Road ID?

Hey there!

Does anyone use a Road ID when they are running/walking/biking/swimming? I'm considering asking my fiance for one for my upcoming birthday, and am just wondering what everyone's feelings on them are. If you use one, do you have the "original" or "interactive" ID? I like the idea of the interactive, but wonder if it would take a long time for someone to look up the information over the phone or internet. If you have the original, what information do you have on your tag? Also, what version do you use (wrist, ankle, neck, shoe, etc.)?

I'm thinking it would be a good idea as I'm spending so much time out on the trails now, but I'm wondering if the Road ID brand is the best choice. Currently, I NEVER bring my ID with me when I run. I do, however, almost always run with my dog, who has a tag with our phone number on it.... but I guess, I don't know that he wouldn't flee or even possibly attack someone while trying to protect me if I was hit by a car or something.... so maybe not the best security plan... :rotfl:

Thanks for any suggestions!

Sarah

I do not have road id, but I do use a MedicTag USB medic alert tag designed for emergency medic information and alert. I wear it on the top of my helmet.
All my info is stored on this and the paramedics put it stright into there notebooks and get the info they need.
When I'm not training I wear a gold braclet, but I need to gete a fabric one for the swimming pool.....lots of medical problems!!!

I've had one for years. A shoe tag Road ID with name, emergency phone#, Blood type, and an inspirational saying. I use it for running and when I'm riding my bike.

BUT..they say if you got hit by a car, your shoes will most likely come off...so I've been thinking of getting a wrist or ankle ID. I currently carry my driver license in a pocket in my shorts.

I have the wrist original RoadID as that's where most medics/police look first for med ID tags. It has my name, DH name and number, DS name and number plus necessary allergy info. Wear it when run and bike. Could swim with it but I swim in a pool at our health club so....

Scott and I both have Road ID ankle bracelets, Scott wears his when ever he runs, I only wear mine when I am running away from home. We have the traditional, name, emergency contact numbers, etc. I have no medical problems, so mine is just for identification.

I have the original Road ID bracelet. I put my name, address and a couple emergency contact names/numbers. I use mine everytime I run because I'm usually by myself.

I think I have a coupon code from one of my recent races at home. I'll see if I can find it for you tonight :)

Yep.

What she said.

But I don't have a DH, so i put my DW and parents...

I wear the dog-tag style. Name, emergency contact #'s blood type, organ donor, NKA (no known allergies). I thought about doing the interactive but when this was discussed a year or so ago a paramedic mentioned that they would not likely take the time to phone in or log on to get the info.

I'd suggest "NKDA" instead of "NKA", as its more specific and its standard hospital shorthand.

"No Known Drug Allergies" instead of "No Known Allergies"

Yes, I have one. (purple wrist Road ID) I have the original version. It was a gift for my birthday this year. I wear it on my long runs and bike rides. I should get in the habit of wearing it everytime I go out for a run/bike though. I put my phone#, husbands cell #, blood type and no known allergies on mine.

Yes, I have one - both styles but mostly wear the old one. I have the purple wrist strap and the black one. It's nice too because they do have reflective material in them. I have a bad allergy to Penicillin and Ceclor and since that is usually the first antibiotic used, I need peeps to know not to give it to me. I wear it most the time I am out. You just never know when you might just trip and fall and pass out. Could even be a mile from home, so I wear it all the time. I did have the shoe one, but stopped after someone mentioned the fact that your shoe could fall off and that paramedics usually look at your wrist first.

So the consensus is that the interactive one is not worth it? I kind of like the idea of having one that can be changed periodically because I move so much (and not in the "across town" sense but more in the "hey, new continent!" way) and don't want to have to order a new one all the time. But yeah, it was my fear that the paramedics wouldn't use the number or webpage to look me up. I don't have any allergies or medical conditions so could remain relatively anonymous until I get to the hospital, but if it's not worth it, it's not worth it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

It's actually cheaper to get a new ID if things change and you don't have a lot of medical problems to consider. I wear the dog-tag style...ALL THE TIME. I don't have to think about it. But if you get the other kind (which I have also!:goodvibes) All you have to do is order the replacement tag which is interchangeable on the bracelet, anklet, shoe ID, pouch ID, etc. So, if you are unsure which you want, you can get a standard one like the bracelet and then go to accessories and get the ankle strap or any of the others for less than $5 each!

As a side note, I also wear mine whenver I'm out on the motorcycle. If there's an accident my purse is/was in the trunk.

Last year I had a bicycle accident that required an ambulance ride. I was conscious the entire time but the paramedics and ER people noticed and commented on the Road ID and what a great idea it was.

I have an Original Road ID. I wear it the majority of the time including just going to work. I've had a number of people ask what are you wearing that for? It's a good conversation starter as well as it may save your life! :thumbsup2

I'm ordering my DW one for her Birthday as she just started running.

I have the ankle one. Wear it every time I run or ride. Name, emergency contact #'s, organ donor, NKDA (no known allergies). Didn't have room for a saying as I have too many phone numbers on it.

Enjoy,
Duane

I was so glad to see this post. As a wife of a long distance runner/bicyclist, I am a huge fan of road ID. My husband has the dog tags, the wrist bracelet and the shoe tag. I ask him to have at least one on him while he's out since he never sticks to the track and would rather run on long open roads. Also, since DH has a penniclin allergy, I find it to be extra comfort if something would ever happen and I can't be there to be his voice.

Road ID is a great thing and I think anyone who runs, bikes, hikes, or kayaks, etc. should have one.

Once I started my long runs, I felt it was necessary to have a Road ID. I got the show tag. I put it one once I got it and have not taken it off.

I'm Big Fan of RoadId. I don't run without mine.

Long story short, my younger daughter was lost in a shopping outlet near WDW. The worker was about to call me on my cell phone, having found her wandering around their kiosk.

The worker asked for the website where I ordered it, so she could get them for her children.

If anyone is interested, I'm a RoadId affiliate, meaning I score a buck for everyone who I refer, and orders via my link. Coupon codes can also be used via this link.

Thanks in advance if you're ordering!

On a side note, I also wear a Medic Alert ID on my wrist for my allergies to Bee and Wasp stings, and certain anti-biotics that don't agree with me. So I'm double covered.
