I totally get your point, and of course it makes sense, but never underestimate an unexpected turn of events where you might want to use your points differently than originally anticipated. For us, it was some major work stuff that threw our entire vacation schedule off a few years ago. We own multiple resorts, all with the same use year, which was hugely advantageous when it came to rescheduling all of our plans. For us, points siloed in separate use years would have made that impossible.I'm very comfortable keeping RIV as it's own separate contract/UY. I think we just DVC differently. Everything we've purchased has a specific trip/purpose, so when we add on that won't change for us. I'm not sure we'll ever be in a place where we own enough points to start combining them for larger accommodations or longer trips. That's the great thing about the product, everyone can use it how it works best for them.
I also have several contracts with 1 that has a different UY…. when I called DVC about something else, the rep said I could transfer points from that contract to my other UY contracts. I think it was limited as far as transferring borrowed points, or something, but it’s worth checking into if you have multiple UY contracts.I totally get your point, and of course it makes sense, but never underestimate an unexpected turn of events where you might want to use your points differently than originally anticipated. Finally! You guys are killing me with the quick ROFR timelines, I'm on week 5 of waiting to hear from Disney.

Thanks! I can walk and chew gum at the same time, but I really grew to dislike having that second UY. Good for some, just not for me.Nice “upgrade”!!

Chose lower cost SSR points over “where I want to stay” for SAPs when I made this purchase. Lesson learned. BLT checks more boxes for my family, at least in the short term.
That makes me a bit nervous. I have a contract just submitted to ROFR, an Oct UY, and I will need to bank 2024 points by May 31. What if the points aren't in my account by then?It is taking forever to get a contract loaded. It closed nearly a month ago but still hasn't shown up on my account. I don't mean to load points, but simply for the contract to show up. Anyone else?
You can always ask the broker to have the seller bank them for you. That makes me a bit nervous. I have a contract just submitted to ROFR, an Oct UY, and I will need to bank 2024 points by May 31. What if the points aren't in my account by then?

Once you've closed, and are just waiting on DVC while nearing a banking deadline, my guess is they would be more receptive to getting your points loaded for that - I'd ask for a manager if you're within a couple days prior. Unless your Seller is International you sound like you have plenty of time. That makes me a bit nervous. I'm learning that right now... Especially when i have some transferred points, so it adds an extra layer of logistics. I sold an AKV (transferred 25 off before i sold it), then i just bought some transferred points, so now those 2 contracts/memberships can not transfer in or out again... so i have to get creative to make sure i use all the points, some how. (also not totally sure how different it would be if i only had 1 UY)This is the way.
Ah, see I thought that part hard to be sorted before we signed the contract. I'm glad I have some options! You can always ask the broker to have the seller bank them for you.
That was in my list of favorites. It was very tempting, just more than i needed, so it would turn into a renting or getting bigger rooms than needed situation.kmg148—$117-$18,265.00-138-BWV-Oct-0/24, 138/25, 138/26. sent 3/10/2025
Also, as the Seller, I sometimes ask Escrow to go ahead and get me the documents as soon as the 10 day recission period is over so I can get them Notarized and back to be checked over, no need to wait to do paperwork if the contract is not one that is currently in DVC's likely to ROFR resort/price ranges. Then the paperwork ready to go when the ROFR waiver and estoppel come thru. I think it would be okay to ask that as the Buyer too, since you are concerned about the banking deadline. Again, per current Closing Times you seem to be fine, but no need to have stress if it's just a matter of getting paperwork ready sooner. That makes me a bit nervous. Also, I had the sellers bank as a just in case, then got everything loaded pretty quickly and decided I wanted to use some of the points so I called member services and they unbanked them all for me since it was before the window. YMMV.Ah, see I thought that part hard to be sorted before we signed the contract. I'm glad I have some options!
It ended up fitting perfectly for us because it allows us to go different times of the year and for different lengths of time. Every other year we go with my parents so now we can treat them sometimes. I wasn’t sure if it was a good deal but it has the same use year as the points I’ll eventually get from them, so it seemed like the right choice! That was in my list of favorites. I remember it well, because of a song called "We Are 138".![]()
