I'm posting from our hammock, early morning, still in pjs. This will be our 4th day onsite. It's a fort at home day.

Most of the family still sleeping from a late night at the MK. But Ds9 plays tether ball across from the pop up and exchanges family stats and impressions of the MK mountains with neighbor boys.

Dd17 is fishing again, this time over the bridge to the Meadow Trading Post. Using Frank's hot dogs, which have been better than anything in her tackle box. She wonders about using minnows. Says even this early, little lizards have staked out thier warm spot on the bridge way. A mallard family are also fishing.

The "Doooonng", off-to-never-land sound of the boat launch just sounded. The bustop parents, quietly chatting w/children to 'drink thier juice and finish your bagel' just filed onto the yellow route to settlement bus. The sweeper truck is a loop or two over. 2 squirrels check out the pine ones underneath me, a grackle bird hops down our table. An egret flies to the canal path.

The sun grows warmer, it will be the hottest day today in our 2 weeks here. Towels and suits need to come down off the line. Dds11 and13 wanted me to wake them so they could check out the trading post pin board, which only comes out at 7 and 12. Another bus goes by, taking an older couple and thier Maltese- no, they leave pup with friend- to pick up a modem kit at the outpost.

Tenting Neighbor Dad rubs a white WDW oval on the rear window of their vehicle. They must be having a good time. Now the kids are singing "zippity do dah between bits of "can you do this?" A jet brrrhs overhead, and I am glad we are not on it.

Now they are chopping up tree limbs, one loop over, fallen from the thunderstorms earlier this week. No more rain until sat. Or sun. Mid 80's, cloudless. Amazing thought: Did you know the CS are cleaned-besides the daytime visits- at 1 in the morning? And a cast member said the COmfort stations are now left locked, needing cards to open, all day, 90 percent of the time now. My kids are collecting cast member autographs. They have become thier favorite "characters".

Ahhhh....the smell of somebody else's pancakes reminds me what I, also, am supposed to be doing. :  I think we will skip'em and have instant oatmeal this morning, and biscuits left over from our second Giddy up and Go meal, and go swim instead.

*drawn out contented sigh* :lovestruc

Thanks for sharing the magic with us back at home. :thumbsup2

OH and hope you continue to have a WONDERFUL trip!

You sound like an author.... Super jealous and can't wait for my July 4th trip to the fort, where I will hopefully be I'm the 1500 loop

We've tried them, hot dogs work better. You name we've brought it. Shiners, crickets, grubs. Love the TR.

We were supposed to be checking in on Sat with the new Trailer but have decided not to so we will be at POP. We do plan on stopping over to the fort to check it out so we can look around and see what we like when we do bring it down. I guess I will just have to live through everyone's live reports :sad2::sad2::sad2: Hope you have a great time!!

What a great report! You must be a writer---so very descriptive.

Wish I was there....hopefully will be soon.

Maxine is right. Your words paint a picture of relaxation. And two whole weeks at the Fort? Good for you! :cool1:

We wouldn't mind another update (or two or three)

Enjoy!

I'll have to remember to print this out and bring it with me in Aug...Your writing makes me want to stay back and relax vs. our typical running non-stop. Maybe if I take time to read it each morning I will remember to slow down and enjoy the relaxation side of vacationing :D Great writing and thanks for sharing!!!

I shared your post with my DF who only knows he's been to wdw once, but has no memory of it because he was 2. We are going next summer and your words brought tears to my eyes. I cannot wait to share something I love so much with him and his son (who has never been) while also experiencing new things together, like Fort Wilderness!

Thank you for posting, it was beautiful!

What a nice picture you just painted! Sounds so lovely and relaxing, the Fort is on our bucket list. :goodvibes

BTW six kiddos?? My hats off to your family!:thumbsup2

That sounds wonderful. Can't wait until we are there in a few months.
I'm glad we've got one "down day" scheduled, it sounds lovely just to relax and take it in.

On a side note: Now, I need to bring our hammock! :thumbsup2

We love the Fort, we have been going for over 20 yrs renting a cabin, this summer we will be renting a trailer and having it brought in, looking forward to "camping" at the fort!:)

Maxine, I love my hammock! It is an authentic woven Mexican hammock made by a group of cottage home weavers. Shipping was quick. We have had it four years, it has held up well and is easy to repair when needed, just with a knot.
Look at Rada hammocks on Youtube, and Amazon.

They also have thier own website. I looked at other styles and kinds, and LOVE love this one. And love the thought of another Mom and girls making it for me, and marvel at thier use of an ancient technology and skill lost to me.

