Resort Surprise?

My boyfriend and I have been to WDW several times in the past few years, mostly staying at the Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge. But of course, we've always dreamed about staying at the Grand Floridian.

We decided to book our next trip for the end of Sept/beginning of Oct, and discussed staying at WL again. However, unbeknownst to my boyfriend, I took the plunge and booked the GF!! He still thinks we are staying at WL, and I'd like to wait as long as possible to reveal the surprise -- ideally just before boarding the Magical Express.

So, I need the wisdom of the boards... I know the resort will be on the package paperwork Disney mails, but I can easily handle that. What I'm not so sure about is what is shown on the Magical Express luggage tags and magicband package. The last time we used the Magical Express I think the tag just said something about "magic kingdom resort area." If that's still the case, that would be fine. Does the magicband package indicate the resort anywhere?

Thanks in advance for any info or advice; if it's too difficult to keep the secret all the way to the bus that's fine, I just want to be prepared for when the spoiling will happen!

Hi .... Our magic bands are in transit for our trip that is 3 1/2 weeks away. But we did just get our DME luggage Tags Wednesday and it did show our resort on them.

While I don't have any useful info for you (never used magical express) I was smiling ear to ear when I was reading your delightfully devious plot to surprise you boyfriend. Really awesome way to surprise you're significant other!

I thought they said the name of the resort and had a two letter code on it. I'm not sure if the magic kingdom resorts share codes.

My luggage tags say the resort too (it actually says "Contemporary Bay Lake" because we're stating at BLT).

Maybe spring it on him as you're leaving for the airport? I'm pretty your when you line up waiting for ME at MCO you line up by resort also (they're grouped together, but still), so he might figure to our then also.

Or maybe set up the surprise WITH the luggage tags? Like, as you're packing and loading your luggage in the car, say "hey, our luggage tags look different, check it out!" And see wha he says

Will your boyfriend look that closely at the luggage tags? You could just tell him that you will take care of placing them on the bags. You could just tell him that the tags are in a safe place and you'll get them out once you are packed. After they are on the bags, would he look at them again or just load the luggage at the airport?

If he does look at the tags, you could be all dismayed and say, "shoot, we'll have to straighten this out at Magical Express!" or "I'll call Disney and get new ones" and then do the above.

If all that doesn't work, have a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator and say "happy Disney trip!"

Keep him off the My Disney Experience app so he doesn't see your resort in the list, unless of course you booked it with your account and email address and he doesn't know the reservation number to link it. As I see it, the tags are likely the least of your worries as the emails, snail mail, and apps/website would possibly give it away (unless he doesn't care to view that stuff). I would not say a word until he notices (IF he notices)! Good luck and have fun! Great surprise!

This past Jan we surprised my lil sister with staying at a resort. During winter my grandparents rent a house so we usually stay there. But since she had never stayed at a resort we booked the first weekend at CBR and didn't tell her until we were off the plane and heading to magical express. She thought we were looking for where my grandma was parked but we got her. We stopped to "call" to find her but instead my mom took out the magicbands!

I'm not worried about the app or email because I am the obsessive planner, and he just let's me do my thing there. All of the email comes to my account, and he doesn't even have the MDE app. I don't think he'll care to read the snail mail that closely either, but it sounds like the luggage tags will definitely spoil the surprise if he reads them. I'll plan on keeping them tucked away until we leave for the airport, and just see if he notices.

Now the hardest part will be not spilling the beans!!!
