Revival of the angry thread!

Well, I woke up this morning, walked in the kitchen and found water on the floor under my dishwasher!!!!! :scared1:

So tonite, in addition to finishing packing for our Disney trip, we get to rip out the dishwasher, and make sure the floor underneath it isn't ruined!!!!

Then of course, buy a new dishwasher, then try to schedule that being delivered next week. (and maybe have the floor repaired)

We also have to buy bunches of paper plates and silverware, cause I'm not leaving my 21 yo son to wash dishes in the sink while we're gone!!!

Yeah..like that's ever gonna happen :rolleyes1

Sorry about the diswasher though...are you sure you'll need a new one..maybe it can be fixed?:confused3...How old is it?

It's 12 years old. We learned on the clotheswasher two years ago, that anything over ten years old, it's not worth paying the repairman the $75 to tell us we need a new one!! So we're just going to replace it!!

Yep..nothing and we pay nearly a thousand dollars a month for their policy. Sad commentary on health care huh? Oh..and not to forget the $50.00 copay to the doctor.(specialist are more :headache:) Which.. of course she forgot to bring a check with her. They won't even see you without your referral and the copay up front. So..I paid that and took her to lunch afterward. I came home broke..and a little discouraged.
On the upside... it did get her out of the house. :thumbsup2 I even had my younger son come along. She gets a kick out of him. He's pretty good with her. For being 18... he's patient..and doesn't seem to mind repeating himself when she doesn't hear him. It was cute..she gave him her winning lottery scratch offs...for him to "put gas in your car". He's lookin' at me..like should I take this?:confused3
We went to lunch afterwards at IHOP. My sister and her kids met us there. Mom seemed to enjoy getting out and spending some time with the grandkids. We joked..that if any of us wins the Mega Millions lottery this week..we are getting a big van and rounding up all the family members and friends we know that need either hearing aides or eye glasses (another thing insurance doesn't pay for) and really going to town.
Imagine that... you think you're being extravagent by getting hearing aides and eyeglasses. I tell ya,..you don't know whether you should laugh or cry over that one. :rolleyes1
Is what it is I guess. Crazy. Healthcare these days. I don't know what to make of it any more. Oh..and Medicare which is her secondary..doesn't pay a dime toward the hearing aide either.
Oh well....better play the lotto again this week!

Healthcare has gotten out of control, and so has insurance, but....... don't think what our administration is proposing will be any better.

12 years..yeah,... makes sense to replace it.

Remember, the old days when you were young and broke, and your parents gave your their 20 yo washer, dryer, and fridge, and you used it for another 5 -10 years!!!

Those days are LONG gone!!!

No I don't suppose it would be. :headache: Only what we've got now isn't so great either. I thought we had great health care..until we really started needing it to provide services like physical thearpy for my dad. Which they do..but it's on a limited basis..per injury, and only if there is an attainable goal. Take someone like my dad..who is paralyzed on one entire side of his body. He's not going to get that feeling back. That ship has sailed. Yet..he needs to have PT on a regular basis to keep what strength he has on the other side..and to stretch him that sort of thing. NOPE..it's used it all up. :confused3 There are restrictions in these policies...that are in the fine print..that the brokers don't even know/tell you about. You have no idea until something catastrophic happens, and you find out the coverage..isn't as great as you thought. The doctors are very kind ...they do their best to help him get as much thearpy as ins. will pay for. Mostly we pay out of pocket for it. Without it his muscles with atrophy?(sorry spelling). I'd say most people I know are a heartbeat away from being in the same situation. We have been lucky..if you can call it that. So far, we have been able to provide the care he needs through his own financial resources..but I tell you..it's going fast. It's not if..but when it's gonna be gone. I have friends who parents don't have that to fall back on..and they do without...and it's very..very sad. My dad was only 56 when he had his stroke 12 years ago....not retired..not elderly. Hell.. my husband turned 56 two days ago. If this happened to us now..we'd be done.
Don't know what the answer is. :confused3 WHY is it so expensive though..and for the expense WHY aren't we getting the coverage we need?..I'm not asking for something for nothing. :headache:

So sorry this is happening to the people around you Phyllis. My kids are PTs and they tell stories like this. I'm not sure what the solution is either, but it's not what we've got now (insurance almost doubles the cost of healthcare one way or another) and it's probably not what congress is proposing - but there has to be a solution somewhere.........

too tired to post.. going to take a nap!! being a girl scout leader is draining me and the meetings have not even started!