I plan on buying another soon, to retain my rights and keep the peace. Back home, I have a long, wide, big veranda-porch and keep ours up all summer. It is my away place I have to stake out and defend, because it is a favorite spot for all.
It is natural fine twine woven cotton, delicate, but with strength, with stretch and flexibility. It has never flipped on us. It is SO, SO comfortable. Sometimes it is better on my back to sleep in it than my own bed.
It comes in lots of sizes, and colors- we have natural ivory cotton- I think ours is actually to big. It's the 'matrimonial' :) size. Next time, I will get forest green- double size. That's the one that will travel.

It :cool1:has been worth the cost ten times over. I bought it for myself for mother's day, after seeing a friends who brought thiers back from a Mexican cruise.
We just unhook it, twist it up, wash and hang dry, or take it camping and hang it with ratchet straps with hooks on the end, the kind of straps you use to attatch things to the top of a vehicle. They do not hurt the trees.

I can't belive it. Just before responding to Maxine's hammock post, I answered all your kind comments and added a little more about things going on today. It was a long post. perhaps too long. I saw it posted....and its gone! Are there trolls? Probably just me. I will try again later. It is tricky to snag the time, even here... Oh sad!

That's excactly what I was hoping to do! and bottle up some sunshine for me to remember what it was like, when we, too, are back.

. Have fun for the rest of us.
We are! And we will send you some. What kind of fun do you want, and we will have it for you...mmm, I can think of all kinds of fun you could have, better let you come and pick some up for yourself! We will leave it at the Outpost desk with your name on it!

..... and can't wait for my July 4th trip to the fort, where I will hopefully be I'm the 1500 loop
I thought I would find 1500, with all my fam along, too squashed. I thought before, that while some have said that site 1503 is fabulous for it's convienience, I thought (before) that no way would I like to be so close to the busstop, the road, the thouroghfare. I have learned all over again that Disney camping is oposite every typical thing I usually do/think for camping. Our site is perfect for us.
I had hoped for 1513 or 1511. But 1503 is a very large site, spacewise, with nice wide tree views in 2 directions, many hours of shade, and wonderful for kids. They are always checking out the tetherball across the way and assembling a new group of friends as families come and go. They love thier 'hop over to the pool or the movie' independence, and it's easy to check on them.
I hope you, too, are happy where you will be!

:thumbsup2

We've tried them, hot dogs work better. You name we've brought it. Shiners, crickets, grubs. Love the TR.
Thanks! I didn't realize I was doing a TR yet, I just wanted to describe a feeling and the surroundings. And I haven't grabbed a chance to fish, yet. DD's have caught 7, mostly medium size bream or sunfish. She's trying to angle for the bass, though, which are much less agressive than our backhome bass, more tricky, timid and tentative.

Right now, my oldest dd is teaching an eager kid who has been following her all day. "How'dja do that? Ho'dja do it?" "where's those fish?" She showed him what happens when she tosses a hotdog piece into a shady spot."Man, I been waiting for fish like that my whole life!"

He came running up to her while she was fishing by the swimming pool, to show her his foraged fishing get-up- a knotty stick, a length of knotted fishing line, a bent piece of wire. She let him borrow her pole for an hour and taught him to use it. She had just gone to check up on him and came back, instead, for two more poles, one for his brother.

We were supposed to be checking in on Sat with the new Trailer but have decided not to so we will be at POP. We do plan on stopping over to the fort to check it out so we can look around and see what we like when we do bring it down. :sad2::sad2::sad2: Hope you have a great time!!
No sad, Rland, that's turning all good. We were just over at POP for a movie, it was an interesting place with a tasty food court and a beautiful walk at twilight over the bridge to Art of Animation, where our boys posed with every friend of Mater's.

We had to choose between one week at POP in Jan with a free dining pin (that is a great deal for us, with our large group of teens) or 2 weeks camping at the fort, but packing most lunches and cooking most suppers. So it was interesting to see where we might have been, too.

Thanks! You know it all!

thanks for sharing! any pictures?

Oh I WISH! Have taken tons, both for me, and with the thought of, what would/did I want to see when I was reading the board at home? But the closest I got was a trial post on the pet thread...and the photo links don't work, from my ipad, (what I am using) ....they just show a link instead of a photo.

I promise a separate TR with photos about a week after we get home...May 10-15ish.

Wish I was there....hopefully will be soon.
I wish you were here, it would be amazing to have lots of us there at the same time, just because! I haven't seen any green dis signs yet. But even though some of what I wrote, I think is corny, and I want to edit it, I won't, because I want to see that "posted at 9:00 am" footer tag someday, and remember I spent 2 whole hours there that morning, and exactly what that felt like, as good as I could get it at the time!

