***ROCKSTAR: Supernova*** (spoilers welcome)

Remember that last night's show was taped at 9:00am that morning - personally, I don't know how any of them can sing that early in the morning.

I love, love, love Cheap Trick and I thought Dilana BUTCHERED "I Want You to Want Me" -YUK, YUK, YUK!!!

They should of sent Dilana home before Storm.

For all you Lukas HATERS out there:

Lukas left home at 14 and lived/grew up on the streets of Toronto and from what I've read/heard he's from a really poor part of Toronto and has NOTHING to do with his parents.

Headspin (Lukas Rossi and Rise Electric)

All I want to say
is you're the sattellite in my life
You don't have to lie
You don't have to cry anymore

Lost inside your eyes
The vision never dies
Oh just take my hand
or float and never land

Then I hear you say
"Let's live for the moment this time"
Then you want to keep me forever
Why don't you just make up your mind

You make my head spin
You make my head spin
Why, why do you
You make my head spin
You make my head spin
Why, why

You love to build me up
just to tear me down
Wouldn't it be nice
if we found paradise someday

Then I hear you say
"Let's live for the moment this time"
Then you want to keep me forever
Why don't you just make up your mind

You make my head spin
You make my head spin
Why, why do you
You make my head spin
You make my head spin
Why, why

Did I hear you say
you wanna be alone
Or was it a mistake
How would we ever know
I can't hear you scream
You wanna be alone
I can't hear you scream at me
scream at me

I'm not perfect
I'm not perfect
No, no, no
I'm not perfect
I'm not perfect

You make my head spin
You make my head spin
Why, why do you
You make my head spin
You make my head spin

Did I ever mean something
Did I ever mean something to you
Did I ever mean something
Did I ever mean something to you

That hardly sounds like NOTHING. It sounds like a lonely sad child reaching out for what is naturally his. Sadder than sad.

I am not a Lukas hater, he's just not my favorite but I TOTALLY understand his appeal. He is very unique and I think his angst will appeal to lots of lost souls.

The show was odd. Ok yeah, i'm bummed and surprised that Storm got the boot before Dilana (and naturally I thought Lukas not only deserved to be in the bottom 3, but he should've been given the ax for that train wreck on both nights!).

Storm: A very good rendition of "Wish You Were Here". I know why she was crying...it was dedicated to hre Mom (which ONLY works for girls...are you listening Lukas?). Jason was crying because he knew they'd be sending her home and he probably really liked her. In any case, it made me a DH laugh so hard we nearly died! Jason...toughen up. I swear you're like the sensitive wuss of the group.

Dilana: Oh I just hated the song. I lige Cheap Trick (though her assertation that it was a punk song is weak). Cheap Trick is hardly/barely a "punk" band. I would call them edgey-pop. Man she dodged a bullet.

Lukas: What, the song didn't suck enough the first time?? What self-indulgent crap. he should've offered something different. I hated it more the second time, partly because it was a terrivle unintelligible mess, and partly because he thought it was SO great that he should do it again. Also, note to Lukas: ANY possible street cred you would've had with me was totally gone when you dedicated your song to your mommy. Not because it was a cheesy sappy "love ya" dedication (which it was not! he obviously harbors some resentment towards his mom)...but because you're a whiney brooding little punk. And cause you dedicated a song to your MOM dude! WEAK....

Toby: OH MAN! I just loved him dedicating his performance to Steve Irwin. The man is a national treasure to Australia, adn Toby's hometown pride really shines through. Yeah, it had a little cheese factor in it...but the song wasn't ABOUT Steve, the performance was FOR Steve. Another rousing success for Toby with an instantaneous fan favorite and stadium anthem. I bet SN can totally hear 50,000 people singing the chorus at their concerts....

I wonder whwre in the voting did Lukas and Dilana fall. Where they last, second to last or thrid to last? Good to know my two currewnt faves were one and two last night. Go Magni and Toby!

Brooke seemed to intimate that there would be voting next week. Will people be able to vote the finally?? I thought it was all SN's job now?

So it ok for a male to dedicate a song to a national figure but not his mother??? Or only a woman could dedicate a song to her mother???? A bit of a double standard here, imo.

I'm guessing that the reason he decided to do the song again was because SN had told him on the previous show that they really liked it. According to comments on this thread and on other boards, all those comments were edited out for the broadcast.

I still think that Lukas will win and Toby will front the house band.

YUP! It's a total double standard. For me, it is a HUGE turnoff (in every way) for a guy to admit he wrote a song about his Mommy. Whereas Toby dedicated a performance to Steve Irwin...he didn't write a song about how much he loved/hated or was sad to not have him anymore.

