Rides that should be retired....

My thoughts on what to replace or improve:

MK: Stich - don't care for the movie, character, or attraction; Swiss Family Treehouse - at least update it to reflect Tarzan; Country Bear Jamboree - needs better sound system (like what they did for Small World) and new music.

Epcot El Rio de Tiempo - keep the ride, PLEASE update it!!; Malestrom - just can't compete with Splash Mtn. Every time we go on we regret it - just not exciting...; Imagination ride - the original was the best - find a way to bring it back!

Studios Great Movie Ride - remove some of the older scenes and add some more recent films - do the same with the movie clips at the end (although I heard that this was recently done).

AK The entire Dino Section (with the exception of Dinosaur) - just doesn't feel Disney to me (my kids do like Primeval Whirl, though).

I've enjoyed this post! Like others, I find it interesting to see what some people don't care for, and what others love! That's the great thing about WDW - no matter your tastes, there is something for everyone!!

We will wait for the Jungle Cruise (FP, actually) EVERY time we go to MK with the HOPES of getting a very funny, creative "stand-up comedy" CM (and there are some who are spectacular!)

We have spent many a voyage completely filled with laughter at the unique "spin" the best JC captains put on the tired old "official" script.

The JC is one of the FEW rides where an individual CM captain CAN BE a bit creative and "make a difference" in the success of the entire cruise.

I have even waited until the rest of the boat had exited and privately told the CM how much we enjoyed that particular cruise.

I have also stepped back and waited time and again to thank the CM for enteraining us through JC, Safari ride, GM ride, etc. It makes them feel good to know how much you appreciate their efforts. If they go above and beyond (and not just phone in the performance), we should all commend them so they know their efforts are not wasted. I think that it the least we can do. We would applaud a performance in a play, we should applaud the CM who makes us feel good.

"What a fun thread" I have thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's responses and am so glad that no one flamed anyone else. Very interesting reading!

I was *SO* happy to see someone else say they want the original FIGMENT ride back! We were in Disney in 2004 after an 8 year absence and I was bummed to see a new ride. I was open minded, at first, but then realized that they didn't make it better. They changed it to where it's not as fun now.

Lisa, looks like your a "newbie" too. Welcome! I agree this is a fun thread and I was one of the ones who wants the original Figment back. This one is not as bad as the second one (which thankfully didn't last long). But saying that, it misses the "magic" of the old ride. The smell the old ride had (it was kind of soapy) and the Figments all around. It was a wonderful ride.

The original Imagination ride - does that bring back memories!! After redoing it twice though, I doubt that they'd ever bring the original back. I heard that all the props had been sold on ebay

They did the Tarzan thing at DL. But I think they need to keep a tip of the hat to some of their older, classic movies, and SFR is a great movie.

I understand the desire not to sit through some of the older things, but this ride is supposed to celebrate the legacy of cinema. The older movies are what got us where we are. The provide technological advances and legendary stories, and should never be forgotten. Especially since Hollywood has gotten so pathetically unoriginal.

Kids love dinoraurs. It may not feel too "Disney" to a lot of adults, but the kids love it.

I love the safari ride, but does anyone else think maybe they should do away with the whole fake baby elephant part? I understand they want to promote conservation, but right after you see real elepahnts, they ride past the obviously fake one in the truck. Why not talk about the real ones that they have added to their herd, I would think that would be more interesting.

How could you not love the muppets?! I enjoy all the jokes in the queue as much as the movie itself.

I was just wondering what rides everyone thought should be done away with or, to put it nicer, retired.

I'm just curious to hear peoples thoughts. Of course this is only personal opinion so no need to flame anyone else if your fav ride shows up on someone else's hit list.

Personally I think The Great Movie Ride could stand to be replaced and I didn't think Stitch's Great Escape was anything special. Neither are terrible, but both spots could house something better I think.

I'd love to see a Little Mermaid ride. Think Winnie the Pooh style but with Ariel and all the other characters. Lots of special water effects and bubbles. Fun music playing, etc. My 5 yr old twin girls would have me in that line over and over and over......

So what do you think has done it's time and is ready to be let go?

I totally agree with you!!! I hate the fact that it seems like Ariel is always being disregarded just because she is a mermaid!! I think that we absoloutely need a Little Mermaid ride. As for the rides I don't like, the Great movie ride is not so great. I also think that there are too many "Dumbo" like rides in WDW. Aladin and the Dinos need to go!!!

Definitely It's A Small World.........it may be a small world we live in but it would be a better world without this repetitive annoying ride..............

I'm tough on Tomorrowland. My list is:
Stitch
The Timekeeper (I have never liked this attraction. Mostly because I don't like Robin Williams.)
The Tomorrowland Speedway (There has got to be a better way to use this space.)
Also:
Ariel's Grotto. Not so much because of what is but because of what it replaced. (Still bitter.)

What did it replace???

Ariel's Grotto and the new Pooh playground in Fantasyland are in the location formerly occupied by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was my very favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom.

I miss 20,000 Leagus Under the Sea, too. They have never made adequate use of that space and I can't understand why they got rid of such a popular attraction. They could have spruced it up a bit -- not elimate it. Big WDW faux pas.

I totally agree! We have to ride it every time we go, and it's family tradition to like this ride - my grandfather loved it, my parents love it, we (DH and I) love it, and now DD2 loves it!

No problem! Like I noted before - this is a great discussion about the past, current, and future of WDW and everyone has some unique and interesting ideas about what they would change/replace - I'm enjoying reading everyone's opinions!

MGM-Sounds scarey and the back lot tour (love the explosion and the flood but that's it).
Epcot-Living Seas (although I haven't seen Nemo yet) and Honey I Shrunk the Kids movie.

I saw some interesting info (really of the rumor variety) that relates to this thread - Mouseplanet (in their weekly WDW Update) noted that for the 25th anniversary of Epcot they will be updating the movies in both France and Canada, as well as entirely "reimagineering" El Rio de Tiempo in Mexico.

Maybe someone from WDW was reading this thread?

I agree about the queue. My fault with it isn't the muppets, themselves. It's the lack of 3D technology compared to the other 3D movies. They really need to update completely. There are many long portions of the movie (that I recall) that don't have any affects at all. They just need to help it along.