Maxine is right. Your words paint a picture of relaxation. And two whole weeks at the Fort? Good for you! :cool1:

Actually, it's only nine days at the fort, with four days, after the fort, at a Windsor Hill condo. Its a great condo, with a wonderful owner, good for cooking lots of inhome meals, saving money and visiting the parks. We are taking family votes afterwards about which works best for all fam members.

But it's already apparent where we are going to be returning. The Fort is much more than a prettily themed Parks pitstop to refuel and sleep before heading out. Our happiest, most peaceful and harmonious days have been our down days at the Fort, and we did not plan enough of them! My kids love it here! My Ds16 loved MK, but actually wanted to go back to the singalong and movie with Chip and Dale.
There was a great community feeling that first night there, after a short and violent bonding sort of thunderstorm, and my kids love singing and dancing. The first night we arrived, that singalong after the rain just sealed the feeel of the Fort in my kids hearts, I think.
Ds16 requested we go there than back each night to the parks! We've done some of both. I knew my younger kids would love it, but Who'd a thought. A highschool kid and Peter Pan, Tarzan, Singing Cowboys and all!

I'll have to remember to print this out and bring it with me in Aug...Your writing makes me want to stay back and relax vs. our typical running non-stop.
I am a real Park commando type A person, I discovered, and need some of my own medicine!
At Club Cool, the foreign soda tasting stop in Epcot, my kids were on eachother about who took more cups than someone else, and who had less or too much, ect. I was short tempered and repeated yet again, my frequent mantra of the trip:
"Now, is this what the happiest family, in the happiest place on earth would act like?!?" :headache: A CM, giving me a break and trying to spread some magic, came over and said she grew up in a big family too, and understood what it could be like.
"But honey, you got it backwards. Look on our sign when you drive in. Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. You aren't there, so you got time to get there still. Disney World is just where dreams come true..." She was right. They have. And I think she forgave us our part in contributing to the very sticky floor...

... We are going next summer and your words brought tears to my eyes. I cannot wait to share something I love so much with him and his son (who has never been) while also experiencing new things together, like Fort Wilderness!
That should be great for you, cosmicdaisy! This is a great place for Dads and boys, particularly! Today I was trying to post this same post for the first time, and felt I needed to take a break to film my DH and boys playing basketball in loop 1800. At thier request I had checked out a ball and tennis rackets/balls at the bike barn that morning. I should have asked for 2 balls. The sound of ball bouncing against rim and back board brought out boys and Dads from many campers on this Sat morning. On my way back to my loop, I trailed a Dad and his son on thier first bikeride without training wheels on a public thouroghfare.

That Dad was in his element, king of his game having great bonding time Dad style, with his kid. Momma saw the curly little kid wipeout on the sidewalk, she was driving alongside them to the marina. Dad shooed her away, reassuring her that son was fine and would be ok. He popped him back up, brushed him off, and said" Now that's what it takes, you're on your way to being a real expert. One spill down, a few more to go."
The curly headed little boy then proceeded wobbily down the sidewalk, weaving between walkers, swaying with a little fear as a fast biking couple passed him with a picnic basket, steering right into the ditch, then full on into a trash can. "You can do it son, you're doing it!".

What a nice picture you just painted! Sounds so lovely and relaxing, the Fort is on our bucket list. :goodvibes

When I read your comment after our crazy long/hot/exasperating/miscommunicating, waiting/hot/waiting/exausted/lets do it again tomorrow day at Epcot, you made me laugh. It was just what i needed, and healing. thankyou for the shake of the head and the aknowlegement of the impossiblility of it all.
Lots of Kids. I chose it, i love it...and it drives me crazy too. But I always wanted a big family. I think It's the most important work I'll ever do. But doing it well at Disney is more like an elementary school fieldtrip through the Smithsonian, where you spend as much time organizing lines and lunches as hitting the highlights like a driveby billboard! ARGH. But I learned to change my expectations and know Im planting seeds. They can really discover more on their own, later. You reminded me that I'm crazy, so just take it in stride!:lmao:

.... Now, I need to bring our hammock! :thumbsup2
Yes! but unless it's freestanding, or you have a tree filled site, and your downday is sunny but cool enough, ...you may not use it. I don't want to promote overpacking! But I love mine!

Now, off to the movie. Its Wreck it Ralph, a favorite of several of my kids. And I will cut out a bit early for the electric water pageant and the fireworks over the marina. Saving you all a seat!

Not sure what happened, but, I have hit the preview post and thought I hit submit reply and lost my post. :confused3