I also dislike Eminem for this reason.

FWIW I did also HATE Dilana dedicating "I'll be watching you" to her estranged mom. It just seemed to weepy, angsty...blech.

ETA: PLEASE understand that Lukas couldn't do/say/sing anything that would make me like him as a performer. It just ain't gonna happen. Oohh...it actually reminds me of how much a HATED NKOTB back in the early 90's. Everyone else thought they were so great, and I just wanted to barf everytime I saw/heard them.

Oh god I hope Lukas does not win.
He's just a bad copy of Billy Idol.
Been there!

But maybe SN deserves him.
I have not heard one good song yet out of them.
I still say this is going to be a fake "Take the money and run!" band.

And what was the song Toby sang?
The oh-oh oh-oh hook was - yes memorable.
But are they going for another Chumbawamba / Wang Chung band.

I personally don't see how they (SN) could use Magni's family as a viable reason to not choose him.

Not to mention that I KNOW Tommy Lee has a family (well, kids, I guess he is divorced still) and I'd be willing to bet the other two do as well.

*I* would think that they would want someone a bit more mature anyway. I thought from the beginning that they were MUCH too old to really be looking for someone who wants to get messed up every night and screw everything that moves. Then again, everytime I see Jason Newsted in those fingerless gloves I wonder if I am right. I know it is supposed to look 'rock-and-roll' but it really just makes me think 'Oh how sad, he is still reliving the glory days.' Of course people can rock into old age, but I think that usually they get a bit more mature with their clothes etc.....Not that they are really THAT old, but it is still a little creepy to imagine them still getting wasted and hooking up with groopies under the stage. :)

Now that Storm is gone (Thank goodness, although I did really like her original song last night) I'll be happy with any of the other four. I think that Dilana would be best for the band only because a woman singer would make them more interesting, but Toby or Magni (my personal favorite) would probably be better for every other reason. Lukas would make a great frontman if next Summer's show is "Rockstar - The Cure." He could do alright for Supernova, but I think that he is the weakest for what it seems that Supernova wants to be. Of course, as a die hard Rush fan, I have to route for Lukas because he once recorded with Alex Lifeson!

Here are some early spoilers from the performance episode that taped yesterday in L.A. HIghlight to read.

Toby –
Karma Police (Radiohead)
Throw It Away (original)

I wondered at first about Toby doing a low-key song to start, but since most of the other Rockers also varied their sets (Magni excluded), I guess it wasn’t such a bad thing after all. (It shows variety and versatility, yadda yadda yadda.) Toby also had Magni play guitar on TIA – and you gotta see the part where Magni holds the guitar for Toby to play. Anyway, Dave said Karma Police is his favorite Radiohead song and that Toby “delivered it great”. And we already know how much Dave loves Toby’s original. He thought the two songs made for a “killer set” – and compared the whole thing to just “kicking back and watching a great Rock Show.” Tommy told Toby “Nice job, Bro.” Gilby thought Toby got “a little lost in the melody” at the beginning of the Radiohead song, but when he went into his full voice, he sounded “great”. Jason was glad that Magni joined Toby on the song and that everyone was so comfortable at this stage of the competition. As a result, he felt that this was “some of the most energy we’ve had all summer.” He summed it up: “Great job, dude. It was awesome!”

Lukas –
Fix You (Coldplay)
Headspin (original) {acoustic}

I really liked Lukas on Fix You, but honestly didn’t care much for the acoustic version of his original. However, I am prepared to be in the minority, if the tongue bath he received from the judges is any indication. Dave begins by saying how proud he is to be part of a show like this. He thought Lukas did a “great job” – that the Coldplay song was “awesome” and that going acoustic with his original “showed versatility”. He ended by saying that he has wondered all season whether he could listen to Lukas sing for two hours, but now he knows the answer. Not only could he listen to him, he would actually buy a ticket to see him. Tommy once again was rendered speechless by Lukas: “Those 2 performances freaked me out – in a good way” was about all he could say. Gilby was ecstatic: “That was great, man! That was so good!” He thought Lukas sounded “beautiful” on Fix You, that his versatility is “amazing”, and that Lukas is “fearless”. Jason said it was “cool”, and pointed out that it was Lukas’ acoustic version of Headspin that got him into this competition in the first place.

