Rise and fall of Subscription & Streaming

I haven't had cable since I moved out of my parents house in 2006. During that time people thought you were nuts if you didn't have cable tv.

We pay for 1 streaming bundle which is Disney/Hulu/ESPN+. That just had a price hike but we do use it and it's all we have so will hold onto it for now.

And now local/national channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc) are suing to have Streaming platforms be classified as Cable TV, hence more carriage charges and higher Streaming costs for impacted providers.

Fortunately for my set-up. we use Sling Blue which doesn't re-transmit local/national affiliates, We use a HD Antenna to get local stations (50+) for free.

Actually, it's just local owners. Currently the Networks negotiate carriage fees with streamers, even for stations they don't own. Local channel owners want the right to negotiate the carriage fees for their channels like they currently do for cable and satellite. Personally, I think they have a point.

And the majority of house holds across the country would be able to utilize an antenna to get their locals. Many don't want/choose not to.

Oh, and a pet peeve of mine, there's no such thing as an "HD" Antenna. ;) An antenna built in the 1950s at the start of television broadcasting will still work today.

location location location. Our house is rural and tucked against the hillside and there is not a clear signal, or at least not back then from what I remember from the antenna days. we got three channels, well technically two and a half.... channels 3 (CBS), 22 (NBC) and then the public broadcasting 57 would only come in when it rained. The little box on the TV that you turned to turn the antenna LOL and the noise it made, there was a tiny sweet spot where the signal would hit it and then the rest was crap. We did not get cable until 1990.

That's why I didn't say EVERYONE could use an antenna. ;) MOST can however.

HOAs can't prevent you from putting up one outside either (before anyone suggests that as a reason).
