Is preferred better? Better location? Prettier inside? Not by busy, noisy walking path?
What makes it 25% more expensive? (For July 26, Standard is 20 points, preferred is 25 points.)

Inside they are the same. Only difference is view from balcony. Standard will over look parking lot and Epcot. Preferred will overlook everything else like water, pool etc. One night I would stick with standard.

Standard is just fine. I haven't stayed preferred as I typically don't like to pay for a view especially where the price difference is as great as it is at Riviera.

We've done both at Riviera. The standard view is a gamble -- you can have mostly parking lot view or you can have a pretty incredible view of Spaceship Earth. The first time we stayed, we lucked out and we could see Spaceship Earth and hear the water from the fountains - we spent a lot of time on the balcony and wondered why we'd ever pay for preferred. The second time we were in a room that just overlooked parking. It wasn't miserable, but I didn't spend much time out there since there wasn't a lot to see. Most recently, we did a 1BR preferred view in January because it was only $50/night more and we were curious if it was worth it. It was really beautiful -- we were up on a high floor and could see the Skyliner, pools and everything. We spent a lot of time on the balcony. That being said, I would not pay 25% more for it... I'd gamble with the Standard view.