All I know is that the cost of health care is killing small business' like ours..and then insult to injury..it's turns out to be inadequate. :sad2:
I have to say my son is NYPD..has GREAT coverage through the city ..he picks a private insurance plan based on what he wants taken out of his check...and all his perscriptions are coverd through the PBA. He has $5.00 co-pays for his doctor visits..and $5.00 perscriptions. Civil service appears to be the way to go. :thumbsup2
Now..if I can just turn back the hands of time?...:scratchin
I think that might be easier than fixing health care...

Phyllis....YOU NEED A !!!

I honestly believe there is no solution to healthcare. It's always going to be the "have's", the "have not's", and the welfare recipient and/or illegal immigrants who gets everything the "have not's" work for, and yet do not receive. :guilty:

Did that make sense? :confused3

Dh had GREAT coverage also through baltimore city.. he also picks private insurance plan and it gets taken out of his check our co pays are low as well. We noticed the difference on how the docters treated us when we switched from a hmo plan to private!

Well, the two girls were coming home this weekend for two different showers - the first time in three years we would have all been together (the 3 kids and us and a grandson) BUT, the baby has the flu and the youngest daughter is coming down with it, so she's not coming home now because she doesn't want o drive for five+ hours being sick and with a sick baby. I'm not sure when we'll all get together again, if ever - it'll probably be for a funeral - mine most likely :confused3

:drinking1  Which would help more a beer or a hug? Oh heck, have them both. :flower3:

I'm sorry to hear this Al. I know how much you would have enjoyed having the family together.
Hope the baby and your daughter get to feeling better real soon.

Makes perfect sense to me, but maybe because I agree with you 100%! I don't like it or agree with it (the health care situation), but that's the way it is.:sad2: I really don't see it ever improving. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist...or am I a realist?

My mom needs a hearing aide. Not covered by insurance. Nothing..zero...zip. Nothing from Medicare either. Man these things are expensive :headache:

Sorry you are going through this and even having to pay over and above to have decent care. I wish I could fix the problem for you.:flower3:

Living 9 hours away from my family, I know what a disapointment it is when original plans to get together fall through for whatever reason. Sorry this is happening Al...what a let down.:sad1: I hope your daughter and grandson get well soon and you enjoy your weekend with the rest of your family.

You know..I don't mind paying. Alright..I don't love it..but you know what I mean.:rolleyes1 We pay our fair share and then some. It's just that when you pay through the nose..and then find out when something catastrophic or long term happens..it's really not enough. It's like a kick in the stomach. Kind of makes you sick and feel like WTH is going on?..
Yet....when I was in the ER with Bob prior to his surgery...I can not tell you how many families came in with sick babies with ear aches or sore throats. It was NOT an emergency room. It was where everyone who doesn't have health care goes to be treated instead of taking the kids to the pediatricians office. Now..I don't want to see any child suffer. Only..when is enough....enough? :confused3 None of these folks were English speaking, and it isn't a stretch to figure they were here illegally as well. :sad2:
Crazy..and I'm no expert to be sure..but maybe we could try enforcing our laws regarding immigration? I would think that would have a trickle down effect on health care as well.
I must be getting old..because I remember the days when you just paid your doctor. You know..out of your pocket. I think a visit to the pediatrician was $45.00 and $65.00 if the kid needed a strep culture. There wasn't any insurance company to deal with. Only needed a major medical policy..if you were to need hospital care. Probably dated myself there..but things sure have changed in the last 20-25 years. Okay..off the soap box. :sad2:

One of the major bills right now specifically EXCLUDES illegal aliens from health care coverage. The problem with these people and welfare recipients is that they clog up emergency care facilities because that's where they go for health care - they cannot be refused treatment. This is a huge cost and it would be better to cover them someway else.

Insurance costs are driven to a large extent by unnecessary testing done as a CYA by doctors because of lawsuits - tort reform would go a long way to reduce costs - also reduction of administration costs would clear up a lot of $ - congress won't address that because the health care industry and lawyers lobby heavily - most congressmen are lawyers anyway. Ask doctors about their admin costs to fill out all the paperwork and ridiculous rules they have to live by. None of the real issues will be addressed. NONE AT ALL.
