Just got back from a quick surprise Bday trip for DD to WDW and thought Id share some thoughts on where and what we ate.
Crystal Palace - breakfast
We had an ADR before park opening, so we got a nice picture on Main Street without all of the crowds in the picture. Breakfast was good, seemed like better quality food than we remember from years past (will be a recurring theme).
Cape May - dinner
DD10 requested this for her Bday, as its her favorite restaurant (mine too). The food was delicious as always. They even have decent pizza its not the same as the rest of Disney I swear. The ribs were nice and meaty, DD took down a bunch of crab legs and mussels. And the desserts are still top notch. This was our first visit since theyve added the lava cakes. I had 2 one was hot and the center poured out liquid-y and the 2nd wasnt as hot and remained more goo-like. They were really good, but I think the oreo bon-bons might still be my favorite (had 2 of those too).
50s Prime Time - lunch
About the same as past years. I always get the meat load, DW got the pot roast (lots of tender meat). DD started getting some adult meals this trip she had the fish sandwich and really like it. Also had a PB&J shake for an appetizer. I think Ive grown to like my healthy PB shakes better at home though (cup of blueberries, cup of mixed berries, scoop of whey vanilla protein powder, scoop of casein vanilla protein powder, 2 TB natural PB). Our server was nice didnt really get into the antics.
1900 Park Fare - dinner
DD wanted to go here, DW and I would be fine dropping it. I think DW and I have had enough of the chaotic-ness, and DD isnt really into characters any more. Plus, the food quality has seemed to go down hill over the past few years (weve gone every year since about 1999). But it was DDs Bday trip. As some know, the famous Chef TJ has moved to the GF and we saw him Sunday night (a couple of kids next to us had special dietary needs). I dont really care for the menu I think the server described it as Asian/Spanish/and something else inspired. Its just not my food style (Im more plain jane). Even though the menu is the same, DW thought she recognized an increase in the quality of the food. I eat more desserts than real food here, and I think the desserts were a little better than I remembered too. So maybe Chef TJ is improving things there.
Les Chefs lunch
This was our first visit, and we really enjoyed it. DD had a pen pal from France last year and was all into French things. So I made an ADR here and hoped she was still into France. We had a nice server (young guy) that convinced DD and DW into trying escargot. And they loved it. I couldnt bring myself to try it, but I did dip my bread in the leftover pesto sauce and it was delicious. We also split amongst us the ham & cheese sandwich and the baked mac & cheese. We were lukewarm on these dishes they were okay, but not something to go back for (we like the ham & cheese croissant from the French bakery better). One of the meals was with the 3 course deal and we had French onion soup (really good) and crème brulee (liked it, didnt love it DW probably wouldnt have it again). DD wants to go back in Oct and have the French onion soup and snails for her meal. We didnt see Remy though we were there from 12:10 until shortly after 1:00. No biggie though as I dont think DD even knew about it and I didnt think about it until the next day.
Ohana dinner
Another staple for us another of DDs faves. And again, we thought the quality of the food was better than the past couple of years. DW always seems to get overdone steak, but this time we got med rare to a couple pieces that were too rare for us to eat. The pork was still overdone, and the chicken probably was too (though not as much as the pork). But overall the food quality seemed good. DD had 6 or 7 potstickers (she loves them). Our server also brought us what I think was a 4 person portion of the bread pudding. DD doesnt eat it, but DW and I managed to put away the entire thing. We were feeling a little sickly afterwards though.
Contempo Café breakfast
DD and I shared a quick breakfast from here a couple of mornings. We had the breakfast burrito (didnt care for) and the scrambled egg, ham, & cheese sandwich which we liked (had it 2 days).
Starring Rolls snack
We tried the butterfinger cupcake last year, and thought it was okay. After reading the positive comments on the choc PB cupcake, thought were try that one. It was good the PB ganache-ish filling was very rich. I had the first part of it refrigerated, and the 2nd part at room temp better at room temp.
We also had popcorn and ice cream for lunch a couple of days.
Oh, we also bought TIW for this trip since we got APs (were going back for a week in Oct). I think were already even on the $75 price with this trip, so anything on the Oct trip is true savings.
Thanks for reading.
