Hello,
I have been looking a lot at the Disneyland app. I often see rides say "temporarily closed", I have never noticed this at WDW. Why is this so commom?? Does this mean just for a couple minutes should we still get in line or ask a cast member how long it will be?

Thanks for your help to this first time visitor to DL.

Yes the Temporary Closed on the App usually means it is down for a short while to re-set the ride, and fix what ever has happened. There will always be a Cast member at the line to direct you into the line or away from the line. If it is a short closure, you can wait, and if it is a longer closure, they shut down the line.

Some rides take a while to get re-started when they have an emergency shut down.

When it is closed longer term it will state "Closed for Refurbishment".

Well when a ride is temporarily closed most of the time there is a breakdown, but sometimes they can only be broken down for an hour or two or the whole day. The best thing to do is ask a cast member near by and they will have all the current updates about the ride. I wouldn't trust apps as much because it is hard for those to be updated as frequently but a cast member would be best. The lines will be closed if a ride is "temporarily closed" so you can't get into the lines. Have a wonderful trip and a magical day!:tinker:

Rides will go 101 for a number of reasons. Most are guest related. An example, last year my daughters were riding Matterhorn. During the ride, I was watching the loading of the ride. A family gets to the front of the line, the grouper sends them to their gates, then as their bobsled arrives, they start arguing who is going to ride where. I could hear the loader asking them to get in and get seatbelts on. They take too long, and the ride cascades and e-stops. It took 40 mins to get my younger daughter off. It was probably down 50 mins. Same happens on Big Thunder, Space, and Screamin'. Racers can go down for a similar cascade or for items falling off a guest and landing in the slot. Indy usually just goes down because it is old.

There were so many temporary closures this past Tuesday that when we were in line for the Jungle Cruise at about 8:00 at night, a guy on the speaker said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have an announcement to make. (Pause) The World Famous Jungle Cruise is operating!"

We were cracking up. The whole day seemed like a comedy of errors. But still fun.

It totally happens at WDW too. When there's lightning in the area you'll see all the outdoor rides down for example.

Yes, some guest-related, for sure. We were in line for Screamin' last week when it was shut down because a girl had lost her cell phone on the ride. Don't know how long it took to resolve that one. We just moved on somewhere else.

My husband lost his phone on that ride too, fortunately it didn't cause a shut down. I know selfie sticks caused some ride shut downs too.

We've seen backpacks, purses, hats, cameras, and so many other items lost on Screamin'... Don't know why people don't secure them better.

My mother hates Screamin'. The first time we visited DCA in 2002 she was wearing a fanny pack. We had stood on the pier, looked over the rails, and watched the take-off. Yet she wasn't prepared for it when we went on the ride and she was messing with her fanny pack as the take-off happened. She clung to that pack the entire time afraid she was going to lose it. She will not ride Screamin again.

They need to add the free timed ride lockers so people have a secure place to put their stuff.
