I'm planning WAY ahead for our trip next summer, but am enjoynig thinking about it.

On our last trip, we did a couple of character meals, which my kids don't seem to be that "into" anymore. What I did appreciate (going at a peak time and in heat) was the chance to have a guarantee of a break from the crowds and the heat. Since we'll be in August this time, and very unused to the heat (being from CA), I do want to plan some special meals. Basically one PS per day. My husband thought I'd overplanned our last trip, but when we went to our first PS (at Crystal Palace) and we were overwhelmed by the crowds and needed a break and they weren't even seating people unless they had PS's, he thought I was WONDERFUL!

Any suggestions? I am thinking about a late lunch kind of thing, or an early dinner (get to the park early, take a swim break and return about 4 and eat)

I would want places in the parks, or easily accessable from the parks (like riding the monorail)

Thanks.

Some places that come to mind are Kona Cafe for dinner or lunch at the Poly and the Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch. In the parks we like Mama Melrose for lunch at MGM. At Epcot Chefs de France is great for lunch and we used to always have lunch at San Angel. Really any of the full service restaurants there are great for a break. At MK we always have lunch at the castle which is not a character meal at lunch or dinner and serves better food at those meals too! The Plaza is a delightful little restaurant with sandwichs, salad and ice cream for lunch or dinner. Liberty Tree Tavern is good for lunch and is not a character meal then.

A few more suggestions that kids that age might like:
Rainforest cafe (both AK and DD)
Sci-fi drive in (MGM)
Prime time cafe (MGM)
Cindy's for lunch (MK)
Ohanna's- but open for dinner only (Polly)

Happy eating!!

May I suggest:

Kona Cafe-lunch or dinner(they have wonderful kid friendly desserts)

Mama Melrose-MGM just good food and fun atmosphere

Teppanyaki in Japan

O'hana(dinner) good food and games for the kids

Boma-dinner buffet-great choices and the ANIMALS!

Sci-Fi-fun movies and car -food OK

ESPN Club-just fun atmsophere and darnn good burgers!

These are my DS choices consistently (he is 12 and has been 10X)

Connears

On our first trip my daughter was 9 and her cousin was 7. One of their favorite things of the whole trip was eating at 50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM.

Other places they have enjoyed on other trips:

Breakfast buffet at Cape May Cafe
Beaches and Cream
ESPN Club
Casey's Corner
Pinocchio's Haus
Fish and Chips window in Epcot

Have fun!:D

The only place my 9 year old insists on eating at each trip is Yakitori House. He also likes Le Cellier (for the Chocolate "Moose") and Rose and Crown (for the Cottage Pie).

At MK, we always eat at either LTT or Pecos Bill's. We had lunch in the castle on the last trip and that was kinda cool.

He likes the both Sci Fi and Hollywood and Vine at MGM. Not so big on the Brown Derby.

At AK, we always eat at either Tusker House or Flame Tree Barbecue.

My kids DD16 and DS10 love

Sci-Fi
ESPN Club
Garden Grille
Beaches & Cream

We had heard bad reviews about Sci-Fi, so hadn't eaten there, but decided to give it a try. We had a blast and really enjoyed the food(it was only burgers). Now, when I ask the kids where to make PS, they both choose Sci-Fi first!:D

My kids must eat at Sci-Fi - it's dark, cool and quiet, since everyone is fixated on the movie clips.

My kids love Le Cellier and request it every trip. They also like Prime Time and Sci Fi

My kids' favorite sit-down restaurant is Teppanyaki in the Japan pavilion. They also like most of the buffets, Prime Time Cafe, Le Cellier, Marrakesh and Whispering Canyon at WL. Counter service favorites include Pecos Bill's at MK and Pizza Planet at MGM and the Kringla Bakerie in Norway for snacks.
