What are the restaurant choices at HRH Hotel for a family? Looking for breakfast options and also lunch/dinner. Do they have any buffet options for breakfast...we like to have a big breakfast and then so something real light for lunch......any ideas? Thanks!!!

Well, there's a small self-service mart where they also sell ice cream, gourmet coffee, but they also sell muffins/bagels and juices in the mornings.

There's the Kitchen, which we've always enjoyed for dinner. It's probably what I would consider a "moderate" AFA price. DH & I have tried the breakfast buffet there now several times and will not do it again. It's expensive, if I recall (in the 15 to $20 range per person), and every time we've done it, the food is cold and very bland. Dinners there, shall we say, ROCK! Scooby has always stopped by our table, too :)

I've been told by many of my Orlando clients (attorneys) that the Palm is one of the best restaurants in Orlando. We haven't eaten there, tho. From what I remember looking at the menu, it's expensive if that matters to you.

I think there's also "light fare" at the pool -- sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit and the like. While I haven't personally tried anything there, I've seen some dishes go by while at the pool, and they look very nice.

Personally, we have some big-time favs at CityWalk (10 minute walk away) for our dinner meals, as well as our favs in the parks for lunch, so we don't spend a whole lot of time eating at the hotel.

Have fun!

We've had similar experiences at The Kitchen breakfast buffet. We've been twice & didn't really care for it, but it has been awhile. (Actually, I'm not very fond of buffets, so I'm probably not the best judge. ) Hopefully, someone who has tried it recently will chime in. Our last stay was at RPR, where we never tried the breakfast buffet. Recently, I've read that their buffet is much better & even cheaper than at The Kitchen. Maybe, you can find out more, if you're interested. For a good, big, reasonably priced breakfast try Pastamore @ CW. The food is good & the portions are huge. Dine outside, while watching the buzz of people heading to the parks. :hyper:

We've eaten lunch & dinner at The Kitchen several times. Most of our visits have been for lunch, but we've been for dinner a couple times. They do have good food, but obviously we prefer it for lunch. There's just so many great dinner choices on property. I like the fettuccine alfredo & my guys like their sandwiches & fries. We also like the crab cakes, & my DH had ribs once that he said were pretty good. The biggest problem we've had here was in the service, but this has gotten us several free desserts for the long wait. :teeth: We've never made a big deal about it. The managers just seem to know it can be a problem & automatically offer. :) You can also order from the bar & take the food to your room. We've always had a great experience doing this. They have some of the friendliest bartenders I've encountered.

When is your trip? We haven't tried The Palm Restaurant yet, but will be going this time. We'll be there at the end of July. It looks like we'll be there around the same time as you though. If either of us tries it 1st, we'll have to post a review for the other. :) Enjoy your visit!

We stayed at the RPH last week. We tried the breakfast buffet once and would not do it again. The food was mediocre at best and was over $60 for 2 adults and 3 children. We ate at HRH a lot and really enjoyed it. We ate at The Kitchen one night for dinner and had great food and great service.
We ate poolside (The Beachclub) several times and really loved the food and the service was pretty good too. Everything we tried was really good! We tried restaurants at all three hotels including PBH, but we liked HRH the best even though we stayed at RPH.

I like lunch or dinner at The Kitchen too. Breakfast (they have buffet and off menu) has never been all that even though we try it each time. Next trip we wont be having breakfast here. The selections at Emack & Bolio’s Marketplace are great for something light and fast. I would look into breakfast at RPR, Pastamore or either bakery at the parks. There is also a starbucks at HRH. I love having lunch or dinner from the beachclub. They have the best chicken sandwiches and burgers. Rent a cabana and order pool service, and have a couple cabo wabos. :drinking1

We've been to The Palm at HRH as well as the one in NYC and Atlantic City. I didnt have a very good meal at the one in HRH. Its busy and loud like many steak houses. There are so many other places to eat at Universal, CW and the other hotels that we havent been back.

Room service is 24 hours and its always been very good but comes with a hefty service charge.

Wow...I don't mean to get too far off topic, but after reading the other replies, it seems maybe HRH/RPR can improve upon their breakfasts some? Everyone generally seems to enjoy their dinners and lunches. Such an important meal taking in to account how much energy is expended at the parks, no?

I agree with all the other posters' suggestions on a breakfast. I tried the Pastamore (and do the same as a previous poster...sit outside and people watch) and was very impressed considering how inexpensive it was. Awesome breakfast potatoes! I've also enjoyed both parks' bakeries (an egg sandwich comes to mind at IOA...yum!), as well as Emack & Bolio's.

Don't get me wrong; I truly love staying on site, and HRH is my all-time favorite hotel, but breakfast I just dread there. I figured DH & I were just picky, lol. I generally hit a Publix on the way or after check in for some breakfast bars or fruit.

The Palm is one of my favorite places. We ate there twice in March and we've eaten at some of the others. They are all the same.

We were a little worried about taking our kids there because our kids "ick" at everything, but it worked out great. My DD and I shared my filet and DS ordered chicken fingers off of the kids' menu. We ordered hash brown potatoes and creamed spinach for the table and we all walked away full and satisfied. The total, with one cocktail per adult, was about $140 for the 4 of us. We spent more at Tschoup Chop but came away equally as pleased.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to trying it. :teeth: DH & I will probably share an entree too. I prefer appetizers & dessert. ;) Our DS(14) has always possessed an adult palate, & will try anything. I figure bread, appetizer, 2 entrees (no sharing for DS), 2 or 3 sides, & 3 desserts & we'll leave there waddling. :p

We didn't care for TC at all, but love Emeril's! We'll be dining there again in July. It looks like we need to add TC to our list in the future & give it another try.

I hope you like it as much as we do! It is loud... like a good steakhouse should be and the caricatures on the walls are fun to look at. You should have plenty to eat with your plan and leave very full.

When we were trying to decide if we were going to try Universal or not, my DH was concerned about where we'd eat. When I told him that The Palm was there, he was convinced that we should go. We are definitely carnivores in our house.

I wish I had known that Patamore had breakfast...it sounds like the place to be for breakfast!
I guess the breakfasts overall need to be improved upon, because we also did the character breakfast at Confisco's in IOA one morning. Definately not worth $80 for 2 adults and 3 kids. Spiderman was the highlight, but waited an hour for Dr. Seuss to show up and never did. The food was just ok and definately not the place to be if you don't do carbs. We saw Spiderman several times after that in the park, so if you can catch the characters then, it is a better alternative. We love breakfast, just weren't wowed anywhere. We ended up going to the grocery store (Goodings) to get cereal and milk for the rest of the mornings. We truly then enjoyed and appreciated our lunches!
