I was "nudged" a few years back by a friend and his wife to get one; and shortly after, 1 each for my wife and son. We all have the original wrist ID.
As a family, it's part of our routine going to ride together: helmet, glasses, Road ID...you get the picture.
For me as an athlete, whether I am MTB, Road cycling, Cyclocross, Long distance running, Triathlon...etc. it is on. It has simply become part of my routine. I've only done one MTB race with a chip on the ankle, but a few running and all triathlon events with the chip on the ankle. Having another strap on the ankle would bother me; so that is why I personally have the wrist model. I have my own champion chip and use that when I can.
When I distance run I put it on 1st, then put a wristband over it. I just have to make sure before I pass out, that I move my wristband so my RoadID can be seen. Well, in principle anyway. Your results might be different.
