his.

A que to this is that Palpatine knows that Padme is dead but she is light years away...and he wanted her dead.

I...don't...think...so. This sounds like apologetics for GL's crappy story writing. She died of a broken heart, and Anakin is responsible - not Sidious.

I wouldn't call anything "disturbing"...but that's a matter of choice.

The one scene meant to "disturb" was awesome...but it had an almost cartoonish quality to it as well.

There is a lot of what I would describe as "not happy"...so if you have sensitive kids you might want to sneak out on your own and judge it first.

I took my soon to be 9 and just turned 7 and they liked it/want to go back...no nightmares or visible emotional trauma ;)

They also seem to have framed it as Star Wars...not making it part of anything they associated with daily life.

Your call

I'm taking my 4 1/2 year olds. I didn't feel there was anything worse in it than those of the prequels (I feel the prequels are way more violent then the original trilogy. They haven't seen the ending of Ep. III - told them they have to wait).

The couple scenes everyone keeps talking about, I felt were fairly tame compared to anything else in the other movies (ie: Kylo v. Han).

"Episode 2" is on TNT...

I tried to watch 10 minutes...it's disgustingly bad...the dialogue is only bested in its awfulness by the acting and the cgi.

I'm convinced george lucas was just messing with the entire planet...had to be

I can tolerate Ep. II. I absolutely hate Ep. I. Episode III isn't all that bad....it isn't all that good either.

I kind of give Ep. 7 a pass, because I can't even imagine the enormity the entire cast and crew must have felt putting that thing together. Not that its an excuse, but can you imagine? Old meets new? The worry of not being the prequels....yeesh!

This is an interesting article as it pertains to what Hollywood "thinks" is going to Happen...

I'm interested to see how accurate they are...
I'm interested if it can top sing. I think it can beat out the rest of those but sing looks good, has a decent cast and of course is going to play to the families, especially the ones with young kids. Rogue One isn't getting most of those young kids.

Rogue One likely will beat Sing this weekend b/c families usually are the ones to definitely stay home Christmas Eve (and Christmas morning). Sing will have a better shot to top Rogue One New Years weekend (when the reverse happens - adults are at parties and families need something to do)...if Sing does win the weekend, it's bad news for Rogue One or huge news for Sing.

I can't quite explain how much I'm loving this movie...it's insane.

But...I'm really worried about the box office. If it doesnt have solid bank and churn out an extended run of $20 million dollar days and very significant weekends...it's total cume is gonna fall well short of where it SHOULD. Because it's good.

The numbers last year are astonishing...what exactly were we doing? Based on the quality it's the biggest head scratcher since avatar.

And if rogue one does flame out like a fast and the furious...do the brainiacs in Burbank dwarf palace decide that the formula "doesn't work" and this the very LAST good Star Wars we get?

...there haven't been THAT many so far.

So we just got home from watching it, and while it was good, we both preferred TFA. And please that line they gave Vader ("Don't choke")? Corny. In originals he would have said nothing. I like seeing the tie in, but honestly I'm sitting here feeling a bit, "Meh." Whereas TFA left us wanting to go right back in and watch it again. We're going to take kids to Sing instead.

Now, is this going to be a trilogy too?

No...this is a one shot deal...

My reaction couldn't be any farther in the opposite. Rogue - not perfect - captures the spirit of Star Wars...last year looks so much worse In comparison. We'll see where it goes...but i watched it again this week and I got an empty story "phantom menace" type feeling from it. A lot depends on what they do in the next movie. They need more "edge" like R1 to create an emotional pull. They killed off a main character and I couldn't have cared less.

But now disney has a problem...as Carrie fisher went into cardiac arrest and it doesn't sound very good. An extended down period on a flight approach. That could change two movies completely...we'll see

To each there own but wow I was way more compelled to se this one a second time than TFA. This was a great movie.

And no this won't be a trilogy. It's a stand alone. The sequel to this already exists, it's called episode 4.

I agree. However they could go the CGI route.... they did it very well with Rogue One.

We agree...and I'm old...so to have me giddy and consciously thinking about this 10 days later is an amazing feet. I think R1 will continue to have more appeal long term...TFA is not poised to...we'll see.

And by the way...I've been falsely accused of being a "skeptic" in the past...so if that were true, would I be so easily be amused?