Dilana –
Roxanne (The Police)
Supersoul (original)

We got to see the Reality Webisode before the show again today and part of the Drama was about whether Dilana would ruin Roxanne or not. Well, not only did she NOT ruin it, this may have been one of her most effective performances. She stripped down and re-tooled the song, and then let her voice do the rest. She sounded wonderful – and even when Toby, Lukas, and Magni joined her to sing, she kept everyone’s attention riveted on her. Then, despite using a cane through most of the show, she still managed to rock her original clear to the back of the studio. Dave asked her if she knew how much he loved her? Well, he said, multiply it by 1,000. The Police song was “killer” and the whole thing was “incredible – just incredible.” Tommy thought it was so cool that she had gone up into the audience. “You touched everybody,” he said – though he wished she had a cherry picker to ascend up to the balcony. “You are so beautiful to watch perform,’ he concluded. Gilby said it was “awesome” and “so great”. He noted how her voice was so recognizable, and felt they would be remembering it for a long time. Jason felt it was great, then got a little playful in his response. He thought that, next time, the guys should have matching outfits – and that Lukas could work on the choreography. He ended by saying that because everyone is so good, it is “so flippin’ hard” to figure out who fits best with them.

Magni –
Hush (Deep Purple)
When the Time Comes(original)

It was certainly a good night for Magni. First, he played guitar for Toby. Then he sang back-up for Dilana. Finally, he rocked the hell outta his closing set. The thing that really stands out when Magni is on stage is just how RIGHT he looks with the House Band. Sure, he may not get the SN gig, but I would love to see these guys tour together! Anyway, Dave (who’s word of the night was killer) said he did a “killer job” and that the Deep Purple song was “really exciting.” Tommy agreed that Hush was “awesome”, but then said he honestly doesn’t remember a thing about Magni’s original (unlike those of the other three). As the audience booed, Tommy challenged us to sing part of it. <crickets> (Guess he has a point…) Gilby started by telling Magni he’s had a great summer. Tonight, he “loved” the Deep Purple, and thought that Magni sang “great” and performed his original “well”. (He still thinks the original is missing a 7th – whatever that means.) Jason digs Magni’s original, saying it may not be as memorable as some, but that musically it is “very tough.”

ANOTHER REVIEW FROM SOMEONE AT THE SHOW:

On with the show:

The House Band decides to play a little warm up song for us before the cameras start rolling...but this time, instead of Paul singing, they announce a surprise vocalist....and it's none other than Suzie freakin' McNeil! She and OB:House, with NO PRACTICE, bust into Bohemian Rhapsody for us, and holy hot damn. Truly forgot what a powerhouse this girl is, vocally. The audience goes nuts for her. I saw cameras filming it, so maybe it'll end up on some DVD extra or something!

Okay, camera time:

Brooke informs us that the home audience has voted for one of our old rockers from this season to come back and sing one more tune, one more time...and the winner? The Dark Horse himself, Mr. Ryan Star. Yes, everyone's favorite cuddly serial murderer comes back (his mysterious open wound still covered with the "arm bandage") Perhaps he's Jack the Ripper, incapable of actually being killed, and the secret to his longevity lies beneath that mysterious bandage? What else can explain the reason I'm STILL seeing this dude? Oh, he's got the #1 song on itunes, you say? Maybe that's a more plausible reason. No matter. He rocks Back of My Car again, and even though I haven't heard that song since he got the boot, even I know the words! "It's a perfect time of night...for taking your clothes off..." Everyone loved this - the audience went mad afterwards!! Ryan fans, your boy did you proud!!

First up: Toby!
Karma Police - Radiohead
Throw it All Away - original, w/special guitarist...Magni!

Toby was pretty hot! He comes out in aviator shades and rocks Radiohead. He sounded amazing. There were a SEA of "EVS" signs (passed out by our very own rockbanders) and "RAND WAGON" signs, the entire place was humming with Toby love. For me, the Radiohead song was really good, and had high energy, but Toby didn't really take off for me until he sequed into his original - when MAGNI comes out to join him on stage. Holy freaking Moses!!!!!! These two were so god damn hot together. Magni is on guitar, hitting the cords hard, and at one point, SINKING TO HIS KNEES IN FRONT OF TOBY, offering up homeboy his guitar for Toby to play, while it was still strapped around Magni's neck. All. Kinds. of. Sexy!! Now THAT was worth paying money for - we all pogoed and sang "chemical dreaming...throwing it all away...uh oh uh oh uh oh..." Yep, its official, after hearing a song three times, you basically know all the words.

Judges: Dave - great set, just watched a rock show...but dude, when Magni dropped to his knees in front of you...you need to watch out for those camera angles! ;) T Lee - uh, yeah, I didn't know WHAT was going on there. But loved it! Gilby: thought toby lost it in the beginning of the Radiohead song, but loved it when he pulled out his full voice. Gilby echoed my sentiments, that he was disappointed to be hearing the songs AGAIN for the third time, but even so, thought Toby was GREAT! Jason: loved the comfortability Toby has on stage, and with his fellow rockers, and he's "almost erased" one of the Toby moves that he finds annoying, the "Kangorilla". Hm...don't know what that is, but whatever it is, it's almost gone. Good job Toby!!!

