Riding with your hands up on Space Mountain

Same here, I never tried putting up my arms and won't tried it.:lmao: I always control myself if ever we are in rides but sometimes can't. :rotfl:

I rode in the very front the last time we were there and I ducked the entire ride. I'm only 5' 3" but I really thought I was gonna have my head chopped off!! Totally irrational, I know.

I ride with my hands up on just about all rides I go on, including Space Mountain, I am 5'6. The main reason for the "keep hands and arms inside the vehicle" warning on rides is because they do not want people to reach down towards the track.

I'll do it next time, which may be in 2010, but I will.

I am only 5'3" though so putting my hands straight up in the air would only make it to about 6'5"....... someone else should try I think.

I think thats part of the fun. Even someone thats 5'3" ducks because they think theyre gonna hit something even though theres probably 3-4 feet of space

I'm a larger busted lady (and polite too - think of all the things I could have said :)) and I find space mountain very unconfortable.

I tend to ride with my arms accross my chest. Its either that or 2 black eyes!

My white knuckled hands are hanging on for dear life on every coaster....and sometimes my eyes are closed, too! :rotfl:

Are you kidding!?!?! I'm afraid I'll get decapitated on SM (I'm only 5'4") or that my ponytail will get stuck in the gears or something. But, I still ride every couple of trips. ;)DH won't go near it. He rode once and was really freaked out. He shares my decapitation fears! :cutie: Now he waits in the gift shop for me.

I have to admit that I never have understood why anyone puts their hands up. What does it do that just sitting there doesn't do? If you aren't holding onto anything it shouldn't have any different result, hands up or hands down. Is it a show of courage? If it is, I don't get it.:confused3

Oh well, I'm old and never cared much for roller coasters anyway.

I ALWAYS raise my hands on space mountain. They wouldn't make a ride where the risk of anyone hitting their hands could happen. They know people raise their hands. I hold them as high as I can with confidence :)

Keep my hands up? I can't even keep my head up!:sad2:

Of course I know Disney wouldn't make a ride that could decapitate me, but at 6 feet tall it's just to close for comfort

Having your hands up is just fun! And you also raise up out of the seat on hills. Only one coaster did I chicken out in raising my hands up - Millenium Force at Cedar Point. It was just too scary (huge hill).

While rationally I know that my hands won't get chopped off riding Space Mountain, I still keep my hands in & duck several times. :rolleyes1

I ALWAYS keep my hands inside the rocket on SpaMo. I'm not a risk taker, nor will I ever be. The only coaster(s) I hold my hands up on are BTMR, Barnstormer, and Woody Woodpecker at Universal. That's it.

no, *I*'m old!!

I get the same sensation on ToT - like a PP stated - you are lifted up off your seat - its just increases the adryneline - fear factor in a very very safe environment! When I was little I had a great aunt that loved to "top" hills (air) and when you would come down - "tickle tummy" feeling - so roller coasters "tickle tummies" its all good!

If you get the fear factor while holding on - that's the beauty of roller coaster - thrill rides! Everyone gets their thrills!!

I'm 6'04" and I have long arms. I whacked my fingertips on some support for Space Mountain about 10-20 seconds into the coaster ride. Never again with my hands and arms fully extended! Ouch!