Next up...my boy Lukas...
Fix You - Coldplay
Headspin - original

In a taped package early in the show, Lukas told us that he was singing Fix You to his father - with whom he had a rough relationship. He hoped he could "fix it". I just can't count the ways in which Lukas makes my head spin, y'all. I love this dude. Lukas' set was pretty mellow compared to Toby's - Fix You starts out slow but then builds and builds and Lukas just lets it rip - vocally stunning. Visually captivating. And then there's his freakin' falsetto. Lukas fans, our boy really brings the emotion. Then for the third time...Headspin. Lukas is the only one of the rockers to change up his original, this time doing a stripped down version. Well, even I, who have heard/seen him sing it this way on youtube videos...got chills. I thought it was the most beautiful we've heard him. I could go on, but all I'd end up doing is typing one word over and over: ROCKSTAR!!

Judges: Dave confessed, he didn't know at first if he could listen to Lukas' voice for two hours...but after hearing so many facets of his voice...not only could he listen for two hours he'd buy tickets right now. T Lee can't even speak. He says in a hoarse voice - "you freak me out, that's all I can say...I'm freaked out..." Translation: T Lee is seriously in love, folks. He's verklempt and passes the mic to Gilby...who is drawing up the adoption papers right now to adopt Lukas practically! Lots of affection when he tells Lukas how amazed he is at still hearing new things in Lukas' voice. Called him "fearless, and that's what rock n roll is all about." Jason: that was the song, done just that way, that made Lukas stand out from 12,000 others he auditioned with, and now everybody gets to hear what got him there. YAY LUKAS!!!! Audience had a lot of Rossi Posse signs, but not as many as the EVS signs.

Next up: my girl Dilana!
Roxanne - The Police
Supersoul - original, with special backup singers....Magni, Lukas and Toby!!

Truth be told, I thought we could almost count our girl out after the last few weeks drama, calf injury, Psycho Killer rendition, etc etc...well. How can one person, with ONE SONG, erase all of that, and put herself BACK IN THE ****ING GAME?? Ask Dilana, because homechick simply nails Roxanne. From the first two notes, she will rock you back on your heels, stop your heart and make you a BELIEVER again. I loved loved loved this. The audience MELTS and then becomes hers. And I'm suddenly afraid for my boy Lukas. Dilana is back. On last chorus, her fellow rockers take the stage and something of an AI sing-along ensues - sweet, fun and cute! Her original...now that I've heard it several times...has a cool and memorable verse and she rocks her song hard. She sports a black cane, but after a bit, tosses it aside, and proceeds to come into the audience, go up into the bleachers, sing to EVERYONE, then sings right in Supernova's faces, one at a time, putting herself BACK in their minds and hearts. GO DILANA!!

Judges: Dave: blown away by Roxanne, and proceeding her original with a slow song made the original really pop. Tommy - you touched EVERYbody, beautiful! Wish we could have put you on a cherry-picker so you could sing to the balcony. "We love you!" Gilby: Great set, you have such an amazing recognizable voice, everyone who hears it will remember it for the rest of their lives." Jason: take care of that leg! Great job!

Last up: man of the year - MAGNI!
Hush - Deep Purple
Original song

I LOVE MAGNI!!!! He played guitar on Hush, and my GOD, he and the House Band need to drop EVERYTHING and tour right now. Forget the Supernova tour. They are so tight, and when they each pair off and trade guitar licks, *poof*! It's very masculine and hard - I am looking at MUSICIANS...perfect look and sound. Magni was awesome. He and Raphael share a mic and belt out the chorus, and again, *poof*! Hush is hard rockin' tune, as is his original, so Magni rocks us yet again - an dthe audience throws devil horns and pogos for him.

Judges: Well...yikes! Tommy says that he really dug the Deep Purple song...but he doesn't think Magni's original is memorable :( Dave concurs - he can remember words or chorus from Dilana, Lukas and Toby's originals...but not Magni's. T Lee got BOOED long and loud by studio audience. ALL give props to Magni's singing and playing on Hush. Jason gives Magni a shout out about a 5-hour jam session that they all had last night - he loved playing with Magni. Jason commends him for his amazing versatility - playing with Toby, singing with Dilana, playing guitar on his own song. He's impressed. But over all...SN was the most lukewarm for Magni.

So...that was the show! We were told that on the finale, the bottom two vote-getters are going to have a sing-off (I think - the applause was very loud when Brooke was explaining this) and one of them will be sent home. And then the final three will sing for the prize!

A sing-off? Well that will be different. ;) Thanks for the reviews. :)

dturner....thank God I put the brakes on! Can you put spoilers in white so that we'd have to highlight them to read? I like reading your posts, but I'm afraid to read any of what you wrote for fear of learning somthing about the show tomorrow. Dang it was a long post too...woulda been fun to read. It'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Oh thank goodness this is the post I first ran into. I'm off the thread now until this over. YIKES.

I'll change it but I thought spoilers were ok since the OP but spoilers welcome in the thread title. Sorry!!

Anyone watch the webisode? I was psyched to see MiG deliver the car to Toby. I had problems with part 2 of the webisode though, it would't play. I'm going to have to do some taping tonight because "Dancing with the stars" premieres tonight, love that show, not as much as Rockstar though. ;)

Yup, I saw it, it was sad to see the ROCKERS leave the mansion........**sniff, sniff**

If anyone here has Verizon and doesn't mind small spoilers, you can check out the songs that they do tonight on your Cell Phone using the Verizon "Get it Now" RingTones thing. Just look under 'Featured' and the 'Rockstar Supernova'. Sounds like it is going to be one heck of a show!

Well itis out of our hands now isn't it? Tonight they crown the new lead singer for Supernova. My views on the show last night:

Toby: He can sing, he can perform adn he will totally get the band chicks! What more could Supernova want? I liked both songs, but the first one seemed disjointed melodically. DH says the original version isn't quite that jumbled, but as Toby would say...EVS! As for his original tune...I was sort of bummer to hear the same thing again but I do love the song. WhenToby wrote EVS on the back of Magni's head with a sharpie DH and I both were like "OH NO HE DIDN'T...well, yes he did!!!" That was outstanding. Just the kind of stage antics that a band like SN needs too!

Lukas: I gotta admit, I didn't hate "Fix You" from him. I hated the performance (his mannerisims and watching him) but I didn't HATE the vocal. If it were on the radio I probably wouldn't change the channel. I would just ignore the song and make a phone call. As for Headspin...I hated it...again.

Dilana: Can you say redemption. Stellar performances, and a great move getting the guys to sing backup (though I could actually hear Lukas' growl, and it ws ruining the back). I hope this song is enough to keep her under consideration. Her original was way better this time.

Magni: I'll watch you all day and night babe. I like his original and I liked Hush. I still want him to win, but.......

After watching the judges reactions and responses I have to admit it is looking quite likely that Lukas will be the winner. I don't get it, and I certainly won't buy anything they put out wiht him, but there are plenty of people who will. The only way I think Lukas won't get picked is if they have somebody else in mind who they have been "less forgiving" of because they don't want to seem like they've already made up their minds.

Either way, tonights show will be a hoot, and I will hold out hope that ANYBODY but Lukas wins.

I agree I told DH that I could deal with anyone winning BUT Lucas. He does nothing for me. I hate his mannerism, he always looks like he is having a seizure or something. Toby is probably my favorite, but I really like Magni and Dilana, too. Of course this all means that Lukas probably will win and I will be upset I wasted my time. ;)

Which singer fits Supernova the best though? I don't care for Lucas either but he might just fit their style the best,

Personally, I'm not all that impressed with Supernova themselves so far. We'll see.

I agree, ANYONE, even the booted off rockers but Lukas... even someone from last year! :scared:

My personal fave has always been Dilana, she brings back Janis Joplin to me. My second is Toby, who I think would be awesome with the group, and I really like Magni when he sings slow songs. Wow!

We'll see. Last year's choice... :furious: ... totally ticked me off. Hopefully I'll be happier with this years'! :thumbsup2

I liked the show last night, I thought they all did well, but I hope Toby wins. I think Supernova pays attention to who the top vote getters are, so I think Toby has a chance. I can't wait to see who gets the boot first. ;)

I liked Toby and Dilana's originals last night but I thought their covers were terrible. With Lucas I liked the cover but not his original. Magni did a good job on both.

I still think Lucas will win but Magni, not Toby will be the top vote-getter from last night.

What a great show last night !!! i thought they all did a great job, my two favorites are Toby and Dilana to win, I think that SN likes them the best. My personal opinion is that Toby would be the best fit for them ...... not to mention the best a drawing in the girls for TLee :rotfl:

Can't WAIT until tonight, I am vowing to NOT read the spoiler today.... :rolleyes1 .. well I am going ot try and not read it !!
